PS3 on US shelves a good sign?

The amount of PlayStation 3 units on store shelves throughout North America is due to the strength of Sony's manufacturing and supply chain, according to SCEA chief executive Jack Tretton.

While critics have suggested the next-gen console is not a hit with consumers due to the fact it hasn't sold out in many locations, Tretton has stated it's because the company has never been this well organised.

"It's a testament to the fact that we've been able to manufacture and ship units on a greater pace than any previous console," Tretton said in an interview with Reuters.

I sell one or two a week if we are lucky. We sale out of the Wii's as soon as we get them in the door & for the 360's we sell at least three a day.

indicative that they're not selling? Do people actually expect all of the CN$700 machines to magically vanish the moment they enter the retail outlet??? You're not buy a pack of gum, you know.

I'm not sure about your area, but here in the Greater Toronto Area, it's still rare to see a PS3 sitting at the big box electronic shops. And when there is stock, it's usually just one, with empty space surrounding it to spare for more. As with the Wii (which is still even harder to come across), flyers aren't even promoting availability of the console, because they're often in short supply. Furthermore, no matter to which store I go, there is always a consistent buzz and miscellaneous ramblings from customers concerning the PS3.

I must admit though, I saw one exception to the aforementioned stock issue actually yesterday, when upon dropping by Costco I came across an almost full skid of 60 gig PS3's bundled with an extra controller and <aghh!> Genji: Days of the Blade. But it must have just been put there because there were none on display the day before. That bundle, by the way was CN$799.

(but Costco, what're you doing!...Genji???)
