GameSpot: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2: First Look

GameSpot: "Beyond new playable characters, Sigma 2 will feature an all-new online co-op mode that lets you and a friend team up to work your way through more than 30 challenge stages, which can be played in one of four difficulty settings. Your performance will be ranked and uploaded to leaderboards so you can see how you stack up against the world. The stages will be a mix of original areas and those seen in the single-player game, which are being redone for co-op play. Finally, the game will see a good amount of work put into refining the gameplay experience. The game's camera is being tweaked based on user feedback. You will also get additional cues on where to go next from your playable character because your character's head will look off in the direction you're supposed to go in. You'll also find a variety of additional tweaks peppered throughout the gameplay to help make Sigma 2 a smoother, sleeker evolution of its 360 counterpart.

Sigma 2 is making use of an enhanced version of the graphics engine used for the original game. The game is aiming to surpass the visual quality of the last game by blending new tech into the original engine. The results so far are impressive and bode well for the game's final release."

sonarus5339d ago

lol i must admit the coop has me excited.

Thanks microsoft for funding Ninja Gaiden 2. The definitive sigma version couldn't have been possible without you.:D and thanks to Itagaki for GTFO of Tecmo too:)

TheHater5339d ago

I wonder what Itagaki is going to think when he see this trailer and read that its going to have online co-op and two new playable characters?

eagle215339d ago

thanks for your public beta microsoft! :)

read the gamespot comments...lol

pwnsause5339d ago

"Oh and the gore was censored for the show."

Wait were did it said that? they better keep the gore LOL

morganfell5339d ago

They only censored the gore for the public showing, not for the game.

UnSelf5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres the thing however: AS one of many super Ninja Gaiden elitist, i found that NG2 lacks in various areas when compared to part 1. Very subtle areas in fact but areas that makes 1 more enjoyable nonetheless. Heres to a couple of things i hope they fix or remove from 2 to bring back the true ninja style of part 1.

I neva played 2 but did thorough research on it and watched others played and from what i gathered they stripped most of everything that made Ryu a ninja and turned him into some sort of super demon and here are the things ive noticed.

1. in part 1, when u hold blk and tilt left or right, front or back, Ryu either rolls left, rolls right, backflips or roll forwards. Howeever in part 2, he just simply flys or shifts in those directions like some sort of teleporting demon. This maneuver takes away fom Ryu's ninja agileness and replaces it wit lazily developed movement. plz take dis out.

2. In part 1, though Ryu is a fightin expert how good he is relied on just how good u were, seperating the weak from the strong. With moves such as the Flyin Swallow, its easily to see how most ppl will spam this move throoughout the entire game. In part 2 ive noticed that he now has a double flyin swallow attack that almost made me puke. Yea it made add to the ooooo's and ahhhhh's of the game but its makin him less of a expert ninja and more of just a super powered demon.

Right now those are the only 2 i can remmeber but im sure there was more so im beggin u Tecmo (or whoever is responsible) please remove those "cheat" features and bring back the original Hayamusa we all love. The one that makes u work for ur rank

ThanatosDMC5339d ago

How did they explain demons and magic in this game again?

dragunrising5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

Looks like a must buy to me. I was worried it would only be a port. Glad my assumptions are wrong. :-)Day one purchase.

@ meepmoopmeep

"Sigma 2 will feature an all-new online co-op mode that lets you and a friend team up to work your way through more than 30 challenge stages."

I interpret this to mean there is co-op but not through the campaign.

@ Bubbles

Personally I think the save and restore system in NG2 is a little cheap. Each save point restores all your life. This in part takes out the life or death moments from the first. The game is definately easier than the first. Good observation on the animation differences. I miss being able to flip backwards. Granted NG2 was a little rushed. Hopefully they fix all the little quirks that made NG memorable.

Edit: Apparently I said something wrong? If you disagree, speak up son. There was co-op announced but not for the campaign. "Challenge stages" doesn't sound like campaign to me. In the 360 version there was DLC in the form of a "mission mode." I assume this is something similar albeit different. The PS3 should have all of the DLC, and then some with co-op. All I needed to hear was 30% larger campaign and additional characters.

meepmoopmeep5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

well, in the story they said "..."

oh wait... WHAT story?

INehalemEXI5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

fiends, greater fiends , and ninpo is all I know.

SaiyanFury5339d ago

Wow, awesome interview. I loved the original on the 360, but I would totally pay another 60 bucks for this version. I love the extras and the online coop is win win for me, since I care nothing for competing online. Very nice addition also, is the addition of not only one, but TWO extra characters playable. Very nice, I'm liking the 1080p version of Momoji already. :D

XLiveGamer5339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

"Thanks microsoft for funding Ninja Gaiden 2. The definitive sigma version couldn't have been possible without you.:D and thanks to Itagaki for GTFO of Tecmo too" ????

Hey azz thanks too him Team Ninja its what it is and thanks to him you have Ninja Gaiden New Style.

You are definitely a Ninja Gaiden Fan poser.

ThanatosDMC5339d ago

I mean, they did copy the idea of DMC after all, and im psycho for DMC... but i want to understand how ninja's and demons suddenly intertwined. I'm basically scratching my head and asking "WTF?"

Seraphim5339d ago

SIC!! I can't wait. *drops Ninja Gaiden II in garbage*

MisterNiwa5338d ago

Mr. Thanatos, as demon specialist... The only thing thats possible is...

The hell froze and demons like it warm so they go to tokyo where it is warm in summer and cold in winter, so they can live a peaceful life.
But then a ninja called Ryu Hayabusa got pissed and started slaughter them, so the demons got into contact with bad people.
So they turned bad, and its all Ryus fault, now he is trying to make everything okay by killing everyone of them.

!?!??!??!?!?!?!

Killjoy30005338d ago

This is the real reason why Itagaki left. Playstation was getting all the Xbox treatment and it just so happened Techmo decided to join in.

ThanatosDMC5338d ago

I'd buy that cuz they never actually state why in the actual story. Unlike the DMC story of Sparda "awaking to justice"... though im pretty sure i'd go the other way too if im hanging out with dumbass monsters for an eternity and had the power to live with humans and seal away my old friends cuz they'll mess up my fun. Meh, i'll probably try this game out.

co-op ninja gaiden? running through stages with a partner?....I picked up sigma. it was good and i enjoyed it, but i never thought it'd be a series i would really be following too much...but with this little number (and the appropriate fixes that plagued NG2) i might pick this one up as well...another 65(tax included) dollars might be leaving my wallet this year...:(

rogimusprime5338d ago (Edited 5338d ago )

since I'll be snagging this one day one. Hopefully they fix the slowdown issues and can keep it at 60fps when hordes of enemies are one screen.

I do wonder how it supposed to be a prequel to the NES games. Obviously the demon statue just kind of disappears after the blood chick steals it...Ryu never gets it back. And in NG1 on NES there are two twin demon statues....

Whatever...we don't play these games for the story anyway.

THE DAHBILIRO IS BACK!!!

jams_shop5339d ago

Sold!!! day one enough said

stealthy-guy5339d ago

and here i thought it was gonna be just another port.

i just might have to get this game now.

i_like_ff75339d ago (Edited 5339d ago )

Why are you talking about visuals for a game like ninja gaiden :/ Its never been a visual powerhouse, its dead fun to play though. Can't wait!

Dante's inferno... an excellent GoW inspired game. So sad the sequels will never be.

LoveSpuds378d ago (Edited 378d ago )

I recall enjoying it well enough at the time, but it wasn't a patch on God of War 3 which came out around the same time I think.

I own it and fired it up on my PS3 about 6 months ago and time hadn't been particularly kind to it although it still very much nailed the atmosphere and it is a cool as he'll setting and universe.

Inverno378d ago

Dante's Inferno needs the GOW treatment. No cut camera, with a real hellish depiction of the 9 circles and a story as dark and as serious would be amazing.

Yui_Suzumiya378d ago

Still pretty amazing there was a PSP version that was actually pretty good. I remember playing it 10 years ago. I had the PS3 version when it first came out and loved it.

Hellcat2020378d ago

Ahh the memories of playing Heavenly Sword
Such a amazing experience

LoveSpuds378d ago

Yup, I remember being blown away with Heavenly Sword. I remember holding out hope that they would go back and add trophy support as a incentive to go back and replay the game, but I don't think they ever did?

Yui_Suzumiya378d ago

I couldn't beat the final boss though! Spent several days trying but eventually gave up, lol. Still enjoyed it though.

refocusedman378d ago

heavenly sword was such a short, but amazing game. that game should be prime material to be made into a download only remaster.

YoungKingDoran378d ago

I really enjoyed Castlevania, but struggled to get into it again reattempting it a few years back. I still think it does another of things well; story, presentation, level varietily and art style at least. Gameplay maybe has not stood test of time unfortunately which makes it a chore to get through.

They need to make a true sequel to Ninja Gaiden 2, that was the most satisfying combat I've experienced in a hack n slash game.

micdagoat191412d ago

been playing 1&2 on and off since they were released. I usually will play until I get frustrated then take another year off lol. Nver tried 3 or the 4th one even though they are in my backlog.

Domestupidname1412d ago

I tried to go back to Sigma but good god those controls are just insufferable. Couldn't do it.

Very nice, but playing on original console is better - unless, of course, the console's tech is way too old and incompatible with the current tech standards.
The emulators must always be developed, though. It is good as a way to preserve and play old games.

1694d ago
MoshA1694d ago

Maybe in 5 years peasants will have access to our nostalgic games lol.

Casepb1693d ago

Backwards compatible PS5 is their only hope.

boing11693d ago

Only hope? Only hope for what? Mainstream console gaming is crushing mainstream PC gaming for several years now. You are extremely out of tune with reality.

mkis0071693d ago (Edited 1693d ago )

Consoles are cheap, would think not being able to buy one would make one a peasant. Personally, I dont understand the mindset; why not own everything if you can?

On top of my gaming pc, having a ps4 and Switch is a must for me. ( also have an X but it has been relegated to uhd player/ red dead 2 machine)

What is an extra couple hundred bucks to someone who loves to play.

ShadowWolf7121693d ago

A gas bill.
A light/water bill.
A car payment.
About a week or two's worth of groceries.
An unexpected expense that they can now cover.

I can go on. That is one hella privileged mindset there, broski. lol

mkis0071693d ago

Shadow

Sorry I was referring to his use of the word peasant. Obviously meant to troll, but its fun to dissmantle the use of it.

PurpHerbison1693d ago (Edited 1693d ago )

It was a joke.

MoshA1692d ago

Because you can't enjoy the best games due to 30 fps. Thank God for that. If you care about fps more than graphics/combat/story/music then you don't deserve anything but LoL, Apex, WoW etc.

boing11693d ago

Care to give an example of such nostalgic game that console players would love to have? Because so far all I read about are poor attempts of launching 15 years old console games on PC with a playable framerate.

mkis0071693d ago (Edited 1693d ago )

Why would you want the ps3 version when the ps4 version will always be better than even an improved ps3 emulated one? Uncharted 1 was converted to Uncharted 2's engine on the drake collection. Runs at 60fps with uncharted 3 or better level graphics.
