GDC09: Takahashi says Noby Noby Boy was developed on 360

Speaking at GDC, Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi revealed that the PSN title Noby Noby Boy was developed on the Xbox 360. As to why it was then released exclusively on the PSN, Takahashi said that he dislikes seeing so many people staring down at handheld games on the subway. He joked, "Maybe it's not such a good thing if a game sells a lot of copies. So we put it on the PS3 as a download only title so it wouldn't sell as many." On a more serious note, Takahashi said that he likes that the analogue sticks on the PS3 controller are aligned horizontally, as opposed to the asymmetrical setup on the Xbox 360 controller. He's just insane, he created Katamari and Noby Noby Boy, so it's completely reasonable to believe he'd create a game on one console and only release it on another.

I agree with the analog placement. Games like Katamari aren't suited for 360. But why not just release it on both platforms to make a better profit?

Due to XNA (whatever the game dev SDK is called) being a free development kit, he likely used that to make the game. But since he originally wanted it to be on Sony anyway, just showed it to them to prove that he had a workable game in development. Then they kindly handed him a copy of Phyre Engine to port and finish it up.

If the framework is already their, why didn't he just release it on both consoles???

So, he started development on 360, then halfway realized that the sticks are asymmetrical? BS. Also, Noby Noby Boy uses Six Axis controls, Yet he conveniently forgets to address the lack of it on the xbox. BS all round.

I can understand why he doesn't want it to sell well. This whole gen has been obsessed with sales. Many fanboys fail to realize sale=/=quality. I guess he only wants people that is only willing to take a chance to appreciate or try to understand the insanity to play it. What better than PSN. I mean, PSN got Flower, Flow, Eden, etc. Games that are different, unique and misunderstood by many.
