ITavisen (Norwegian) Killzone 2 review

ITavisen summary:
We thought last fall that Resistance 2 was going to be the best shooter on the PlayStation 3, but now it has been tilted easily of the elegant throne. Killzone 2 is, as we previously said, not necessarily original, but very polished, thoughtful, made with love and dedication. And thats what we like, a must-have game for every PS3 owner.

It equals 83%, but this is why I hate scores that aren't out of 10. 4/5 isn't a bad score, but 8/10 makes it sound worse than it is.

Technically, about 83%. Problem with low figure scores, a 4/6 would be 66% so theres far to large a margin between figures. + or - 1 point represents 16%. Same with 5/5 scores. Either way the important thing is whats in the reviews, not just a simple mark.

I knew it, when it's Orginal, then it like "wow, it deviates too much from our taste" and when it not Orginal, then it's like "Wow, we want something completely different from shooters now"

and WTF with comparing Gears EVERY STEP of THE WAY.

I don't understand that either. Killzone 2 is at least as original as Gears of War, but most reviewers didn't even mention that fact in their Gears reviews. I am sick of the inconsistency.

About the score, it's always a better idea looking at the meta then converting this score on a 100 scale, just like when a 5/5 score becomes a perfect 100, so at the end it evens out on meta.

The only reason reviewers should rate with .1 intervles is so fanboys can fight with other fanboys.

I love the 5 point system. Its simple and to the point. 4-5/5 = Buy
3/5 = rent

Plain and simple. But people here love to gloat over scores.

Let me quote from wikipedia:

I tried no more than a week-and-a-half ago - to no avail. Perhaps by "compatible", you mean browseable?...and yes, on a few occasions, the browser and/or N4G crashed my PS3 to the point of having to manually reboot it.

Very poor score system, scoring a game out of 6 varies the score too much. 6/6 is 100 while 5/6 is 83. Very big difference. In my eyes the best systems are 100 point scale, out of 10, or decimal points up to 5 or 10.

Its a bit like getting lost in translation. For example if you translate someting from one language to another, the words are right but you've lost the meaning because the 2 languages dont have an exact equivelant.

5/6 to them might be an excellent score, say 9 out of 10. It is only one point short of perfect afterall, the problem is when converted to our language (scoring system) its 83% and not that good.

Just a thought.

I'm Norwegian and what you are suggesting is right. If you do the math thing and convert it to a 10 or 100 scale it seem worse than it does to us Norwegians.

To us 5/6 is a great score, and a must buy. More like a 85-90 score if you were to try and convert it in spirit...

you totally misunderstood what i was trying to say. there's nothing wrong with foreign sites, but you'd never see this site's skate 2 review on here. the only time you see obscure site reviews is with big name titles. i wasn't hating on anyone but look at reviews for lesser games. nobody scours the internet for those reviews

You know, when I first joined N4G two years ago, it was a respectable site. These days, people disagree with you without stating their reasons. I gave a valid point, ITavisen's review of Skate 2 would never be posted on N4G. With big name games, people look for every possible review, regardless of the site's reliability. I've never seen so many reviews from unknown sites than I do with the KZ2 reviews.

FYI I preordered KZ2 and have it paid off. I'm not trying to cause an argument, however big name titles always get more postings on N4G. The same happened with Gears of War 2. You got obscure sites' reviews that would normally not be submitted on N4G.

I believe that most people on this site don't care about what some site in Norway thinks of KZ2. They would rather trust sites like IGN.

I think it's sad that I get two disagrees without any words to back them up. ATavisen reviews were posted for LBP, Gears 2, Killzone 2, and Fable 2. All big name titles.

How come nobody submits ATavisen reviews unless it's a big title?

If you're going to disagree, at least give some sort of backup to your opinion.

Ok, if I mistook you, I'm sorry. Like I said its only because my opinion of you is higher than that, and lets face it, alot of American do tend to think USA is the center of the universe, but lets not get into that.

Your point is valid too, but what do you expect? After all the crap PS3 has and IS enduring and with Killzone pretty much being the flagship title and object of so much sourn and doubt, its only natural now, when the game has PROVED the haters wrong, and so very wrong, that people would want to show the praise off, no matter who its from.

And why do the big games get all the attention? Why do the hot girls get all the guys chasing them? Why do the winning teams have all the fans? Its human nature. What do you want? People gravitate towards greatness. And Killzone, Jessica Alba, and the Australian Cricket team are all great, although not so much lately for the latter.

Bathyj, I respect you. I just get tired of so many reviews from these sites nobody has ever heard of. Sure, KZ2 is going to kick major ass, but it seems like the only time people even mention smaller sites is when there's a big name title.

As you said, hot people get attention, hot games get attention. But I think that whenever there's a big game coming out, this site is flooded with reviews from places nobody would ever check out.

Maybe I've got the whole situation misunderstood, but it's just my observation.

If you want to draw attention to a lesser-known site, submit reviews for all the games, not just AAA titles.

For those who don't understand the score system:

They are using a dice!
ITavisen doesn't write a lot of reviews, because they write much about technology, news about cool products like TVs, phones and iPods. The Norwegian newspapers also use a dice to show how good a game is - if the game/music/film/show is perfect, then it's a sixer on the dice. But the major (and serious) Norwegian gaming websites use the original 1-to-10 system.

The dice-system works perfectly. But they don't write like this: 5/6, that's just stypid. They display a dice with five dots in their review. A five is good.

I read this website all the time. And you know what, they are horrible at rating....They don't know what they are talking about. They are not a gaming website or anything. Itavisen is all about technology. They don't know anything about gaming. They gave GTA a 6. Which is understandable. But the grafikk is nowhere near Killzone. But they didn't complain about that. But with Killzone they complained about little things that was not necessary.
