THQ: Focus on fewer, better core titles

"In an analyst conference call today, publisher THQ reaffirmed its commitment to lowering costs, focusing on a smaller and stronger stable of core titles, and returning to profitability.

"Clearly, this is one of the most challenging holiday retail environments that I've experienced in my 18 years at THQ," said CEO Brian Farrell as he kicked off the call, referring to current market conditions as well as a competitive gaming landscape.

"Given continued economic weakness," he said, the company will continue reducing its development and marketing spending in various areas, as outlined in its third fiscal quarter results."
