The New Game Censorship Battlefield

The games industry has won numerous cases against game censorship, but it can't sit passively and wait for a new anti-game onslaught, said attorney Lawrence G. Walters at GDC today.

"It's the blurring between reality and virtual reality that worries people, and brings lawmakers to action," said Walters during the GDC session, Censorship of Video Game Content: Time to Fight Back.

By showing examples of past failed legislation across various states, Walters detailed the successes of videogames as protected speech. However, he warned of possible missteps that the industry must be wary of down the line.
