PEOWW: Killzone 2 Review

The FPS market has become over-saturated in recent times with the release of one identikit shooter after another. It needs something to progress the genre and unfortunately Killzone 2 isn't one of them. Ultimately the single player is unspectacular but as a package the multiplayer saves the game from becoming just another average shooter. Definitely a worthy purchase if you are interested in the online aspect, but if you are looking for a good single player experience then you will be left feeling disappointed.

"but if you are looking for a good single player experience then you will be left feeling disappointed"

your brain doesn't respond to "fun"

SiLeNt KNighT3999d ago

this guy couldnt even beat the first level. that was the most [email protected] talking ive ever heard with NO details to back it up. sounds like he watched the highlights section of xbox.com complaints for Kz2 and wrote them all into one [email protected] review. if theres nothing innovative about the single player what makes this dude love the MP so much? with every new fps released it gets reviewed for what it is. when Kz2 got reviewed it needs to reinvent the genre. the single player is better than any other fps ive ever played and the online is just as exceptional. im happy to accept a review with any score as long as they give valid reasons to back it up, but when its just a bunch of bs mushed up into concurrent sentences no true gamer would take this guy seriously.

review= 2/10

Kz2= 10/10

36 review on the 360
7 review on the PS3

Maximum score given for any of the 7 PS3 titles was a 8, and that's including titles like KZ2, Flower, LBP, WipeoutHD!!! Metacritic score for those titles were 9.1, 8.8, 9.5, 8.7...

Take those review for what they are worth... The guy probably doesn't even own a PS3...

peacesquid3999d ago (Edited 3999d ago )

Real Gambler is a liar.

Wipeout got a 9. LBP got a 10.
you're reading the secondary score.

Also...

MGS4 got a ten. So go away you ridiculous fanboy.

Thugbot1873999d ago

Wow, get over it. It's this guys opinion/point of view of the game and last time I checked you are allowed to have both. If you don't like his review don't listen to it. This review isn't affecting KZ2's sales...

It's like if anyone disagrees that everything PS3 is killer then you guys try to drown it out with hate speech, giving the site and fans of Sony a bad rep.

crazy-eyez-killah3999d ago

I'm all for opinion but how can he say "if you are looking for a good single player experience then you will be left feeling disappointed. "

I bought it for the singleplayer.. - and I wasnt dissapointed.

Arnon3999d ago

What do you mean "How can he say that"?.. The single-player story is damn mediocre. Gameplay is pretty good. But the experience all together? Not really.

If you want.. I CAN back his statement up.

The Story of Killzone 2:

-Lack of variety of enemies. All perform the same and have no special abilities whatsoever. Leaving you feeling unfulfilled.

-There is literally no momentum to the story. How can you enjoy some amazing explosion when you just did the exact same thing 5 minutes ago? Not to mention how it's jumping all over the place with very little detail.

-The script is mediocre. It has it's up's and down's. Which is all that really needs to be said about it.

-The dialog is TERRIBLE. And I'm saying this with an unbiased view on it. As I've literally done everything this game has to offer. The dialog is more immature than Gears of War 2. Not only that, but it doesn't really have any good lines whatsoever.

-The gameplay is pretty fun. And even though it doesn't really offer anything "amazing", it still delivers for a good shooter. Aside from the graphics and lighting, that is.

beavis4play3999d ago

and Arnon, you didn't back up anything.......you threw out a bunch of descriptive words with no substance behind them. the "enemy" is an army. of course they would be the same.(just like nazis in WWII games). and why would you want the helghast to have "special abilities"? again, it's two armies fighting a war.......what don't you get about that concept?
your comments about script and momentum make no sense at all since you didn't explain WHY you felt that way.
really, it doesn't sound like you played the game.

Quote 1 from my Killzone 2 SP review:

"-There is literally no momentum to the story. How can you enjoy some amazing explosion when you just did the exact same thing 5 minutes ago? Not to mention how it's jumping all over the place with very little detail."

You do understand what momentum is referring to, correct? It refers to the fact that it keeps you engaged and surprises you and keeps you on edge. Another thing that I guess should be added even though I think I already said it, is that each level takes place in completely separate locations with very minor background elements to keep you on track.

Another thing I would like to add.. is that why would they NOT have special abilities? The SAME EXACT ENEMIES that are in multiplayer have special abilities that let you know which enemy is which. When playing single player, the enemies have different variations, but in the end, it's pointless, because they all perform the same. The medic does not heal, the Saboteur does not do any sort of sabotage, etc. The only enemy that is completely different are the Heavies. And I would DEFINITELY not relate this to realism (nazi's), considering it takes place on a different planet, with a sci-fi story aspect that has been placed in there. I'm not really sure how I can point it out any clearer.

I'm pretty sure that everything I have posted in both of these comments has been explanatory.

I also plan on playing through the story about 2 more times.

If you want, I can name every level off and each act of every level as well. I can also give you my PSN ID and show you that I only have 9 (10 if you count the Platinum) trophies to obtain.

The author must be a heavy drinker.

FPShooter3999d ago

I just finished the single player for the second time and I'm ready for the third.

"it needs something to progress the genre."

KILLZONE 2 is a FPS an a hell of a good one. Don't nock the game for not changing the whole genre, but it has set a high bar.

Agent VX3999d ago

Well, it is not too hard to finish the single player game for a second time around, it is very short and not too interesting, sort of like Halo 3's single player.

KZ2 strong suit is its online, which again falls short of COD4, but is very good never the less.

I thought they reviewed the game too low, it's better than an 6 and 7 they gave it. But KZ2 will fail to be the top FPS around, but a must have for PS3 owners.

Parapraxis3999d ago

"KZ2 strong suit is its online, which again falls short of COD4"
How so?

Sevir043999d ago

I really would like to know your reasoning on that one. because everyone who has owned both say KZ2 online is better. we all know it blows halo 3 out of the water, single player and multiplayer. but please explain your reasoning. as far as i'm concerned you've been one of the most prolific sony hater here on this site and it doesn't take a genius to see that... ^^

JHUX3999d ago

I will be getting kz2 next week, but from what I heard from everyone I know who owns it is that it's the best console fps they have ever played. That coming from multi console owners is enough for me to go out and buy it.

jeseth3998d ago

After playing KZ2 online for a week straight I went back to COD for some online action with my clan buddies and I immediately missed Killzone 2.

I LOVE COD4 and COD5 and they are great games BUT they feel like slow motion compared to KZ2. Everything about Call of Duty feels second rate now. KZ2 took everything about what was great about COD and shot it up with steriods. It set the bar.

Tell what FPS game has honestly INNOVATED anything really. DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D innovated, everything since then has just been an improvement. You people talk about FPS games like they are some complex idea. . . they're not.

Killzone 2 is the best console FPS ever. Period. It will eventually be topped, everything gets topped eventually. Play it and you'll be amazed. If you think COD4 is amazing and you're not impressed by KZ2. . . .then thats the give away that you've never played KZ2.

P.S. Agent VX is one of the biggest anti PS3 people on this site next to WhyDis. Get a life bro. I'm a PS3 owner but I'll be the first to say that Fable 3, Mass Effect, and Gears of War f'ing rock.
