Roguelikes are a goddamn blight on humanity.

jznrpg6d ago

I enjoy a really good one here and there

Ugh man i can’t stand them. Lazy game design. Them and those Subnautica survival type games.. and Soulsborne games and it’s clones are getting real close for me as well. I hated Balatro as well.

Remember folks if you don’t know what type of interesting game design and mechanics to put in the game you are making just make it a rougelike.
-The slogan that’s on the bulletin board in every indie studio.

@Levii_92

Holy cow. Even Balatro? Have you actually played it? Some just stay stuck on the idea that they must keep everything on death or game over. It's literally no different from fighter games, super mario, and so mamy games where once you die you restart with unlockables rather than a set character with a gear of inventory. Except all a souls like does is restart you at a different point of the level without your souls, blood echoes, etcetera and maybe recover a soul form type of thing. If you find that lazy I don't know what to tell you. All it does is refresh pacing in a lot of cases to have mid and late game benefits but with the early game feel of progression mixed into every new play through.

This sounds like if I disliked racing games I should just tell everyone how bad they are like it's not a subjective opinion. If it was something actually controversial and with a point like cheap ad riddled mobile games or f2p crap then we'd get somewhere.

Why are you acting like someone is forcing you to buy/ play them?

pwnmaster30005d ago

Because that’s how gamers are.

slayernz5d ago

Yet here you are commenting on roguelike reviews like you think anyone cares lol

Abear215d ago

I’ve been playing this the past couple days and it is way more fun than it has any right to be. It’s the mystery and the challenge that has me hooked, I keep going back for one more run until it’s way too late or I’ve made myself late lol

OldDuffer5d ago

I couldn't agree more. It's so much deeper than ' place the rooms to get to the end one' . I'm 26 hours in and it gets in your head. Gamers with the attention span of a bluebottle - it's not for you, just walk on past.

Knushwood Butt5d ago

I started playing it earlier. Did two runs but I have to say it didn't drag me in at all. May give it another try, may delete it.

I am absolutely loving this game

Review: You Have To Be An Architect Before You Become An Heir In Blue Prince – Entertainium

Blue Prince has taken the Internet by storm and for very good reason. It’s one of the most divisive experiences you’ll have, thanks to what could be considered questionable gameplay design decisions, that in tandem with its long list of admittedly neat puzzles help exponentially prolong what could've beeen a much tighter game.

It’s not like a great indie comes out every month and it’s also difficult to tell when an indie is going to be received well.

darthv724d ago

This release has seen critical acclaim for both PS+ & GP. It good to see the little guy get the recognition like the big guy.

Scissorman4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Let's see: Animal Well, Bugsnax, Kena, Sea of Stars, Sifu, Stray, and the list goes on. Sony has been treating top-tier Indies as headline acts for quite some time. Blue Prince is just continuing the trend.

They have been doing this for years even going back to PS3.

I just like that someone thinks that Destruction AllStars, Harry Potter: Quiddich Champions, Meet Your Maker, Death Note: Killer Within have a 75+ Metascore.

Or that Deep Rock Galactic was a Day One release on PS+.

Great point. I do know people are putting Blue Prince above many games, Ven going as far as calling it a masterpiece, 10/10, GotY, but yes, Sony has been giving us great games for years.

In an age of Gamepass, this would go a long way to justifying Sony’s model. I am back and forth because as a consumer I’d LOVE a PSPass or whatever but I also know that Microsoft is phasing out consoles. Sony is still dedicated to great exclusives etc. So I’m split.

I honestly don't understand the hype about Blue Prince. Played it for a couple of hours, then deleted it. It's more like a card game/game of chance than a puzzle game. The only two puzzles I came across took a few minutes to figure out the first time, then it's the same thing again every time they crop up.

joab7773d ago

I have 10 days off and wanted to play Expedition 33 and now see this. What to do!!
Seriously though, it would be a HUGE win for Sony and for smaller games for a PS Plus game to win GOTY!
Seriously incredible.
