Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is a DS remake of the first game of the franchise. It's a straightforward turn-based tactical roleplaying game.
The game introduces Marth, prince of Altea, who flees his kingdom from the opposing Gra army. He's sent to Talys where he will gather a force to reclaim his kingdom some day.
FE doesn't have anything different from many DS tactical RPG titles. My beef with the game is that it places characters in a predetermined spot at the start of every chapter/match. It also randomly allocates additional stat points when a unit levels up. Players should be able to decide where they want to place their units and/or determine what stats their characters should excel in. The gameplay is simple: select a unit, move him/her to a space, wait or commit an action.
BLG writes: "The Fire Emblem games are a storied part of Nintendo’s history. Debuting only in Japan in 1990, it gave the first Nintendo consoles an enjoyable fantasy RPG-strategy experience. With 2003’s Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the series made its debut in North America (Europe and Australia got a 2004 release). Since then, the franchise has been a mainstay on every Nintendo system."
I still own Fire Emblem POF and RD. Those entries are uber pricey now. I wish they would bring back the transforming units from those games. Radiant Dawn was pretty hard too but at least you could save before each turn. Saved me the trouble of having to redo many a map due to unlucky enemy crits. lol
Thracia 776, Heroes and Warriors are all awful. I ignore them when discussing Fire Emblem altogether
Top 5:
1. Awakening
2. Three Houses
3. Blazing Blade
4. Sacred Stones
5. Path of Radiance.
I've played most of the others, but they didn't really hook me.
Stay away from Shadows of Valencia and the DS remakes.

There are a lot of animal-people in the Fire Emblem series! These are different races who transform into actual animals in battle, while occasionally maintaining some of these features while in their humanoid forms. Hearing about laguz or taguel can be confusing, especially since these races are not universal and may only be present in a few select entries.
I love Fire Emblem but come on make a new one with some new ideas please.
Edit: The original came out with the idea of characters dying permanently, but that is still it's main selling point. All reviews say OMG! characters are gone forever!!11! They need some new ideas to spice it up.
The game is awesome, but the problem with a remake is that more often than not it's not bringing anything new to the table. Like the guy above me said, this remake doesn't add anything fresh to the title - it's just a rehash of the original game.
That's poor form.
Yeah, this is pretty surprising coming from a company based on innovation from Nintendo. I guess everybody's got to use a cop out some time.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon....you either love it.....or you hate it.
Wow yer Nintendo how could you remake a game that hasn't been released any where except Japan and the main character happens to be in one of your other series and nobody knew he was, laziness I tell you!/sarcasm
It's pretty clear the remake isn't about being some new ideas, it's about actually introducing Marth to the west in his native setting.
