Halo Studio lead producer Jason Pace has told VideoGamer.com that Microsoft sees the Halo franchise as its Star Wars, and hopes it will become just as prevalent in pop culture as the George Lucas conceived phenomenon.

I just bought Halo 3 this week, and it was alright. I really dont like how unbalanced the guns are though. I put almost a full clip with my smg into my friend and he didnt die. I also shot him 9 times with a battle rifle and he didnt die. I caught it all on tape and thats when I realized I wasn't crazy. Im taking it back and try to get some in store credit or something.

no offense, but you just suck at the game. SMG is not a very powerfull weapon, that's why you can duel wield it. The battle rifle on the other hand is pretty powerful. 4 shots to the head with a battle rifle will kill a guy. If you shot at him 9 times then I would have to say that maybe your just a terrible shot and need more practice.

I disagree though - obviously IV,V,VI are the greatest films of all time. I still get an adrenaline rush watching the Tantive being chased by the Star Destroyer at the start of IV and ive watched it over 200 times......

However the prequels were very decent too,sure Binks was annoying but the Darth Maul fight, the seduction of Anakin in 2/3 and the fight with 100+ Jedi on Geonosis were magical.

Halo might be MS's StarWars but will it bring such a huge cultural change like StarWars - im not so sure......though the Halo games are all bonafide brilliant.

You're forgetting that this will be MS handing the franchise to other devs instead of Bungie, because I think Bungie is done with Halo after ODST.
The slow decline of Crash Bandicoot's quality and design once ND left the franchise comes to mind.

Love it or hate it, there's no denying that MS milked the hell out of Halo. I think I saw a Halo themed breast pump at K-mart just prior to Halo 3's release. I don't think any video game has been as heavily marketed as Halo 3 was, and in that respect it very much reminds me of the Star Wars franchise.

The Halo franchise is without a doubt a massive success story for micro/Bungie, so much so it has become an ICON within the industry commonly referenced whenever newly released shooters are discussed, its commonly found at gaming tournaments and generates a fair amount of business outside of normal gaming channels.

It COULD have been, but Hayden Christen..dldfk had to be replaced and the scene of Vader getting chopped to bits and burned alive was too blatantly over the top.. it should have been subtle and dramatic (although a bit cliche) Vader should have been trapped out on a small island in the middle of the lava with no escape and Obi Wan gets away, they exchange words, Vader's last vain effort is to throw his lightsaber at Obi Wan from a distance but it is deflected "I hate you" and then the lava erupts and Vader simply vanishes in the smoke and fire and is recovered later... end scene.

The fact that they were able to create such a franchise is an incredible achievement and they deserve to milk it as much as they want

Nintendo did it with mario, sure they have their crap spin-offs like Mario and Sonic but they still keep the main franchise at a high quality just look at Super Mario Galaxy its the highest rated exclusive this gen

The same will likely happen with Halo the main series will remain great but the spin-off will be crap (except Halo Wars) but sell like crazy

Bungie created Halo, not MS, MS were merely the publisher. MS had no real input into the overall design of the Halo series, that was Bungie. Now that (I think) that Halo: ODST will be the swansong of Bungie with the Halo universe (since going independent from MS again), I think the franchise will be out of their hands and the spirit will be slowly lost.

Halo3: ODST may be Bungie's last Halo game, but if im not mistaken hasnt MS formed a new studio specifically for Halo games which has the lead Halo designer in it along with a bunch of other big name devs so i doubt it will lose its spirit

Bungie got the work, you don't see me worshipping SCE for publishing Uncharted, do you? I usually praise Naughty Dog as they developed everything involving the game SCE just published it.

MS did nothing to the importance of Halo, not at all, they just published it, Halo as a project existed before MS even set their hands upon it.

Ms didn't walk into Bungie's office and say;
"Hmm, that needs a little more purple there..."
"Change that art direction there."

Well think about it, if you have a cow wouldn't you? Milk(Halo) is on high demand. People want it. why shouldn't they make it.

Halo 3 came out a long time ago and it's still being supported, it's still on the 1st or 2nd position as the most played FPS game on consoles and probably including the PC.

Why should halo fans complain that years old game is still being patched, fixed, improved and extended? Why should people complain that their games are not abandoned by the developers and new maps and contents are released?

You sony leg humpers keep talking about "future proof" the PS2 and the PS3 is... why don't you name some PS2 games that you can still play on the PS2 online? I can name a ton from the original xbox.

Sony supports the hardware but abandons the games... which is what all gamers should care about.

Resistance and other PS3 game came around the time Halo 3 came out... where are all the updates, enhancements, fix, patches to keep the game fresh?

The PS3 is a disconnected experience where games are abandon months after their released and quickly replaced by other game or another iteration which will soon be forgotten.

I'm not a fan of the Halo franchise. For me, its been nothing special, and not really done much special when it comes to bringing things to gaming. People talk about alot of first person shooters being generic, and to me, that buzz word fits Halo perfectly. It does nothing special. Granted, what it does it does perfectly well, but i think there are better first person shooters out there that have been far better as a single player experience and better from a multiplayer perspective.

People may point at the sales figures, and i cannot deny its rather enormous success. Halo may be the Star Wars of the video game industry in terms of marketing, but the games themselves are not of Star Wars quality.

Well seems that halo did do something very special, and thats making the fps genre work on consoles. and im not saying that there werent any good fps' on consoles before halo. What im saying is that Bungie made playing fps on consoles feel natural.

and as for single player experiences...IMO Halo 3 had a very good campaign but thats also because I read the halo book and I like the story. But even if you take the story out and just left to the gameplay, Halo 3 was still really good. 4 player co-op, non-linear levels, good AI and most importantly continuity.

Halo though it is considered one of the best games made was one of the worst with horrible level designs, poor story, and horrible glitches. There is even several reviewers that referred to the game as "complete sh!t."

What people have to remember is that Frank O Connor is the head of Microsoft's Halo studio. Its like Hideo Kojima leaving Konami to work for Sony yet still making metal gear games, so if Microsoft give Frank O Connor total creative control on the franchise and he chooses which outside studios work on which titles the series should be in safe hands.
And with the Star Wars analogy, Empire Strikes Back is the best of the original trilogy, and Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequel trilogy so saying that the series got worse with each sequel is a bit out of whack.
