Along Came an Indie: Amnesia: The Dark Descent & Custom Stories

StickSkills said, "What Frictional has succeeded in making reminds me of the literary world’s Lovecraftian mythos. Assets created for Amnesia are used to create custom stories, a fancy name for mods, much in the same way that H.P. Lovecraft created an abstract collection of ideas that his fellow writers could use. In addition to crafting what are easily some of the scariest games of the past decade, they opened up innumerable possibilities for fans of the genre to make stories of their own. Frictional’s official site even has a wiki set up to answer common questions regarding their engine. But first, it’s important to know what Frictional does right with their own creation, Amneisa: The Dark Descent."

I dont scare that easy, the only game i can really think of that did scare me some was the original Silent Hill, Dead Space freaked me out, kept me on edge but it didnt really "scare" me, i knew what to expect, Silent Hill though was a different kettle of fish

I must of been young when i played it, 14-15 maybe, i do remember diving over the sofa to turn the lights back on

i kinda thought fear2 was scary as hell with the lights turned off and the volume turned up on a stereo system. the equipment (tv/speaker) sometimes make some of the games better/ more immerse.

An article on N4G surfaced a few weeks ago regarding survival horror and my selection then still applies now.

oh yeah that game was great when it came out, omg imagine a vita port.. O_O.

That school level was freaky. Also one of the best schools put into a video game only rivalled by DS2's.

Nothing has changed..

The original Resident Evil launched the genre..

The first two Silent Hills took it to a new level

The original Fatal Frame and still the hands down champ (IMO) was so beyond scary that people couldn't finish it.

The original and best F.E.A.R. introduced PC and later console owners to Alma and some genuine scares packed into a shooter.

Condemned as a launch for the 360..still one of the most underrated horror gems ever

The original Dead Space was sci-fi horror at it best..one of the best games this gen

Alan Wake..classy and smart shot in the arm for horror fans..deserves accolades..

Just my take as a huge horror buff..

Silent Hill 1-3 and Fatal Frame 1-3 are the scariest games I've ever played.
I think the Japanese are the best when it comes to slow tense disturbing horror.

WeskerChildReborned4698d ago

I've seen some pretty scary games on PC that i would love to try out but i gotta wait for my PC :(

Play Amnesia: Dark Decent at night, with headphones and the lights turned out. That game scared the bejesus out of me.

ATi_Elite4698d ago (Edited 4698d ago )

1. Amnesia: The Dark Decent

1. SLender

2. Silent Hill

3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl (all the under ground Levels are spooky as HELL)

SLender may soon be Number one by itself if I get courage enough to finish it!!!

Something is WRONG with SLender. I think the game is Possessed! I Never have jumped so much from a game.

I could never complete Realms of the Haunting, it was just too damned scary for me at the time. I was actually too afraid to load up the disk o.0

GTRrocker6664698d ago (Edited 4698d ago )

Fatal Frame 2 for serial. I played the game once and never finished or played it again because it scared the crap outta me. Im a Pussy if I don't get to carry a gun in a horror game

johnsonbat4698d ago

Haze, for all the wrong reasons.

Morgue4698d ago

The only thing scary about that game was that I actually paid full price it. Then got the DLC maps for it.

Morgue4697d ago

Bought it when it was first came out.

megalonagyix4698d ago
