Doom: The Dark Ages Launches to a Peak of 30k Concurrent Users

Doom: The Dark Ages has hit a peak of just under 31,000 concurrent players at launch, a figure much lower than both Doom and Doom: Eternal.

The game is awesome and EPIC, way more epic than the previous ones. The soundtrack is a heavy metal banger as well but yeah its clear why it’s struggling and i hope it’s going to be a lesson for Bethesda and for others greedy companies.

Be like more like Sandfall Interactive and Expedition 33 and your game will sell.

Could be affected by:
- A percentage of people will play this on GamePass which the last 2 games did not launch on.
- A percentage of players bought the Deluxe Edition which included early access, reducing the peak as players will start playing it on different days.

Price most likely the issue, and while most don't know or care about Denuvo on PC, if you lower the price I'm sure it will sell more on all platforms.

Well Clair obscure had the same situation(gamepass) and had a concurrent high of 150k and currently at 50k.

Sure, but those numbers are higher than previous Doom games' peak on Steam as well.
- Doom 2016 (44,269)
- Doom: Eternal (104,891)

It seems like the peak would at least as high as Doom 2016.

Bit confused on one thing. That graph only starts from May 15. They don't seem to have been able to capture data for the early access players who started playing days before that.

So basically, I'm talking about relative to the peak numbers of the prior games.

I'm not saying that a game that released on GamePass cannot have high numbers on Steam. But the effect isn't 0%. And Early Access also affects the peak.

"Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo" On PC. Remove it, and sell the game on GOG, for about $40 then I will buy it, as I have the previous 2 bought and I didn't torrent them. Doom I want in my collection. At least on GOG it will be DRM free and I own it. I can actually make my own physical copy with a BDXL disc. 😁

Yeah, no.
There is zero justification to charge $70 for 16 hour game.

First and foremost it doesn’t have the game on disc so I won’t buy it unless dirt cheap. Plus it’s not a very long game and I generally wait for shorter games to be cheaper. Put it together and I’ll wait for 10$ or less.

It's the price that's the biggest drawback. If you look on Steam it's the one major complaint.

So i bought it on ps5 and I've enjoyed it somewhat but nowhere near as much as I enjoyed the previous 2 titles. It honestly feels like a step backwards from eternal. Glory kills aren't as good, there are less guns/variety due to the lack of the secondary fire used to great effect in both the previous titles. The shield saw is a nice touch but it kinda reduced the emphasis on guns....its nice to see the story they alluded to through code's in eternal though.
