I Don’t Agree With Shuhei Yoshida’s Comments About the Nintendo Switch 2

Former PlayStation Executive Shuhei Yoshida had some harsh words regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 and worried that Nintendo was losing its identity, and I'm not so sure that he's correct in his assessment. Or fair.

I also don’t agree with his comments about how Sony should follow Nintendo with weaker hardware and and do handhelds. I’m glad this guy isn’t running the company anymore

I mean, I get what he’s saying about innovation, but at some point you hit the ceiling. This is the successor to their best selling Nintendo console, why throw that away for a gimmick at this point? Nobody makes comments about Xbox and PlayStation doing iterative upgrades without much innovation.

Aside from gimmicks lacking thereof, they’re pretty much the same Nintendo I remember, hell they’re even going back to their N64 days of game prices.

I just watched that section on EZA and there's nothing harsh about it.
He just said that they seemed to no longer cares about making their console feel special and unique anymore it's about getting on with the times more than anything and ended up on boring safe route of just making a more powerful Switch.
Even their mouse control got beaten by Lenovo Legion Go by over a year so even their gimmick sucks and unoriginal now.
But adding in a button that you can't use without subscribe to NSO is a step too far though.

Well he is right that it didnt felt like a Nintendo reveal. But that doesnt mean its bad. Its just that Nintendo did it more in a PS and Xbox kinda fashion.

The Switch 2 is exactly on brand for Nintendo and what I was hoping for as someone who never owned the original . Nintendo consoles basically always get a upgraded equivalent even though it's not always apparent . Nes>Snes , N64>GC ( both had wacky controllers) , Wii>Wii U , GB>GBA , DS>3DS and now Switch > S2

It's pretty clear PlayStation system sales peaked in the PS2 days. While for many people the PS4 & 5 are fun systems they have major problems reaching new audiences. Yoshida demonstrates he doesn't understand Nintendo system cycles either, Reggie explained it years ago during the Wii days in interviews how Nintendo operate hardware cycles.
