Good interview... What a humble guy.

His head looks like a can of beans...

*Edit NOOO! They didn't ask him about the upcoming firmware update!

There's been 4 million unique accounts in Home. And the average time a person spends in Home was an hour!

I've even found myself using Home for 5 hours straight at a time. ^_^

People also buy lots of stuff. The most bought stuff were usually the more expensive ones too, like Summer Houses and RE5 or SF costumes.

"Our competition had a very aggressive pricing strategy, but they also were packing 2,3,4 games in with the unit weekend to weekend with different retailers, and that cost a lot of money. So we had a profit goal and they had a market share goal."

lol, that statement will get the N4G beehive buzzing, but I agree with what he's saying

Lfmesquite3501d ago

That's about the only way they can view PS3 getting outsold month after month and losing ground in market share.

Just say we have a profit plan not a market share plan.

In other words, we accept that we lost the console war.

Not what PS3 fans should want to hear.

PS3 has average around 10 million a year with a schedule lifecycle of 10 years. This is a total of at least 100 million. The PS3 is only 2 and a couple of months old.

SCE is focusing on profitiability right now because they have to justify their business more than ever in these tough times to top management and shareholders. You can't go for market share if management and shareholders are not happy with your business and are shutting down studios like MS have have done for their gaming division.

Sony as usual are playing their own game. They know they are tracking well with 10 million a year even with a significantly higher price point and without most of their top games. They need not worry so much about market share right now as to profitability. What you also forget is that the x360 launched a year ahead the PS3. Sony need not to match the x360 installs right now because of this fact, which is the PS3 has only been out 2 years as to x360 3 years.

What he is saying is true about competition. MS is more interested in market share than profitability. For example. MS sold slightly more x360 in 2008 compare to 2007 but in total their revenue was down in 2008 mostly because of the price cut and numerous game bundles.

The Console war is far for over and you are gravely mistaken if you think Sony has given up.

no-spin3501d ago

the market share argument is the main difference between MS and Sony. After MS got destroyed last gen, they act in a sense of desperation, and they are right because if they were competing without the price drops and bundles it would be possible for Sony to bash them again.
Anyway you put it, MS is in for the market share, Sony is in the business mentality, where profit is the main goal.

UltimateIdiot9113501d ago

I said that a few months ago, all the 360 fanboys attacked me on that and try to argue that Microsoft isn't aggressive in their price cut for market share.

redsquad3501d ago

Uuughhh, "last place" whinging again. The original XBOX was 'last' after the PS2. Do you say it was crap? It was worthless? Stop being so childish and throwing numbers up as some sort of 'proof' of your own narrow views.

AceMarcy3501d ago

I'm not surprised they jumped you lol, but its totally true

Lfmesquite3501d ago

= fail

They can communicate their way straight to last place in market share.
Gamers buy video game consoles for video games. That's why the PS3 is in dead last.

TheHater3501d ago

So what you are saying LightingPS3PS3 is that the PS3 has no games. Yes we know its [email protected]#King you dude.

Lfmesquite3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

That's not my user name. I've never had that user name before.

And, no I'm not saying the PS3 doesn't have games. PS3 has games, problem is so does the competition. They both have games and PS3 costs double.

I'm right, you're wrong and the NPD proves it.

Szarky3501d ago

It's okay man, we understand. Mommy and daddy couldn't afford to get you a PS3 so you settled on a Wii or Xbox360.

frayer3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

And why the wii is in first? Sony doesn't have to do much because the 360 is irrelevant competition when it'll come to pricing wars. A $299.99 PS3 will only make the 360 look like the inferior machine it is- more so than a $399.99 PS3 can. Microsoft can't only compete in NA when Sony already has EU and JPN locked at that price. It'll also be the best multimedia device on the market at $299.99- opening up a more larger consumer base. Face it, the 360 is irrelevant.

bubu but teh 360 stil leads by 8 millionz
bubu but 5millionz
bubu but 2millionz
bubu but....

i have to agree with the hater, i thought you were lightningps3ps3 after i read your comment on the second post...weird.

Szarky3501d ago

Mmmmmm... bubbles. Deeelicious!

Godmars2903501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

Noticing that a lot of people are referring to "dead last" like the PSP "wasn't a success" versus the numbers the DS was doing.

The PS3 is 7-8 million behind the 360 while the first Xbox was 100 million behind the PS2 yet was only referred to being in 2nd place.

Just saying.

I also would like to point out that I bought my PS3 when I bought it because it played both games and media at a higher quality than anything else owned at the time.

eagle213501d ago

and that's why 33%-68% of 360's are dead. :)

StayHigh3501d ago

last time i check the ps3 is a gaming system..actually its everything thats why its future proof..unlike the 360 that come with RROD you cant even play games on it at all..

silvacrest3501d ago

i knew NPD would be brought up by someone, guess what?
NPD doesnt reflect what is really going on around the world

StephanieBBB3501d ago

The PS3 has killzone2 and more coming, What comes close to that game on any other system?

Im waiting...

cereal_killa3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

Bubble to hater thats the 1st person I though of when I seen his comment was Lightning360360.

SALES SALES SALES that's all you fanboys care about if you guys actually played the games you buy instead you wait till NDP and VGchartz drop you might be on here allot less. The quality of games being produced on the PS3 justify's anyone purchase at no matter what it cost you and it's only going to get better and better this year and in the future. I'm sure there are some top notch developers that can't wait to get there hands on the PS3s power and just be able to let go. Hell I would love to see what Cliffy B (although a huge Dbag) could do if he would let his ego sink down for a bit could do with a PS3 exclusive.

"If you look at a game like Killzone 2, it comes in at 40 gigs on a Blu-ray disc – you can't do that on the competition's platform. Last year, Metal Gear Solid 4 was a great proof point at close to 50 gigs. We're just starting to scratch the surface on PS3 development, and the development community has come nowhere close to tapping out what the PS3 can do."

Can you say Bright Future!

ToastyMcNibbles3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

bright future indeed but that statement caught me off guard a bit...didnt one of the developers at gg already state that killzone 2 fit on a 25 gig blu-ray disk? this guy pete says it clocks in at 40 gigs on a blu-ray disk

40cal3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

I don't really know how big Killzone 2 is. I think that the point is that "you can't do that on the competition's platform."

I am really excited to see what else devs can do with such a huge creative canvas.

@ the disagree, so you can make 25-50 gig games on other platforms? Where? Show me!

Ju3501d ago

My YDL6.1 mounts it with 12GB, but who knows what else is there in hidden spots...I can see the intros and stuff, but no resources and such. So, I don't think that number is accurate. I got a nice wallpaper of the disk, though :)

ToastyMcNibbles3501d ago

true thats really what it comes down to..everytime i pop that game in im always amazed at how good it looks and how awesome it feels when playing it...its so rewarding when you shoot people in the game because it has such a realistic feel to it that you just dont get in other first person shooters

Any guesses on what these could be?

ToastyMcNibbles3501d ago

i'll guess...Twisted Metal for the PS3...Syphon Filter for the PS3...Team Ico game for the PS3...those are obvious though...and something from Incognito and yeah i dont know lol...Sony surprises so you never know what they have up their sleeve

40cal3501d ago

Is coming up soon, I hope they show and tell something new.

fishd3501d ago

Team Ico game

ToastyMcNibbles3501d ago
