MS: Halo is our Star Wars

Halo Studio lead producer Jason Pace has told VideoGamer.com that Microsoft sees the Halo franchise as its Star Wars, and hopes it will become just as prevalent in pop culture as the George Lucas conceived phenomenon.

Oh, you mean it's going to be milked to all hell with no reguards for quality?

Because that's what I think of when I think of Star Wars.

I probably would have picked a less milked franchise to compare to, to be honest, since Halo = money, but it's not yet been milked to hell.

GWAVE3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

LOL. I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the headline and thought "Like Star Wars? You mean it'll be milked to death, MS?"

MS touts their creativity and innovation so often. Sometimes I'd like to actually SEE it in the form of a new IP instead of yet another Halo game.

SSCOOLCHEA3597d ago

Well with me at least I have never seen a star wars movie and has never played HALO ...

Foxgod3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

Do you like metal gear ?
Because its gonna take a long time until there will be as much halo's as there are metal gears.

@edit for the disagree ers.

See how many platforms Metal gear had graced on compared to halo ?

lociefer3597d ago

ya it is like star wars , except it got crap story / crap graphics / being milked to infinity and beyoooooond

GWAVE3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

@ Foxgod

Metal Gear: first released in the middle of 1987. 11 games (and that's counting spin-offs) across multiple platforms by multiple companies in 22 years. If you narrow it down to games only relating to the main storyline arc, you have 7 games across 22 years, or one game every 3 years on average.

Halo Combat Evolved: first released at the end of 2001. 4 games in 7 years across two platforms by one company.

EDIT: Lol. Using expansions and unreleased games, are we Foxgod?

Watch me do it too!

- Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
- Halo 2 (Xbox)
- Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack (Xbox)
- Halo: CE (PC)
- Halo 2 (PC)
- Halo 3
- Halo Wars
- Halo 3: OSDT
- Halo MMO

OMG! Look at that! 9 games in only 7 years! See what happens when your trolling lacks facts? You get owned.

Foxgod3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

Check the full list above, including spinoffs and rehashes.

Far more then 4 titles in 7 years.
Average theres been one metal gear every year since 1987, theres been one halo every 2 years.

People who claim halo is milked after only three titles, and 2 more coming can eat their own dung.

PirateThom3597d ago

Why mention Metal Gear? This thread is about Halo and, if you'll notice, I defended Halo saying it hasn't been milked.

Foxgod3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

I dont think so, all the games i listed are released, and only 1 of them is an expansion, you just listed unreleased games and map packs, speaking of lame.

And yes piratethom, but i did agree with that, just not with the other doodles up there.
So it wasnt directed at you.

DJ3597d ago

Dude, why did you repeat so many MGS titles? Trying to make your list longer or something?

By the way, Subsistence and Substance weren't entirely new games either. Just special editions of MGS 2 and 3 (which you repeated 3 times each).

uie4rhig3597d ago

it will slow die.. hey this makes you think.. why did they choose 'Halo Wars' as the name :O!!!

JokesOnYou3597d ago

Wow, the Halo-hate is thicker than usual in this thread, lmfao talk about hypocrisy....ain't these the same kids who love FF, GT, MGS and so many other "milked" exclusives?; oh but I see spinoffs and sequels don't count when its associated with the ps logo, its OK jealousy can 'cause weird reactions=

bomboclaat_gamer3597d ago

hypocrites identified in this thread lol. keep raising ur ugly heads

Maddens Raiders3597d ago

LMFAO - i would feel sorry for these people if they weren't so brash.

Gawd this brand is falling off a cliff @ the speed of light.

hippo243597d ago

This I laughable, sure halo is MS star wars, Its a high quality game that is going to be used until the developers yell stop.

Personally I don't mind If they make a few more halo games because while the most recent edition hasn't been stellar, its far from bad and is generally fun to play.

I would also like to ask WHY THE HECK IS THERE A FAN WAR GOING ON, Did I miss the update that said being like star wars Is bad.

Rhoic3597d ago

- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Halo 2
- Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack - Is not a game. You can download them off of XBL.
- Halo: CE (PC) - Not a spin-off. Just a port.
- Halo 2 (PC) - Not a spin-off. Just a port.
- Halo 3
- Halo Wars
- Halo 3: OSDT
- Halo MMO - Cancelled

You're left with:

- Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
- Halo 2 (Xbox)
- Halo 3
- Halo Wars
- Halo 3: OSDT

There's been 5 different Halo games total. And since every one of you is a hypocrite and considers Halo 3: ODST not a real game, that makes it 4:

- Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
- Halo 2 (Xbox)
- Halo 3
- Halo Wars

Even though Foxgod's comment was completely irrelevant to the main topic, he is right. The Metal Gear franchise is a massively milked one. And yes, a lot of the Metal Gear games were released within certain time periods. Usually 4-5 at a time. That = Milking.

Try harder.

I just bought Halo 3 this week, and it was alright. I really dont like how unbalanced the guns are though. I put almost a full clip with my smg into my friend and he didnt die. I also shot him 9 times with a battle rifle and he didnt die. I caught it all on tape and thats when I realized I wasn't crazy. Im taking it back and try to get some in store credit or something.

Sean Ryno3597d ago

no offense, but you just suck at the game. SMG is not a very powerfull weapon, that's why you can duel wield it. The battle rifle on the other hand is pretty powerful. 4 shots to the head with a battle rifle will kill a guy. If you shot at him 9 times then I would have to say that maybe your just a terrible shot and need more practice.

NickIni3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

Tbh, Halo 3 is about 70% luck, 20% skill and 10% timing. =/

Cajun Chicken3597d ago

Not as good as Halo:CE, is it?

Man_of_the_year3597d ago

LOL - "I really dont like how unbalanced the guns are though." - are you kidding? The weapons in the Halo universe have always been considered the most and best balanced weapons in the FPS genre - except for the needler - in Halo 1 and 2 they were pretty usless unless duel weilded in Halo 2 - but Halo 3 up'ed its power to contend and is now a great weapon.

You sir know not what you speak of.

Marquis_de_Sade3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

Da Shredder, stop lying. 9 BR shots? Get real, 3 bursts to knock down shields and 1 to the head = dead. If you can't kill someone with a clip of an SMG, I'm going to assume you mean the Assault Rifle, either learn how to aim, or use it at its' intended range (mid to close).

That mean the next 3 games will be rubbish? First 3 'great', next 3 rubbish, thats the Star Wars way :(

JEDI WOLVERINE3597d ago

Ha ha - everyone says that the prequels were 'rubbish'!

I disagree though - obviously IV,V,VI are the greatest films of all time. I still get an adrenaline rush watching the Tantive being chased by the Star Destroyer at the start of IV and ive watched it over 200 times......

However the prequels were very decent too, sure Binks was annoying but the Darth Maul fight, the seduction of Anakin in 2/3 and the fight with 100+ Jedi on Geonosis were magical.

Halo might be MS's StarWars but will it bring such a huge cultural change like StarWars - im not so sure......though the Halo games are all bonafide brilliant.

Whoooop3597d ago

Halo Studio lead producer Jason Pace has told VideoGamer.com that Microsoft sees the Halo franchise as its Star Wars, and hopes it will become just as prevalent in pop culture as the George Lucas conceived phenomenon.

Translation: We're going to keep milking the F*CK out of Halo.

Foxgod3597d ago

O yeah, and thats a bad thing
Its bad that they are making another metal gear, its bad that they are making another final fantasy, and another mario, and another killzone, and another god of war.

Wouldnt the world be better without all those sequels ?

Cajun Chicken3597d ago

You're forgetting that this will be MS handing the franchise to other devs instead of Bungie, because I think Bungie is done with Halo after ODST.
The slow decline of Crash Bandicoot's quality and design once ND left the franchise comes to mind.

Whoooop3597d ago

@ Foxgod

Mention one game outside of Halo that has the marketing (milking) strategy that HALO has to be considered by MS their Star Wars??

Find me some Killzone 2 sneakers or a limited edition beverage (MD) with GOW in the cover...

We're talkin about real milking here mate, not games or sequels.

Foxgod3597d ago

What is bad about releasing merchandise ?
If you dont want it, dont buy it, but keep your trash talking to yourself.

Whoooop3597d ago

What's the problem with it?? none

I don't have a problem with them milking the franchise, I'm just saying that they are.

They are just milking the crap out of Halo. Now quit being a drama queen and move on.

If it offends you that HALO is probably the most hyped and milked franchise in gaming history then look for another hobby mate.

Anon19743597d ago

Love it or hate it, there's no denying that MS milked the hell out of Halo. I think I saw a Halo themed breast pump at K-mart just prior to Halo 3's release. I don't think any video game has been as heavily marketed as Halo 3 was, and in that respect it very much reminds me of the Star Wars franchise.

JokesOnYou3597d ago (Edited 3597d ago )

The Halo franchise is without a doubt a massive success story for micro/Bungie, so much so it has become an ICON within the industry commonly referenced whenever newly released shooters are discussed, its commonly found at gaming tournaments and generates a fair amount of business outside of normal gaming channels.

Unfortunately with success comes hate from the slaves of the "establishment", who are always lurking the web following everything about the franchise in their futile efforts to tell the world how bad it is, fortunately millions have played it for themselves and millions more will play future Halo franchise games. Notice I'm not refering to ps3fans or any gamers who simply do not see whats so special about Halo, I respect that just like I never saw anything great about FF, nah thats fine but I never followed FF news just to say I thought it was 'meh over and over again. Awww but its a sad life they live, those few, those pathetic haters screaming from the dark alleys, the cold streets, the lonely abandon rooms they inhabit, peering out waiting desperately for the "Halo killer" they've been promised. I say have mercy on them, its not their fault that life has been so unkind to them and SDF took advantage of their weakness, they loaned them a quarter at the local Arcade many moons past, its a debt they can never fully repay and long ago they sold their gaming souls to the mighty establishment; SDF abused their trust, warped their senses and now they are forever hardwired to hate what their master calls Public Enemy #1: Halo.

JOY

poopsack3597d ago

JOY man, i hope your not as serious about this as you sound, its kids (or teens that dont behave according to age) like you that make this "console war" as bad as it is. Your speaking about the people that dislike Halo as if they were some type of disease or something.

"foam at the mouth"

"Awww but its a sad life they live, those few, those pathetic haters screaming from the dark alleys, the cold streets, the lonely abandon rooms they inhabit, peering out waiting desperately for the "Halo killer" they've been promised. I say have mercy on them, its not their fault that life has been so unkind to them and SDF took advantage of their weakness"

really, seems more like the description of a crack addict, or a person with rabies, i realize your trying to be clever, but if your gonna criticize everyone that spends a huge effort trying to convince people that halo is a bad game, then maybe you shouldnt spend an equal amount of effort trying to prove them wrong, at the end of the day nothing changes, haters are haters, fanboys are fanboys.

JokesOnYou3597d ago

"really, seems more like the description of a crack addict, or a person with rabies,"

-nah, really? Well in that case I apopoligize for the confusion, I would never call anybody such terrible things....I don't know any of them personally so I have know idea whether or not they are on drugs or their medical condition but based on their comments alone I do indeed think my description of their behavior is accurate in reference to the Halo-haters on this site; or maybe I'm just full shiii, I have a vivid imagination and I thought it was funny as hell so I don't give a damm if it bothers them.

I think in a lot of ways they are right.. halo is almost like the star wars of video gaming.. it's pretty much influenced a whole subculture (albeit a negative annoying one.)
