Sony Blackballs Kotaku

Earlier today Kotaku posted a rumor story on the site about a possible announcement of a new technology coming to Sony's Playstation 3.

The Playstation Home, they reported, would be an intriguing blending of the Mii and achievements, allowing gamers to create a virtual world for customized avatars and then decorate that space with items unlocked through game play.

In so doing, Sony asked Kotaku not to publish the story, first nicely, then not so much.

"Sony Computer Entertainment of American representatives reminded us that the story was a rumor and then went on to say that publishing it could harm our professional relationship with them."

Good for Kotaku. Well done gentlemen, well done. I'd buy you all a beer if I could.

I'm not sure that I get the attached image, though. Who is that supposed to be...Abe Lincoln?

wow sony just when everyone thinks you cant dig yourself into a deeper hole you always find a way congrats

It's sensitive information that any company would want to keep journalists quiet about. Either way, Phil Harrison already hinted at this during an interview yesterday when he talked about the drawbacks of unrealistic Mii-style avatars. Creation of a Myspace for Playstation Users, so to speak.

That Sony is copying Nintendo and Microsoft AGAIN, why would they blackball a web site for publishing info. that Phil Harrison already "hinted" at?

Edit:
True Eclipse, maybe I was a little harsh. But where's the innovation? Show me something new besides Blu-Ray.

While I certainly have no love for the PS3, I think that the idea of this "PS3 Home" thing, having customizable avatars in a room with items unlocked through playing PS3 games, has potential. Kind of a "best of both worlds" scenario. It sounds more like Sony would be improving upon Nintendo and Microsofts ideas, not strictly copying.

Heyy, that's like living in China! The government controls the news media.

Sony is a corporation.

TheGoodMART6264d ago

No it's not Sony isn't the government its a corp

What are you, illiterate? You're just stating what I've already posted.

GaMr-6264d ago

And im not flaming DJ or Mart but I think DJ is Phil Harrison and TheMart is Peter Moore. Have you ever seen those two go at it. No one can convince me otherwise. Its cool though watching those two go at it is one of the reasons I joined N4G.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis17h ago

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv721d 12h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.
