I've never liked RPG's. I played FFVII because it was hyped and a tech achievement for the PS1. I played FFX for exactly the same reason. Didn't finish either one. I hate turn based systems.

Then I played Fable. And then I played Mass Effect. Both examples of the direction that RPG should be heading toward - more organic, more seamless, more worldly. Just because we're playing games doesn't mean they should feel like games.

Having said that, I love the visual style of LO (especially the White Rabbit ad) and I've thought about picking it up several times, but at this point, it would feel like I'm moving backwards through game evolution. And I know I wouldn't finish it.

Yes, I don't think you will like Lost Odyssey if you don't like JRPGs in general. It's very traditional and difficult at times as well. It's a game for fans of the traditional turn based RPGs of old in my opinion.

Best RPG so far this gen is still Lost Odyssey, i love this game.

I was also addicted in Too Human. The coop was so FUKING fun. too bad the game was so fast over. I got a feeling like in Diablo.. killing monsters to get better items, thats also the system in world of warcraft^^

The idea in Too Human was really good, great weapons (elite, legendary and so on) but it took to short to play the story. After about 60 hours played i had 900g 3 chars on max lvl and 1 char with best equip.

The real only exclusives on 360 are RROD, E74 and disk scratching and actually yeah, those failures are underrated.

I bought Lost Odyssey a few months ago actually, only because it was at an insanely low price & I like RPGs (I didn't have a 360 when it originally came out). I gotta say I have been impressed by it so far. Great story, nice battle system, pretty graphics, and the characters are well developed. Definitely one of my favorite 360 games.

I have yet to play it, but honestly the game looked to be fun from when I first saw it. Even to this day that is pretty much the only reason (as well as maybe a few other JRPGs and titles) that I would get a 360, yet before doing that I think it's more important to get an HDTV. From the gist of the comments it seems like it was a widely popular game, even remember a few commercials. Yet I don't know whether or not a lot of people had bought the game and enjoyed it or what not, being that it was a JRPG (or an RPG all together) either way, I'd say this one is up there for me and if I had a 360 (Might steal my sister's someday!) I would definitely look into getting this game.

Between Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey was definitely a better game. The story was good, it provided you with a system that encouraged you to level up to the higher 60's and 70's at the least and it was a satisfying experience in the end. The problem is, it used a very outdated interface. What worked in the mid-90's doesn't exactly work in 2008 anymore. While we didn't MIND playing turn-based games back then due to the limitations in technology, we're a lot less forgiving now that we KNOW such titles can be more action-oriented without sacrificing story and graphics.

JRPG's, in their traditional turn-based form should no longer be developed. They are boring and simply do not appeal to anyone except the nerdiest. I am sure that the Japanese would be willing to play RPG's that provide more action. If they are not, ignore them and do what the Western world wants. The Japanese discriminate against American products and will continue to discriminate against them no matter what is done so stop trying to appeal to them and start trying to appeal to us.

After all, this is a part of the world where it is ok, in erotic films, to have a number of guys ejaculate, take a crap and urinate on a woman who screams as though she is being raped so long as the genitalia is censored. God forbid the genitalia be shown and totally gross out the public.

I disagree, pretty much everyone is moaning that JRPGs are on the 360 so trying to appeal to Western gamers whilst neglecting Japanese gamers doesn't work.

And did you see the backlash against DQIX being real time action? it was so bad Square Enix and Level 5 have had to go back and change it all back to the classic system(good job too DQ is awesome and classic).

I think he meant "The Dishwasher", it will rock the world with its awesome yet the masses won't appreciate it. Lost Odyssey deserved the status it got, it was enjoyable AFTER you got off the first disc which was full of the most banal RPG conventions since 8bit days.

It was sad that the vast majority (all?) of the character development for the main chars took place in the Thousand Year stories. They were so well written, you wonder why they weren't integrated better into the main game. Had that been done, it would have been a stellar experience from a storytelling standpoint.

Lost Oddysey was average and generic even for the most jrpg fanatics... Just look at the crappy character design if you're still thinking that the game's above average!

This game is just a rip-off of highlander with the battle system of Final Fantasy IV and all of this done with very bad art and Unreal Engine 3. >_< Holy ....!

At first Odyssey was the game I was going to buy a 360 for, but when they started to show gameplay I completly lost hope. Everything else was fine, I didnt even mind the multiple disks, but the gameplay completly ruined that game for me.

Is a wicked game,I love the battle system it took me back to the day when I played Legend of Dragoon. Of coarse LO uses a circle while LoD uses squares but details, details, lol. Anyway graphics were good, story was decent and I liked the characters. So personally I say if you haven't played this game, you should.

Seems like this style is a hold over from the olden days when you didn't have enough graphic prowess and CPU to do live combat.

Sure D&D is fun but take out the human-human interaction and all you have left over is button mashing on time delay without the visceral feedback.

Turn base combat is about strategy, sorta like chess. True after awhile turn based combat can be a real pain in the @ss but that is why Jrpgs are usually judged on the story and character development.

Wrpgs are generally more about gameplay and indepth skill/stat customization but story generally suffers (though if you look at recent jrpgs the same can be said about crappy story). Personally I hated FF12 because the story and character development sucked IMO and seemed to want to appeal to western audiences (I don't play jrpg's for the western feel, god d@mn it!).

To tell the truth not sure why I went on this rant but yah....oh yah D&D is not a good example of turnbased combat or rpg's that use TBC.

I wish that people wouldn't assume that turn based combat is outdated. It can be a very rewarding combat system. They often require more thought and strategy than the average game which is a nice change of pace for me after playing an action game or racing game perhaps. I really hope that turn based RPGs don't die out because people think of them as relics.

I enjoyed Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey very much. I would like to see Persona 5 come out on either the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 and maintain the classic turn based combat system. I tire of Shin Megami Tensei games a bit, but that's only because I've played so many of them.
