Halo Wars: 7 Things Parents Should Know

WhatTheyPlay writes: "Microsoft's Halo shooter franchise has proven to be the most popular game series on both the Xbox and Xbox 360, and after three iterations, the new game in the series; Halo Wars delivers a wildly new iteration: a real-time strategy game. Rather than aim and shoot various alien baddies, players are tasked with creating and directing units in several larger scale skirmishes with an overhead view of the battlefield. Not only does Halo Wars deliver a very different Halo experience than gamers are used to, but it comes with a lesser ESRB rating than the previous "Mature" rated games in the series."

the commercials sure dont help emphasize the fact that its not either.

bassturd3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

you know all the uninformed 12 year olds are gonna eat this game up. Then get home and start playing it and go "wtf?". They will hate it....yes, they will loath it. But when asked if they like it? "OMG BEST GAME EVAR!!!!!!"

not that the game is bad or anything...but, ya, RTS Halo...cmon, slap Halo on an RTS to get some sells huh?

now commence the 12 year old Halo fanatic disagree attack on me!!!!

RememberThe3573543d ago

And while all these people are pissed off that it's not a shooter, I'll be loving that it's an RTS. I can't wait to get this one in the mail. GameFly FTW.

kewlkat0073543d ago

I'm sure the DEMO on XBL does....

Then again were hear worried about gamers buying a wrong

Nothing better to do..I suppose

How about: "well this game might get more into RTS on consoles because now you have a popular franchise involved?"

Of course we don't like the Xbox when it's games sell, based on..."well you can input whatever you want"

XGRaViSmOrSX3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

its not so much a matter of gamers buying the wrong game. its non-gamers and misinformed gamers getting duped by clever marketing and vague descriptions.

i could careless that its halo or on xbox. i just dont think its that fair for this game to be so vaguely marketed especially when its not anywhere near the same experience one would have in the typical halo game.

microsoft isnt dumb and know the selling power of the halo name. im just interested to see the trade in/turn around this game has. especially because of the fact that its not as advertised and because its an RTS on a console. both of which are working against it.

oh and in regards to the XBL demo. thats fine and dandy but as we just recently found out there is a HUGE chunk of the 360 market that doesnt have XBL or a way to get the demo.

JokesOnYou3543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

So save us your fake azz, "I'm worried about young kids being fooled into buying Halo Wars" story, awww what a thoughtful sdf member you are....the damm demo has been available for weeks, so tell us what "Halo lover" doesn't play Halo3 online? or at the very least doesn't talk to other friends who love I'm sure they can access the demo, which is why it was the most downloaded demo ever on xbl, aaah but thats just a weird coincidence huh? and first sony loyalist try to say its just the name thats going to sell Halo Wars, but then you want us to believe that these same *un-suspecting Halo lovers no nothing about Halo Wars except its another Halo game. lmfao, stop the hate your post sounds like you cut & pasted it from a sdf propaganda site. Try harder.

JaggedSac3543d ago

LOL. These comments are absolutely atrocious. How about someone turning the damn box over and looking at the back. That would probably end the argument there. Unless of course people just spend $60 on whatever.

But, lets take a look at the marketing. Demo, magazine previews for over a year, magazine ads with in-game pictures, commercial that tells you there is a demo, reviews, previews, the INTERNET. Yeah, I am sure there are going to be people duped into buying this game. If you believe that, I have some great real estate you should buy.

velaxun3542d ago

wow.... I admit that it's does seem kinda difficult to mistake this for halo 4, you'd have to be pretty dumb. Turning over the box is all you'd need to do, however JOY, Open Zone's thataway ==> No one is playing SDF over here

I've seen a couple of different Halo Wars commercial and none of them reflect that the game is an RTS.

In fact, one of them even makes the game look like a third-person shooter--the one that shows a soldier shooting a machine gun from the back of a jeep as it weaves between debris.

Instead, it's a lot of great-looking pre-rendered footage that shows insane fighting. But none of it shows actual RTS gameplay.

While I don't doubt that a majority of people KNOW that it's an RTS, don't be surprised if there are some articles popping up on here that reflect the whinings of the ignorant masses as they discover it's not a FPS.

Cajun Chicken3543d ago

Bound to happen. Trade-in-a-plentys.

soxfan20053543d ago (Edited 3543d ago )

Isn't that why MS released a demo over a month ago? So ANYONE can try before they buy?

Sounds like PS3 fanboys are desperately hoping for something to derail a strong 360 release.

RememberThe3573543d ago

But you got to admit that there are a lot of people who don't "try before they buy".

Although I'm pretty damn sure I'm going to like the game, I'm not sure that the massive Halo fanbase will feel the same way.

-EvoAnubis-3543d ago

Come on . . . leave the bullsh!t out for a minute. Do you really mean to tell me you find nothing deceiving about the Halo Wars commercials?

You know as well as I do that most of the fanbase won't bother playing the demo . . . it's Halo; they think they know what to expect. True, it's their bad for not doing the homework, but the commercial does nothing to make them think they NEED to do any homework.

thereapersson3543d ago

Come on, Soxfan, you know as well as the rest of us do that people buy anything with the Halo name on it these days. Have you even seen the commercial?

You can guarantee that whoever watches that will run out and buy it without thinking twice. It doesn't even give away the fact that it's an RTS!

Id like to see more articles telling parents What to expect maybe then we would stop seeing so many lawsuits

lord_of_balrogs3543d ago
