"I got something to say about western RPGs too. Do something to the grotesque character designs.
Even if I can marry or have sex with the character in-game, if the biitch looks like a freaking monster, I would have to kill her!"

Jeez, lol

Foxgod3566d ago

And that comes from the land of tentacle rape, bukkake, poop/puke porn etch.

TheColbertinator3566d ago

Its a stereotype Foxgod.Just like many in the world think we are violent and deal with each other like in the movies(John Wayne,Sylvester Stallone, the Governator)

Hell no we don't. Say that again and your face will meet my fists, Joe. I hope age hasn't slowed you down since Vietnam.

'こっちも洋RPGに言いたい。あの感情移入しにくいグロキャ ラデザインを何とかせい。結婚とかセックスとか出来てもモンスター 顔の女じゃ殺したくなるわ

God.. that make me fall.. xD

Timesplitter143566d ago

You sir should travel to the lands of 4chan. You have no idea of what is said on this forum

MisterNiwa3566d ago

4chan? Japan has 2channel. I dun like 4chan, but i like those Black Border Pictures, they always make me laugh, well not always, but there are real diamonds that make me laugh everytime i look at them..

Aww cmon, im a dude who likes to laugh, i cant be bothered by stuff they say, because i like JRPGs the way they re, i even wanted to stop my preorder of Star Ocean 4 because of that CGI sh!t xd...

Well cant do anything bout it, but that made me laugh tears. :D

"Dragonquest: enter the shop, check the wardrobe, obtain item.
Fable: enter the shop, check the wardrobe, you get arrested. Or
enter the shop, make the store owner drunk, obtain item. Or
leave a dead body at the door, the owner freaks out and leave, obtain item." Hey man, pretty precise!

LMFAO!

thewhoopimen3566d ago

That line totally cracked me up.. and it's so true. I look at the female charc from gears of war 2 and the only thing i could think of was, 'whotf designed that ugly b***h?!!' Lara Croft still looks like she came out plastic surgery freak show as well.

Western games do have ALOT to work on in terms of making more appealing characters. Prince of Persia was a pretty good start... but that is more anime influenced then original western.

Kami3565d ago

that is nasty stuff but what really bothers me is the loli sh1t that they like. f-fing pedos

thewhoopimen3565d ago

right... and America brings two girls one cup...

I mean seriously kami, what does that make us?

FrankenLife3565d ago

I love 4chan. If I could read and write japanese I would love 2chan. B is everything that is right and wrong with the internet all at the same time coming at you full blast. Boxxy is an example of the wrong.

Bob Dole3565d ago

Bob Dole would like to make babies with that chick from Uncharted.... he can't remember her name. Bob Dole assumes she doesn't have one.

Really interesting article. They think we only play FPS games and we think they only play RPGs where dudes look like girls.

This is a good comment

"Don't make it for foreign countries. 2. Don't try to kiss foreign gamers' asses. 3. Don't think/say it's ok as long as it sells well in foreign countries. It's a JRPG, so make it for Japan"-Japanese guy

TOO PAWNED3566d ago

Those games are called Jrpgs for a reason, they are mean for JAPANESE market. If you want play it, if not shut up!
I agree with them that art in fable 2 and Fallout 3 is awful, gross.

What I like about WRPGs :
- Character customization/developpement
- Choices
- Made for adults and often carries strong philosophical or ethic messages
- Unique items
- Real-time combat

What I like about JRPGs :
- Memorable storyline
- Strategic combat
- Minigames

What I don't like about WRPGs :
- No memorable stories. It's a shame, because there would be ways of making good storyline with these games.

What I don't like about JRPGs :
- Too kiddy and unrealistic. Characters always move and speak as if they were trying to look ''cool''.
- Atrocious character design (with a few exceptions)
- No customization at all. Everyone plays the exact same thing.
- There's always a f****** little sidekick character thingy that's meant to look cute (like the pig in Valkyria Chronicles) but ends up being really annoying.

Foxgod3566d ago

Play mass effect, the story from that game was so awesome =D
And yeah, kids in rpg's are plain stupid.

Alex_Mexico3566d ago (Edited 3566d ago )

Oh c'mon, the pig from V.C. really? I know what you mean bu the "cute sidekick" but the pig is only there for a couple of cutscenes and never comes back for you to see it. Not even on the ending. While I did found it kinda stupid and unnecesary it wasnt there nearly enough for me to find annoying.

thewhoopimen3566d ago (Edited 3565d ago )

Hey Timesplitter. Great points, but let me point out where your perception is different from whats seen on the other side. Since I'm really familiar with both cultures let me play the devil's advocate.

What I like about WRPGs :
- Character customization/developpement

(Agree but even when customized they can come across as generic to most jrpg gamers. I mean the hair choices, outfits (if given) are all pretty standard mill affair. That's why jrpg designers go and come up with something impossible/wild looking.)

- Choices (this I do agree. jrpg shouldn't be so linear)

- Made for adults and often carries strong philosophical or ethic messages

(I think your gripe is half true only insofar as translation is concerned. Let's just try to recall that asian documentated civilization is generally about 8-10 times older than American history/culture and about 2-4 times older than European. Much is lost in nuance and flavor when coming to English (just like eskimos have 11 words for snow vs. English's 3-4.) Asian philosophy is governed by subtlety and poetic forms that hardly translate well to a low level direct language like English. (this is from marketing courses I took in college so don't take this an offensive. Low level refers to how straightforward/blunt the language is in communication). I'm sure you'd be surprised how subtly nuanced Asian philosophy is in terms of grays if you understood the language. Most times it gets rounded up or down to become "this is bad, this is good" in english, by the time you read it in a jrpg. For example a person who is a bad influence to another in Japanese would be something along the lines of, (horrific translation on my part) 'shu ni majiwareba, akaku naru' or a cloth(person) even lightly stained in vermillion dye can become red.'

When you look at a white cloth being dyed, you ever watch how the dye spiders and bleeds into the pristine cloth? Well that's how japanese view influence of the product of environment/ppl. It neither points at good or bad and is also an instruction on how even the slightest touch can taint or how deeply dark a person can become, etc (there is more).

- Unique items (what do you mean by unique? guns? most of the weapons I've seen in wrpgs are the same in eastern ones... In truth there are just as much or even more weapon varieties in asia... and most of the ones u are familiar with either came from the middle east or asia. Guns existed in china 100-200 years b4 they showed up in the west. The crossbow from the middle east/china, etc)

- Real-time combat (i think that's coming around more in general, but it did exist in secret of mana rpgs, etc.)

What I don't like about JRPGs :
- Too kiddy and unrealistic. Characters always move and speak as if they were trying to look ''cool''.
(Most asian gamers find western games unrealistically violent (heads blowing up... come on...), with overly macho badboy characters (like one guy mentioned) and very bullheaded/a total d1ck) All in the name of 'cool'. same idea.

- Atrocious character design (with a few exceptions) (The word atrocious could be thrown every which way. I find western takes of asian designs grotesque and overly simplified (*shudder jade empire). As i'm sure asian takes on western design could be just as poorly received. That's just a matter of taste.

- No customization at all. Everyone plays the exact same thing.
(what you call customization, many in japan would call boring choices and this I can agree with them. Often times game designers or artists aren't fashion designers or hairstylists lol. The designs are cliched and drab and all are hardly inspired. I wish i could find a source on this but there was an article about how even european Fashion Designers around the world draw inspiration from each Final Fantasy that comes out.... not when oblivion or fallout3 come out.)

- There's always a f****** little sidekick character thingy that's meant to look cute (like the pig in Valkyria Chronicles) but ends up being really annoying.
(Asians are communal... going at things alone in any game can be daunting, lonely, and feel impossible. Oblivion feels that way, fallout3 does too. It would be nice to have party members. Why do you think fable added a dog as your sidekick? Japanese like cute sidekicks, Americans like animals... what's the difference?)

Obama3565d ago

the pig in VC only appears like 2 or 3 times so it really doesn't bother me much. It even amuses me since it is a flying pig.
