One of the most overrated games of this gen regardless of platform.

Rhythmattic5878d ago

@ Beware Oblivion

What you state regarding console titles is an opinion, Not Fact. Fact.

Cenobia5878d ago

If its all MS why did you bother getting a 360? Just to give them more money? You make it sound like L4D was made by Microsoft, when its a Valve game. Microsoft doesn't make games...

And to comment about the console war like you weren't a part of it is just hilarious. You're trying so hard to make people believe that MS is the alpha and omega that I'm beginning to think you're starting a cult. He didn't even mention the PS3 and you basically call him a fanboy.

Go to the Open Zone where you belong.

Sabre_G5878d ago

L4D and Mass Effect both available on Pc, so technically not exclusive to the 360.

ChampIDC5878d ago

Indeed, but the games still can't be played on any other console, so it can go either way depending on how you look at it. I like to say they're console exclusive but not platform exclusive.

Even being exclusive to just one console is a boost for that console, because gaming PCs aren't cheap, and most people will go for the cheaper console.

You're definitely right, though. The word "exclusive" is used incorrectly far too often.

peeps5878d ago

And Braid will be available on Steam soon. List could have been a bit better imo

ShabzS5878d ago (Edited 5878d ago )

'' only on xbox 360 and windows.'' ... i dont think MS cares which platform of THEIRS you play it on.. as longs as u paid for ur 360 or vista

hippo245878d ago

I say kind sir, would you mind finding out what the definition of "Exclusive" is before you post?
http://dictionary.reference...
Even if the DS is excluded from the proverbial mix, then the game is technically an exclusive. Kindly learn the English language before trying to make a technicality of it...

ShabzS5878d ago

we can argue english all day with ur dictionary by ur side ... i mean u sent a link for the word exclusive from a site... obviously u are comitted to this ... fact is they're considered exclusives.. deal with it

hippo245878d ago (Edited 5878d ago )

So I'm not allowed to tell people they are making a mess of a word, that does not mean what they say it to mean?
Is the English language a suggestion nowadays?

ShabzS5878d ago

dude go tell it to microsoft ... THEY call it exclusives... go fight the power.. stick it to the man ... or .. erm.. what have you ... frankly i dont care

hippo245878d ago

What I'm saying is that a company like MS or Sony can call a game exclusive, and even if it appears on another platform, its still, by definition, an exclusive.

Revvin5878d ago

Hmm yes I agree with the above comments that neither Left 4 Dead or Mass Effect are exclusive but I'm surprised not to see mention of quality games like Forza 2 or perhaps the PGR series. Had it been my list and I felt the need to include an arcade title in there then I think I would have put Geometry Wars in place of Braid.

Sangria5878d ago

I still don't get why Halo 3 is considered as good. Yes, Gears Of War 2, Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect are very good games. Just like Fallout 3, i passed many times on Mass Effect (even if i had a regrettable save problem at Zhu's Hope) and Left4Dead & GoW2 are great online (yes, i say GoW2 is great online despite criticism, i've never had any trouble playing or noticed something to change).

But Halo 3? I can't understand why everyone loves it. I couldn't finish the game, i had a save problem when we reach some kind of organic place (very probably nearly the end of the game) and i pissed me off so much i didn't want to redo all the game. I didn't feel any pleasure playing the game, thus i was well-prepared to pass a great moment.

So no, in my opinion Halo 3 doesn't deserve to be #1 in any top, not even in the biggest disappointments (as there is already Lair and Haze).

ShabzS5878d ago

i dont get it either... i played the first halo about 3 yrs ago... and as i finished the game i sat their thinking ppl actually like this??... couldnt play the 2nd one and the third one i just didnt want to... but they do have the best multiplayer out there on live.. so that should count for something...

JDW5878d ago

....and I also have neither a PS3 or Wii.

Yet, I have somehow played and completed 3 of these 360 "exclusives".

How can that be?

dictionary.com tells me that exclusive means:-

a)limited to the object or objects designated or,
b)shutting out all others from a part or share

So is the 360 (a)limiting these games to only the designated 360 console or (b) shutting out all other gaming platforms from sharing these games......no, of course it isn't.

These 360 exclusives are merely timed exclusives at best.....and sneaky marketing at worse.

hippo245878d ago

What? I think you need to reread those definitions.
If 2 people are part of a club and they forbid any others to enter, they are infact, part of an "exclusive" club. If anyone can be excluded from a group then the group is exclusive.

JDW5878d ago

I need to reread nothing.

It doesn't matter how it is phrased.....games like Gears, Mass Effect and L4D are not exclusive to the 360.

That is a cold hard fact.

A 360 is not needed to play these games......so they cannot be exclusive.

hippo245878d ago

I'm serious when I say are you retarded.
Exclusive does not entail that their can be only one person/thing/item associated with it. EXCLUSIVE means something is being EXCLUDED hence the similarities in the root word.

As long as something is EXCLUDED then the item is EXCLUSIVE.

I don't care If these games can be played on xbox, pc, Ps3, gamecube, or even the sega dreamcast, the point is your using the term "exclusive" wrong. If you want to use a more accurate term, or phrase your sentences correctly, in order to convey the same message, thats fine by me, but you ARE using the term wrong.

JDW5878d ago (Edited 5878d ago )

The article in question is calling these games exclusive to only 360 owners....but they are not.

They are also available for PC owners.....which means they are not exclusively available on the 360.

@ marichuu

good call on crackdown....I played that tons on my friends 360, trying to find the orbs was addicting.

hippo245878d ago (Edited 5878d ago )

If you say something is "exclusively available on console y" that means console y is not being excluded from what ever product your making.
The way in which exclusive is explained it refers to console y as a group that will include something, that others will be excluded from. Even if you add someone/something previously excluded to the exclusive group, the group is still exclusive, as long as it excludes another group. By definition the term exclusive does not refer to one person or products, but a group of people/products. This makes it completely within the confines of the English language to say something is exclusive, when it may have or add multiple groups to its encompassment.

ftwps35878d ago (Edited 5878d ago )

Wow, JDW while I think its some serious bull that Microsoft can get away with calling things exclusive when they come out for the ps3 or pc within a few years. Hippos still technically correct.

You both are getting way to riled up about this though.

JDW5878d ago

http://wordnetweb.princeton...

(adj) exclusive, sole (not divided or shared with others) "they have exclusive use of the machine"; "sole rights of publication"

or in other words.....the article claims the 360 has exclusive/sole rights to the games listed (although the 360 clearly does not)

Gears of War 2 Remake was in development “10 years ago” but was scrapped by Xbox

Ayi Sanchez: "Old work. I did this 10 years ago now as part of a material test for a remaster of Gears of War 2 that never happened."

RaidenBlack45d ago

lolz,
hope we're still getting Gears 2 & 3 for PC, as per rumors

Cacabunga44d ago

Xbox always taking the right decisions

XiNatsuDragnel45d ago

Wow... just wow Microsoft sigh at it again 😑

Lightning7745d ago

Weird, in mean they had no studios to make anything really new so there's a part of me thats kinda glad they scrapped it. If they released this back then it would of gotten ridiculed for remakes and remastering stuff. Now they have new and interesting games so the collection is harmless.

CrimsonWing6944d ago

Geez, Xbox, something like that I would’ve bought Day 1. Great business decisions over there.

lucasnooker44d ago

10 years ago it wasn’t such a big deal. The games were only a few years old by that point

CrimsonWing6944d ago

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition came out in 2015 (essentially 10 years ago), having a follow-up to that on the then next-gen console would’ve absolutely been welcomed, in my book.

LoveSpuds44d ago

I can only assume the the Gears of War Remaster flopped so they decided to scrap the other remakes?

Seems short sighted to me as I really enjoyed the 1st remaster. Regardless, I'll snap up some remakes to play on my PS5.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies364d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken364d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing69364d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker364d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing69364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos364d ago (Edited 364d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt364d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken364d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
