This thread in the AVS Forums seems to address typical Sony Marketing tactics, and the desperation of the Blu-Ray consortium. It also doesn't speak well of Best Buy's dedication to customer satisfaction.
bla bla bla. my taunt talked me that a EB Games employeer pushed her to buy a Toshiba HDVD Player. can you stop posting such stupid senseless articles, which only purpose is to bash sony ?! ms pushes everyone to buy windows when you are buying a pc, who cares about this ??? noone, so stop spreading rumours (yes these are no facts) which has nothing to do with the ps3.
IF THIS IS TRUE. This is the same thing that Sony did w/ the Dreamcast. Forced retailers to put it in the back, and take down all ads for it. They probably payed a good amount of money to Best Buy. Let's see if it works.

lol Microsoft doesn't make you buy Windows...but I'd like to see your computer operate without it...their the only ones CAPABLE with enough experience to make the OS, know how long it would take another company to design an entire OS? not to mention they'd have to beat out Windows first, nice try their
Lets post real articles and not made up lies on a forum. This sounds made up and probably is. I agree with #1. PRINT ARTCLES, not a users comments full of lies. I also went to Best buy this weekend and Blu-ray and HD-dvd were BOTH hooked up and both looked good. GET OFF THE LIES.
I'm not a Sony fan, but I just got off the phone with a Best Buy manager (my company sells wholesale stuff) and I asked her if they were pushing the Bluray or the HD-DVD, and she said they put equal amounts of both on the floor and showcase them equally. I did ask if she knows of any pressure to push one more than the other, and she said that they are worrying about Sony (from what they've done before) but it shouldn't be a problem since BestBuy is so big. And, they haven't heard anything from Sony on the subject as far as she knows.

Why are you trying to cover up what Sony does? It don't matter. Walmart ain't going for it and that where the bulk of the consumers will decide the next gen of gaming and movie playback. But its true. I went there. I talked to the sales people. Anyone can go see for themselves. DOn't take my word for it. Corporate will not put the hd dvd out on display. They have an agreement with Sony to only display the Blu ray player. They told me that Sony paid for that to happen. But if you ask enough they will plug in the hd dvd player on the same screen as the blu ray and then you can see what SONY does not want you to see. I don't know why. But hd dvd looks better than blu ray. See for your self. But thats probably why sony didn't want them being displayed at the same time. That would KILL blu ray sales. 500 dollars more and it looks worse. Hell no.
Its not fake news. Go to Best buy and see for yourself. Ask the floor salesman. Thats what I did before I bought my hd dvd player this last weekend. And they will tell you the same. Its funny how sony fanboys even try to ignore the truth when its presented and makes sony look bad. Go to Best Buy...you will see what I already told you. And hd dvd does display 1080p. Not out the box. But when you get home you can download the firmware update which makes it able to display 1080p. I did and its unbelievable.

The early adopter crowd started panning the Samsung BD-P1000 for its inability to match (not outshine but not even match) the video performance of Toshiba HD-DVD X1-A player. That is not a "Sony" player, but it is a Sony format and the format is the problem as much as the player due to the use of poor codecs (MPEG2) instead of improved ones (VC1).
The PS3 will AT BEST have a BD player on par with the Samsung unit. This means that its performance as a BD-player is going to be highly suspect at best. Sony forcing BD into the PS3 is actually going to give an even bigger boost to MS this fall when the PS3 fails to deliver the hype on two fronts - both the video game graphics front (won't look anything like the E3-05 promises at launch, not even close) and on the movie playback front (where a bad BD player has already been shown to deliver quality LESS than HD-DVD at TWICE the price!).
Face it, there is NO WAY to positively spin the results of the Blu-Ray debut and its lack of quality head-to-head with HD-DVD. The fact that Sony is trying to buy their way out of it is almost comical. They can do whatever they want, but most people in the videophile world are savy enough to get the information and the comparisons of HD-DVD and BD before they choose. They are going to adopt the better looking of the two formats and the early lead there is no contest - HD-DVD is kicking the sh!t out of BD in picture quality. That is probably a huge reason why Sony delayed their player to get it out as close to the PS3 as possible - limit the collateral dammage from an under-performing software format (Blu-Ray movies) as much as possible.
