Xbox 360 HDMI Sound Issue Remains Unexplained, Unaddressed

Giz would love to tell you that the New Xbox Experience HDMI-related sound issue from November has been addressed, but that'd be a lie. More than two months and 23 pages of complaints later, it persists.

They should open the Xbox 360 and look at the HDMI port and look at the model it is. HDMI ports, especially the earlier models didn't have a cross-board standard as the HDMI 1.3+ they have today which also comes in mode A,B,C (C is the now standard). At the same time you have a difference between the voltage / amperage consumption of the earlier ports that have a tendency to not match pins #18 and #19.

This is only important to note if you are trying to use the latest tech on older models like 3D streaming from source to monitor for example.

Isn't the current 3 year deal only for RRoD? That disc eating problems aren't covered or separate?

The 3 year warranty is for RRoD only, the disk scratching issue has never been fixed other than to say "Don't touch the console when it's on. Matter of fact, don't look at it either or even breathe while in the same room." Nothing gets "fixed", it only gets band-aided or flat out not fixed.

i know, there seem to be only some people who have the issues, >.> odd since the 360 is made on a line, then they should be the same, funny how the HDMI port seems to be messing up in such odd ways.

doesn't mean that all produced products will be at the same quality! that's what yield ratio are for! if all of them are the same, all 360s should have already having RRoD by now - multiple times that is!

I have every LCD in my house connected to HDMI and including my 360. I have never heard of this problem until now and have not personally experienced it nor from friends. It may be a configuration problem with some peoples HDTV's. Most people fail to configure them properly.

There are different version of HDMI, possibly TV/amp with earlier version maybe having this issue. I know that some user manuals say HDMI is a working progress and may not work on some devices.

I've never had this problem and everyone I know that has a 360 has never had this problem. It sounds like something in the person(s) who are complaining's configuration and not the 360 itself. As "6" said, there are different kinds of HDMIs, but from old to new, I don't know anyone with this problem.

holy crap i thought there was something wrong with my tv! sound goes out for like a min and comes back on xbox! while playing online! just realized it never has happen while playing ps3.

But only if i start a download (demo,video,etc) and then play a game. If nothing is downloading then no sound problems.

Bought my xbox in December and I haven't experienced this once. I have it hooked up through HDMI to an Onkoyo receiver then out to a sony 46 inch lcd.

Ive experienced this problem alot actually. At first I too thought it was my tv. But my ps3 never did this too me. Then I just figured it was my 360, which didn't make sense to me cause I just bought this one in Nov. Then I couldn't get 1080p out of it either. I called customer support and told me my 360 was messed up. I fixed the problem just using my component cables though. 5.1 sound is great with the optical out coming from it too.

Unless the console catches on fire or something, I doubt Microsoft will try to fix it. They tend to sweep these incidents under the rug, kinda like the E74 error.

I think it has to do with the HDCP handshakes. The PS3 had a problem early on with Westinghouse TVs hooked up through HDMI.

HDCP just adds another layer of complexity and another place for problems.

I don't have this problem with my 360 hooked up with HDMI on a repeating Onkyo receiver. But, I hope that it gets fixed for those who are having the problem.

When I am using switch...If i turn on my xbox and then switch to the appropriate video channel, it wont be hd or sound....Without the switch, no issues...

I know its the switch because if I turn on my ps3 and then turn to the video channel, then I wont get picture...
