No Sex In games Please - We Are American

This is a look at how sex has been depicted in games over the years and the attitudes that greet its inclusion.

These attitudes vary greatly depending on the culture you live in. Americans appear to be one of the least tolerant of sexual content, at least in the Western World.

But Heaven forbid we show a t*t or two, the "family-values" groups will be up in arms.

And what's really more psychologically destructive? A breast - which male or female we will all develop a relationship with at some point - or a murder?

green5520d ago

In Europe it's actually the opposite. They have a more open mind towards sex but don't tolerate violence the way Americans do.

TOO PAWNED5520d ago

"green
Yup exactly. You can find ton of movies in Europe that are based around sex, and usually it includes very young boy and through what he goes.
Like movie "Malena" http://www.imdb.com/title/t...
Sure that movie was released in USA but sex scenes were removed lol.

I guess in USA as long as you don't show sex scene you are fine, you can have ppl eat brains (hanibal movies) or something like chainsaw massacre, but sex? O hell no, that is bad for your mind lol.

green5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

SO true.I watched Maleena 3 years ago and it is a very good movie and one that shows Monicca Belluci acting talents. But no no no...That movie will be crucified in America especially Fox News.

TheTwelve5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

Green, you're EXACTLY right.

Guess, if an American spends his/her vacation on a beach on an island in Greece, they might think they are in a porn movie.

Venomish5520d ago

basically you can go yourself and have sex, why watch it, it should be kept only between the two people having sex. I dont think most of you guys want to film yourselves having sex and put it on the internet

on the other hand you cant just go killing people around, this is why we need movies and games like that, at least in my opinion

SupaPlaya5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

I was there 12 years ago, it is beautiful (the little white houses, the clear water - you can see the sea urchins at the sea floor), both the scenery and the women. Too bad I was a teenager at the time, I'll probably have more fun sight-seeing now than before.

Video game violence: Nobody is hurt when violence is portrayed. The player will likely sympathize with the one being hurt.

Video game nudity: Seeing nudity out of context of normal life tempts the player to seek it in real life.

Chris3995520d ago

"Violence is illustration. Sex is temptation.
Video game violence: Nobody is hurt when violence is portrayed. The player will likely sympathize with the one being hurt."

Sorry, but your rationale is clouded. People will likely sympathize with the one being hurt? Do you honestly think that the millions of players gunning down people in GTA or COD4 stop to take a moment of silence or make a prayer for each body that piles up at their feet?

"Video game nudity: Seeing nudity out of context of normal life tempts the player to seek it in real life."

Ludicrous, and the same methodology can easily be applied to violence.

The Earth is round btw. And your thinking is outdated.

based on the polls and in the way people act in those ps home videos were they all participate in that weird kinda buggy orgy thing. games should have more sex to satisfy those sex craving trolls.

Pennywise5520d ago

wow. Some people should go outside more to experience life.

Graphics Whore5520d ago

It's alright, he's like that one dude says, he enjoys paying to use his internet twice, so he's naturally bitter.

dj555555555520d ago

I sure they will be fine as long as you kill them after you shagged them, I think thats what their into.

Heldrasil5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

You got it all wrong: It's kill first then shag...that's how we American's do it. Go south to Mexico and they like the donkey shows, but go north and I don't think the Canadians even have sex..especially those French Canadians. j/k

Foxgod5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

I am not American, but i agree sex got no place in games.
However, (Semi)Nudity does have a place in games, and should be more promoted.

The least thing i want to see in games, is seeing beings having sex with each other.
I do think however that skimpy dressed and nude woman are an enrichment to a game.

dj555555555520d ago

So penetrating a woman with a CG knife good

penetrating a woman with a CG penis bad???!?!?!?

Foxgod5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

violence happens in the streets.
sex happens in private, its not common for people to have sex in the open, when we agree with someone to have sex, we always get to a private place.

Violence however, occurs most of the time with bystanders being around.

So yes, sex in a game is pointless.
Porn is highly unrealistic compared to actual love making, and videogames shouldnt be turned into porno.

MovieScouse0075520d ago

Have you never seen a line of prostitutes on the street of any major, or minor for that matter, city?
Have you never seen a streaker at a sports event?
Did you not attend any Spring Break events, where women are paid in beads for a flash?
Are you a monk?
Are you human?
Do you know what that flacid object between your legs is even for?

Foxgod5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

I was born and raised in Amsterdam, i know more then enough that in the street your chance of encounters with violence and drugs is about 90 %.

While sex covers only 10%, you dont see people shagging everywhere, you do constantly see people using drugs and fighting.

If it was the other way around, then games would be full of sex right now, and be rated R if it contained violence.
Its all about reflecting our society, and its value's.

If you fail to understand that, then your <25.

@below
Yes that Amsterdam, there are a bunch of streets where woman are sitting behind windows, however because of our human nature, you dont intend to take children there, you rather leave them at home.

Problem is violence is in everybody, even in children, so its impossible to shield them from violence, thats why violence is generally more accepted then sex.
But hey, if you think its OK to take a kid into a street full of half naked woman, suit yourself, here its considered sick.

@even lower,
No, i am not saying its ok t hat people get robbed, i am merely stating the way it goes, and what human nature is like.

MovieScouse0075520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

You mean the same Amsterdam where women sit in windows selling sex on the street?
And you still want to argue that sex is private?

CHILDREN!
When the f@*~ did children creep into this conversation? We were talking about games.
I would never allow a child to play GTA IV but as an adult (over 25 you patronising fool) I feel that the game has been hamstrung by puritans. The whole argument is that sex is NOT worse than violence but that rather violence is worse than sex?
Violence should never be accepted with a shrug in the wider world. But games are a fiction, an alternate world where we can exorcise, to use a religious metaphor just for you, our frustrations and inner anger as well as exercise our lateral thinking and pretend to be in the fantasy worlds of our choice. Notice the use of the word choice. All games are rated and reviewed, chances are if there is any sexual content in a game it will be discussed in the various reviews that every game is subject to, so you can make the CHOICE not to buy it if it offends your sensibilities. But do not impose your personal impossible morality on the world. Nobody has the right to say what I can or cannot watch, play or listen to. I live in the UK where we truly have freedom and where our opinion won't result in us getting chased out of town at the end of a shotgun, more violence!

Ju5520d ago

"violence happens in the streets.
sex happens in private"

Best quote ever. So, you are saying, its OK, if someone gets robbed on the streets, or raped, or murdered. Because this all happens in public. Right ? But people have sex in private. Didn't know that all criminals are show offs.

No Way5520d ago (Edited 5520d ago )

"Problem is violence is in everybody, even in children, so its impossible to shield them from violence, thats why violence is generally more accepted then sex." Ha. Okay.

And, everybody will experience sex at one point or another.. even children..

Venomish5520d ago

from people responses (the disagrees), we can conclude that there many who just want to watch some sex.
if you want sex watch porn
if you want violence/blood play vidoegames/watch movies

kingme715520d ago

The only thing you can safely blow in a game is someones head off.

Foxgod5520d ago

Well, its human nature.
In the prehistoric we smashed someone's skull in, in public, then we dragged the female back to our cave.
We didnt ravage the female on the same spot we smashed the other dude his skull in.
Instead humans went to a private spot after the violence.

Where are These Missing VR Games?

As is they're coins down a sofa, some announced games seem to just disappear. So just where are these missing VR games?

anast45d ago

There wont be enough demand until the tech gets better and more affordable.

ApocalypseShadow45d ago

The article is more concerned with where the announced games are. Not about VR demand.

Even with my thoughts on Facebook, they did supposedly sell over 20 million headsets. Not that I think that many are still using their Quest headsets. But even if it's only 10 million users and 5 million are interested and able to play GTA SA, that's still a lot of consumers and a lot of sales.

It just comes down to why these developers are taking so long. Is something like GTA canceled? Is it being held back for a future event? It's not like there's competition in the stand alone space. And now that I have a Quest 3 myself, I'm wondering as well what's the hold up.

Profchaos45d ago

For GTA SA
Meta made a lot of budget cuts and cancelled a fair few exclusive game contracts we don't know if this was cancelled but it's possible and this was announced prior to the release of GTA definitive edition which was slammed and eventually moved to be supported in house by Rockstar.

Since then we have just gotten the mobile versions a d they are actually the best way to play the definitive edition unfortunately the consoles never got a retrospective patch to implement the improvements they made in the mobile games.

But for VR we know a VR mode was found in the definitive editions game files thanks to data miners so seeming it was meant to be using the definitive edition as a base given its ue4 that makes sense. And the mode is there right now (some Polish may be required still) I would assume this is ready to go but meta got cold feet and cancelled it given the games reputation.

I do hope Rockstar forge ahead and still just launch it anyway on psvr2 as it's a game I've loved since day 1 on PS2 I'll even tolerate the de version to get it in VR

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9555d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro54d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot54d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx55d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188155d ago (Edited 55d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9555d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp54d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg54d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion54d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
