There's a pretty substantial campaign to get through, and as varied as the missions are, they also get really tough. The skies will often be filled with massive numbers of planes – sometimes even tanks as well – and prioritising is a must. There's some slowdown when it gets really mental, but overall the visuals are impressive. What's disappointing is that they're not quite as polished as the Ace Combat series, with detailed planes but a ground that looks muddy up close.
But, in fairness, X360 would rather have a slightly ugly-looking ground if it means they get to dogfight in this varied, innovative, and action-packed reinvention of a decidedly stale genre.
