Sony denies newest PS3 price drop rumor

Many rumors and speculations have been surfacing over the past few weeks about a price drop for the 80G PS3. Video game analyst Michael Pahcter stated that the PS3 would drop from $399 to $299, and even speculated that the Xbox 360 would follow suit short after. The most recent of rumor began when an online magazine reported that a Sony rep said the company would have a price cut on the PS3 to round out the Sony fiscal year.

With so many rumors, Sony was had no choice but to respond about the PS3 price drop. A statement issued by Sony stated, "There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 09, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumor or speculation."

Only time will tell when the next price drop will be, but Sony has guaranteed it will not be in March of 2009.

The story is too old to be commented.

A price cut would be nice but I don't see it happening anytime soon. The Yen is too strong for that to happen now. Let's see what happens around June/July.

...likewise the official quote was " March,". As someone who works with people in sales, you have to listen carefully to what people say. So for now and per this quote ONLY we can rule out the month of March a a month for a possible price drop.

The only people this would effect would be people who are on the fence and have not bought one yet. Correct me if I'm wrong but everyone on these forums sound like they have already made up their mind on which system they are going with and purchased it. So my question is this if you already have the system, why they hype for news that you got ripped off and spent "X" too much for a system. I was in the same boat with the 360 I spent $150 more then I would have if I bought the system now. I don't believe it matters who "wins" the generation you'll still have "X" games on the 360 and "Y" games on the PS3
