A remake of Quake 1 was, at one point, in development at id Software, and we now appear to have got our first look at the project's assets.
The first Quake from id Software is still one of the best FPS' around, and yet it's the only game the veteran shooter developer didn't directly return to. None of the subsequent Quake games, such as Quake Champions, ever returned to the gothic Lovecraftian style of the original - which is why it's annoying to find out that a Quake 1 remake was considered.
Quake I was atmospheric and brutal to master.
id derailed the franchise with Quake II.
Would love a Quake 1 Remake running on the latest id tech though I get that id themselves are too busy working on Doom to make this series now can't imagine any other dev who could do a remake justice.

I always said that Doom (2016)'s sequel should had been entitled Quake. I'm still hoping that the Eternal title side of things finds a way to bridge the Doom, Quake and Quake 2 realities much like Bioshock Infinite did. Quake 3 already did this, but I want more of a mixed mythology instead of 'plucked out of time' character cameos.
Quake Champions indicates that Doom, Wolfenstein and Quake are in the same universe, with multiple timeline. It is is also Indicated in older games that the Doom Guy/Doom Slayer is descended from BJ Blazkowicz.
What? DOOM 2016 is literally DOOM. It’s not quake. Quake has its own set of enemies and locations.
A quake reboot would be a good move imo huge campaign akin to wolfenstien with good story, user made content etc
Please make another Quake game it doesn't even have to be developed by id (since their all in on DOOM), hell it would be awesome if Raven Software made the game but unfortunately they've been demoted to back up devs for COD.

I remember id Software had mentioned that Quake 5 was in development back in 2010 during GDC. I wonder if that had anything to do with this. Regardless, it seems alot of assets for a new Quake definitely went towards Doom: The Dark Ages.
For a Quake 1 remake a complete overhaul of episodes 2-4 would be necessary IMO. I mean like, scrapping a lot of levels and starting over.
I was honestly expecting a quake game this time around after eternal. Dark ages is alright but it’s not hitting the same highs imo. I think doom needs a rest
