Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders cause havoc after going live in the US, just like they did in Japan

For some, Target's website crashed from heavy traffic, while others had better luck with Best Buy and Walmart's virtual queues.

At one point I had 5 tabs on my browser with different stores. I was in a line queues in all of them and still came up short. I'm shocked at Best Buy the most. I had luck with them mutiple times in the past. Not this time. They were the worst offender. I'll get the system eventually but I ain't going through that again anytime soon. 😆

I got on the waiting line on Walmart and it took an hour of trying and finally lucked out and got one.

@Jin_Sakai People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.

I tried to buy straight from Nintendo. I signed up for the prebuy.

I got an email yesterday saying I could buy it after launch. After they talked all that shit about avoiding scalpers.

Yea the waiting screen was dumb it showed no indication you’re in line so most people give up. I waited an hour and finally got in and was able to purchase one. I had to click the pre order button 100 times before it went thru though. Lol

I actually secured 3 pre-orders of the MK World bundle... No, I'm not scalping them. Just had to grab one for my Cousin and possibly my best friend as well if he wants it. Since their jobs would assuredly get in the way of them even attempting a pre-order.

Easiest by far was just going to Gamestop in person when they opened up today. Got there like 5 minutes before they opened and they still had a few left after I left. Got the other two at midnight from Target's app and Walmart queue. I also wanted insurance that one of my online orders wouldn't get cancelled or something.

Actually the situation in Japan is VERY unique and different to America.

Every single retailer is doing lotteries....meaning you apply to get one and if you are lucky you get an invite. Usually it takes about a week or so to find out.

Also Japan has 2 models. The Japanese only model for ¥50,000 and the "international" model for ¥70,000. The expensive model is only available directly from Nintendo.

Luckily I won the lottery for the international model. Since you are only allowed to apply for one, most Japanese gamers are applying for the cheaper model making it much easier to buy the expensive one.

It was pretty bad. Walmart was straight up crash looping and strobing at one point. BestBuy was the never ending queue. I finally got one at BestBuy after an hour and got my accessories and games from WalMart once the storm quieted down. Typical pre-order opening day nonsense.

Nintendo isn't retiring Diddy Kong and here's why

NE: "There have been some scattered claims going around lately saying that Nintendo is phasing out Diddy Kong, for one reason or another. If you have no idea what we’re talking about, that’s completely understandable."

I argue that simple res/FPS bumps should be free, and then you can charge $10 if it includes actual extra content. That seems to be what has been settled on.

Many PS4 games got free upgrades for PS5 when just increasing res/FPS. Days Gone, for example, got a free FPS bump to start the generation. Now it's getting a "remaster", improved visuals/extra modes/content for $10.

I know they have *some* free upgrades - though we don't know what they entail - but the Zelda games just seem like they know they can get money from eager new buyers, so why not. Zelda Notes doesn't quite seem to justify $10, but hey, let us choose. Make it a $10 app, and give the res/FPS upgrades for free.

Weird the Jamboree pack being 20 with no new boards or minigames for party mode, way to miss the mark. Minigame variety is seriously lacking for the party mode compared to superstars, my biggest issue with the game, think I'll pass on that.

I wonder if there will be supply issues (unable to find the system). Interesting that they are launching in the middle of the year as well.

the new Raidou game from atlus eont allow it either.
but will allow upgrading on ps4 to ps5 for free

ZeekQuattro1d 7h ago

I means it's the same company that makes you buy gold versions of games if you want the new content so it checks out.

ZycoFox1d 6h ago

It also means you have to buy a game key card if you want a physical copy, screwed over either way.

NotoriousWhiz14h ago

Fake physical. I'd be curious how many opt for that over just buying the digital copy.

Eonjay11h ago

You also have to rebuy any DLC.

GAMERJET9h ago

It's time to wake up. Don't support this practice or the price of the games on Switch 2.

Profchaos7h ago

I don't know what Sega is thinking here especially when they already offer the upgrade free on PlayStation and Xbox for the same game
