I'm just curious what "enough" means to the author of this article...

And saying "Well...sales are still behind DVD" is idiotic and it's grasping at straws. Of COURSE it's behind DVD! DVD was behind VHS for many years, yet few sung its doom.

These articles always try to herald Digital Downloads as the coming apocalypse for Blu Ray. Of COURSE DD will overtake Blu Ray...in 20 years. Oh! Oh! Oh! And implanting the movie directly into your mind will overtake DD! Oh! Oh! So don't buy into the DD fad!!!

DVD came out like 8-10 years ago. With a larger install base, its only NATURAL for it to sell more. I would be very concerned if that was not the case.

Fact is however, if you compare DVDs early years with Blu Rays early years...Blu Ray absolutely BLOWS DVD out of the water. And lets not mention HD DVD. Blu Ray didnt just kill it off. Blu Ray absolutely destroyed HD DVD.

Awesome selection of Blu Ray movies later this year as well.

And more. Its like the classic: "but, but, but, MGS4 alone is not enough for me to purchase a PS3" argument. Its silly and makes absolutely no sense at all. Its 6 months since MGS4. And its no longer just MGS4 now. There are 7-9 MUST HAVE, MUST OWN titles for the PS3. And by the end of this year, that would be 20. By the end of next year, that number would be 30 and so forth and so forth.

Meanwhile those people who said MGS4 is not enough, are the stupid ones. They missed out on the greatest games gaming has to offer. And 7 years from now, in the next console wars, people will talk and say "woah, MGS7 is coming out. I love that game. I still remember MGS4, so epic."

And those guys who missed out on MGS4 will feel incredibly dumb because they have absolutely NO CLUE what they missed.

Its the same with Blu Ray. You can play fanboy if you want and talk shiat about PS3 and Sony for years to come hiding behind your fanboy goggles. But the reality is, youre missing on the greatest the tech industry has to offer and yes 90% of the greatest are PS3 only. So youre missing more than we are. I can buy Fable 2 and Left 4 dead for the PC.

You cant play MGS4 or GOW3 on any other console. So yea, play stupid for all we care. Youre the one who got owned, 360 fanboys. Not us. Not us.

Saw a $149.99 Blu-ray player at Costco the other day. Nearly all the pre packaged boxes were gone. I'd say its doing great.

Never understood why Costco keeps their media tech and media formats about 12 ales away from each other...

Dunno about the players, but in the UK a lot of Zavvi stores have reduced the price of most BRs to £10, about the same (or less) as a regular DVD.

I haven't paid more than £15 for a Blu-ray since the beginning of last year, shopping online really does pay off.

amazon.co.uk and play.com often have 3 for 2 offers and the prices are usually quite good.

blu ray is the new format and considered to be the last with compression to come making blu ray larger in size.

its not trying to win it has won. the question is how long before the last dvd is ever made?

here is the thing most movies are now recorded in HD which is cheaper cause you dont have to save on tape length and size. also allows to record all off camera content to add to bonus footage for blu ray releases. the more this happens the less extra footage would make it to standard dvd releases.

some studios are also waiting to re release their current dvde library on blu ray before putting a stop to dvd.

do people hate sony so much that they just cant accept the reality that blu ray is here to stay and wont be going no where?

the company i work for had purchased a blu ray recorder tower (5 writable blu rays) expensive at the time since this was before blu ray won the war. but they have already started saving money by removing data off our servers after 6 months and backing it up to blu ray. the price for maintaining a companies server is roughly just over one dollar for each gig of storage whcih each department has to pay out of their yearly budget. tape back ups are expensive and require proper storage which means data pick up to a remote location that would be too expensive to mail. the solution? blu ray back ups.

whats the point of that? blu ray movie and player prices are also followed by blu ray recorder prices dropping. which is followed by more adoption of the format.

does anyone remember when standard dvd players cost abotu $800 and didnt even play more than one format of video?

Sounds like an "Average" BR player. PS3's dont need to load, I've only had one movie that ever did and I think that was because it was my first BR Live title.

And they resume playback, upscale DVD's to 1080p and as a little bonus, play the best games this generation.

The best thing about it though is its very existence gives NewsForGoons the sh*ts and keeps him up at night trolling instead of playing games. Thats worth it for that alone.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see "yes man" for $24 on bluray(drops soon). New DVDs still retail for that much. Oh, and the bluray includes a digital download.
