The Graying of the PS2: Saying Good Bye to A True Legend

In an article by E-gear.com. The long and prosporous life of the PS2 is remembered. They also recap some of the greatest games to graze the system as of late and did not fail to mention it may have a couple more hits left in it.

Reading this article almost brought a tear to my eye. I remember the first day I brought that sucker home. My first comment was....

"OMFG... Soul Calibur plays better on my dreamcast!!!"

Here we are 7 years later and it has been one of the best console experiences I have yet to have. PS2 deffly one for the record books.

Isn't PS2 still outselling PS3? And 360? And heck, maybe even Wii? I wouldn't call that dead.

The PS2 was indeed a great system. I remember trying to figure out which "next-gen" system to ask my parents for for Christmas. I also remember my dad being on a "business trip" on launch day. My mom and dad took turns waiting in line at Walmart for it. I played Tekken Tag Tournament and Madden 01 too much to realize that it was coming under pressure from the media at the time. Possibly the greatest console of all time, and it's still kicking (God of War 2 FTW).

Hell, it also pushed the DVD format. I can't say that I miss the old VHS tapes.

ive go pro evolution soccer 6, but ill buy okami, gow2 and ffxii before my old man retires at the trade shop, for some fresh ps3 games.

I had a Good time, at launch an oh hell yeah I have STREET FIGHTER EX3,an it still play like its launch day in October. PS2 opened peoples eyes and WOW'd the World! 2007 it still is out selling PS3, ironic huh!

Lol I never really thought about it as a console...sounds weird, but it was my bros. And I was lucky enough to buy games on it. I remember being surprised at the difference in graphics everytime I bought a game.

When I bought Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - I was like look at those animations! Wow...and it looks so good. And then I bought God of War...and I was like wtf! Seriously, the difference compared to games before. The water had reflections in it from everything! on the ps2!? Anyway so yeah it was all about the games graphics etc for me...i guess the ps2 did me well. Still got Okami, GOW2 and Tomb Raider Anniversary to go though! And I will move onto the ps3 when Heavenly Sword comes out.

Don't write that obit just yet...even though the focus has switched to the PS3 and the next-gen systems, many people--particularly families with kids--are still looking at the PS2 as a reasonably-priced system with thousands of games that appeal to the whole family. I think it will continue to do well for at least another year. Once Christmas '07 is done, look for the system to slowly fade away, but I think it will make it to its 8th birthday.

with a ton of great games that helped revolutionize gaming. The MGS series, SOCOM, GOW, and it helped bring online console gaming around. Also promoted 2 MMORPGs on console. I remember my wife being pissed when I walked in the door with it.

It brought me into the dvd age with the Matrix. It was the first and only console I ever stayed in line and slept outside for just to say I did it. It was a beautiful time and I wore out play a variety of games. It will sit proudly next to my psone when I get my PS3 tomorrow. I just put it back in its original box last night. I felt a tear coming on...
