The most rubbish DLC on Xbox Live

Downloadable content has become a part of the videogame world whether gamers like it or not. It's become an inevitable eventuality for nearly every big name title, and gamers have now come to expect most hot games to continue making money with downloadable add-ons ranging from extra costumes and weapons, to map packs and full-on episodic material.

The debate rages on concerning the right and wrong way to use DLC, whether or not publishers are holding back content that could have easily released on the disc, and whether it is right to design extra stuff at the same time the game itself is being made. In order to try and help this debate continue, Destructoid has compiled a little list of some of the worst DLC available on the console with the strongest online userbase, the Xbox 360.

is how people complain about MS being DLC whores, when LBP, you have to pay for new outfits for your virtual barbie haha. and how about those HOME jeans for 2 bucks... riiiiiight. PSN might be free, but to look cool on it you have to pay.

Graphics Whore5617d ago (Edited 5617d ago )

but to look cool on it? I didn't realize you wanted to play Dress up with Ken and Barbie.

The reason people say that is because Microsoft throws money at everything to make it exclusive and it bit them in the ass this year.

hankmoody5617d ago

I bought the Scorpion suit and the Tank Pack simply because I liked the game so much that I wanted to support the developers in any manner I could. I do agree that some of the DLC is not only overpriced but completely mercenary.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion's Shivering Isles Is One Of The Best DLCs In Gaming

Oblivion's Shivering Isles is arguably the best DLC for any RPG and is still enjoyable after more than 17 years.

Snookies1226d ago

I was just thinking about that a few weeks ago. How amazing Shivering Isles was... Felt like a whole new world.

TheNamelessOne26d ago

So few game get true expansions anymore.

Charlieboy33325d ago

Witcher 3 Blood and Wine is the best dlc for any rpg....not even arguably. It is the best.

DustMan25d ago

Agree that Blood and Wine is an exceptional DLC cut from the same quality cloth of the main game. Shivering Isles was that over a decade ago, and was truly a unique setting from the rest of the game. Possibly one of the last major old school "expansion" packs.

TheColbertinator25d ago

Terrific expansion. A starkly different locale with new plants, wildlife, towns, weapons, quests, Daedra variations including a remarkable madman deity presiding over that beautiful freak show.

Bethesda may never make anything that good again and that saddens me.

EA Japan Exec Criticises Japanese Ratings Board

An executive of Electronic Arts Japan has criticised the Japanese video game ratings board for allowing upcoming action game Stellar Blade to be released uncensored while EA's own Dead Space was banned in the country.

CrimsonWing6994d ago

He’s got a point. If a game is M-Rated, which is the equivalent of an R rating, I don’t get why you need to censor anything. The rating is the indicator of the content and the age appropriate. If it’s appropriate for adults… why treat them like children? 🤷‍♂️

Eonjay94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

This is about gore... not about anything sexual. And specifically I think it is about the realistic depiction of gore. Unfortunately I don't know the nuance of the CERO board or how it is relevant their specific culture (as a prohibition on gore may transcend age) so I hesitate to make a statement. Can anyone else provide insight to what kind of gore is considered unacceptable?

CrimsonWing6994d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Yea, I know this is about gore, but thanks for pointing that out.

My point still stands, if a game is essentially rated for a mature audience then why censor for them as if they’re too young to view it? Makes no sense.

To answer your question: Decapitation, dismemberment, like… anything gore. They have been censoring that since CERO was established. Look up RE4 chainsaw decapitation or any MK games that made it there.

Cacabunga94d ago

EA Japan? Wtf never heard of that

ZwVw94d ago

Yet, the Oneechanbara series (y'know, the game with half-naked samurai females slicing up zombies to bloody pieces) get released in Japan uncensored.

The CERO ratings board is an equilibrium.

Smellsforfree93d ago

This confuses me since I've seen so many gory Japanese movies and anime. For example, Battle Royale.

gold_drake94d ago

definitely has a point.

but .. its japan. are we really surprised?

VersusDMC94d ago

I don't know if the EA executive is going off the one close up of an arm being cut off in the demo. Maybe it's uncensored because it's the arm of a cyborg or it doesn't happen that often (didn’t see EVE dismemberment when killed in the demo) .

In the states there's a certain amount of swear words allowed to a PG13 movie before it is deemed R. So maybe it's the same in Japan for gore?

Eonjay94d ago

Yes I think you may be on to something. The violence is gory but I wouldn't call it gruesome.

Retroman94d ago

Ea Japan please make Knack 3
in the future

Eonjay94d ago (Edited 94d ago )

Does EA Japan actually make games at all? Or are they just a regional publisher?

Retroman93d ago

I'm sorry Japan Studio made Knack

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot97d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator96d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin97d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai97d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto97d ago (Edited 97d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis00796d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer96d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Ultra-MAGA97d ago

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer96d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.
