I'm playing through it for my first time, enjoying parts of it, and other parts not so much. It's definitely a Kojima ass game in all the good and bad ways. Honestly the combat/stealth sucks ass in it tho, which is really the worst part for me, which is a bit inconceivable given MGS V.

Exactly. The combat and stealth suck and are just shoehorned in to deliver a layer of challenge.
Hold your breath when going through the same BT areas EVERY time.
Nonsense about weather forecasts when it ALWAYS rains in certain areas no matter what.

Dumb BT fights that you can 100% walk (wade) away from without the enemies attacking you.

Having said that, I've platinumed both versions from scratch.

Nothing wrong with an artist creating for themelves and not for the masses. In fact it shows integrity. Death stranding was not a game made for the massess, yet almost 10 million people have bought the game. I think Kojima is less interested in playing it safe, and more interested in making titles that he finds interesting.

To people who aren't idiots: He's not complaining about sales, DS1 has 20 million players. That's 2/3 what Elden ring has.

What he's saying is he's disappointed in himself because DS2 uses more traditional Stealth and Shooting mechanics, and he was unable to succeed with DS1 when he was trying something new, and it didn't test very well.

Read the article, people. Headline should've been, "Hideo Kojima is a little bummed DS2 isn't more controversial." Which is on brand. This is Kojima, after all. I think it's testing better because people now understand the Death Stranding product, and DS2 is reportedly just positively iterating on that product, so it's not going to be as controversial as the first.

I'm a bit surprised by that. I've never played the game, but I have watched a friend stream some of it on Twitch, and I've evaluated gameplay on YouTube to gauge whether or not it would be of interest to me. From just watching the game, "Death Stranding" has to be one of the most boring, sleep-inducing games ever made. However, sometimes playing a game and watching a game can provide very different experiences. Going off high reviews, I thought those that did play the game, including playtesters, enjoyed it. I'll never get the game, it isn't appealing to me in the least, but I'm happy for those that do like it, and those looking forward to its sequel.

I never finished Death Stranding, bought it and got a few hours in but then I kinda gave up. It just felt bad to play carrying luggage the whole dang time and there not being any interesting combat or gameplay.
