The So-La Sound Team over at Gust knows how to do RPG music. Although released nearly five years ago in Japan, the soundtrack still stands out one of the best in recent memory in the RPG genre. Full impressions of the soundtrack release explain why.
There are a lot of Atelier games out there, and Gust keeps adding to the lineup with new installments in the main series and spin-offs to keep track of. It is a lot to deal with. Also, the major installments tend to come out in trilogies, which share storylines and sometimes gameplay mechanics. One line might not be as interesting for specific players, but another could be a perfect fit.
Arland best. Couldn't finish Mysterious. Dusk is good. The ones before those are good but I prefer the 3d games
Pretty good article. The Atelier series is a very weird one. As each game have it's own ideas and can play vastly differently than another title even in the same trilogy.
But to get to know the franchise or at least what was the fundation of it. I would argue that the Arland is the best one, even though I prefer other sub-series even more.
Triverse writes, "trategy role playing games (RPG) have always been on the back burner for both developers and publishers in the console market. While the reasons for this are unclear, it is clear that gamers that don’t speak/read Japanese fluently have missed out on a lot of good strategy RPG’s over the years. Titles like Shining Force III Scenario II and III, Sweet Home and many others over the years will never be officially released in North America. That is a shame. For instance the title of our history article today is the first in its long lineage to make it to our shores, a series that actually started way back in 1997, in Japan that is."
I think the Atelier series would have been much better had they made them similar to the Atelier Iris games.
imho, still the best atelier game ever made.
Even the Alchemy system is much more complex then the ones found in nowadays atelier games.
Back then you had to mix individual items to create something new, instead of nowadays mixing wood/plant items with stone or metal items to make something.
Lots of big RPGs made 2005 a great year. Dragon Quest VIII, Guild Wars, Digital Devil Saga, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Jade Empire, a handheld Final Fantasy IV port made it so, along with many others. Plus, it was the year the PSP and Xbox 360 arrived in the gaming world.
