I just played Indiana Jones on PS5 Pro — and it’s so much better than on Xbox Series X

Tony Polanco: "Though Indiana Jones and the Great Circle isn’t a new game, it’s still worth it for PS5 players to see what their Xbox and PC player counterparts have enjoyed since last December. And as I've outlined, you’ll actually get the best version available on consoles thanks to all the new features and enhancements.

If you’re a fan of games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, then this is an adventure worth pursuing."

Yep, it's me alright! I just make up all these different accounts, so nobody knows the real deal.

Love my Pro but it’s obvious it should be better on it than Xbox. Doesn’t mean it’s bad on Xbox X. Series S probably not so great

I've played it on both the X and S and the S is surprisingly good. Obvious visual differences, but the gameplay is what matters and it is very good. Hell... even streaming from xcloud is good. Machine games made a game that scales really well.

Don't want to be a broken record and no disrespect to you but all developers that make large budget games have to make their game scale really well. That's why the S is holding this generation back and potentially why the Switch 2 might hold next-gen back. People think you can just scale graphics down and there is some truth to that, but you are bound by the lowest performant machine that you need to release on.

_One_ example of innovative gameplay that wouldn't run on Switch 2 or Series S no matter how much you scale back the graphics would be a game incorporating very complex physics that alters the gameplay at a fundamental level such as fluid dynamics (gaseous and liquids) which the PS5 and Series X is capable of to a much larger extent than the Series S and Switch 2.

Not all games need horse power to be innovative or great, IJ is a great game, but you are basically taking away tools from gameplay designers that would make their games really innovative. You can't downgrade the example I mentioned so it runs on Series S and possibly Switch 2. I want to see more innovation and devs are being held back.

@abstractel with that logic, consoles have held the industry back for a couple decades now. Took them 20 years to get an ssd and some decent memory.

@Michiel1989
1994 to 2013 wasn't 20 years and why are you ignoring the fact that consoles were more powerful than PCs with more memory until just before PS3 launched where PCs had options for way more memory, but were still significantly weaker on the computational front? Hm... I can only imagine why you are ignoring those facts.

Today, PCs are much more powerful than consoles on paper with dozens to hundreds of GB of RAM available to each machine where high-end GPUs have nearly twice the VRAM as entire consoles, but they rarely showcase their computational and memory strengths next to high-end consoles, which are still much less expensive and now more energy efficient as well. Why are games like Star Citizen, which isn't even targeting a console release still struggling to run well on any PC when it basically looks like Hell-Divers II with nearly infinite sized maps next to HD2? Is console really holding gaming back when most of the best looking games each generation were on console (primarily PlayStation consoles)? Games like Gran Turismo blow every other retail racing game out of the water regarding overall scale, level of visual polish, and physics accuracy. Why don't we see major publishers making racing games that blow GT out of the water exclusively for PC if consoles are holding gaming back?

For what reason? I've never owned an Xbox.

pwnmaster30008d ago

I would hope so.
More time to fix it.
It would be bad if it wasn’t with more time on their hands.

S2Killinit7d ago

Not to mention PS5 is much more powerful. That doesnt hurt either.

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Feels Perfect on the PS5

If you didn’t catch Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at the end of last year on an Xbox Series X or PC, the PS5 version is worth it.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5: excellent game, solid port

The PS5 and PS5 Pro ports of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle lack much in the way of new features - but the game is still golden.

Hope there is a sequel planned. This game is better than expected.

Port? I mean, it's a multi-console game that was just delayed for one of the consoles. If the next COD was a timed exclusive you wouldn't call it a port would you?

coolbeans3d ago

"Port" has been casually used like DF is doing here for some time. It's pretty innocuous, even if doing a 'port job' from PC/Xbox architecture to PlayStation architecture isn't the arduous task it used to be. Just take the title for what it is: MachineGames didn't rush to get this version out (according to DF).

I don’t think we need to get too pedantic about the use of the word port, the word itself is not a pejorative, it’s a bad port that is deserving of criticism. If a game is released on a platform after the release on other platforms, and was not developed in tandem with them, then it’s a port.

This was my personal GOTY on PC. I wish more game companies would use ID Tech 7 or 8 for their games and just abandon Unreal Engine 5 and any future ones from Epic.

If there was a third person option I would've definitely bought it.

MIDGETonSTILTS172d ago

You’re missing out. The 1st person perspective is better suited for exploring the detailed environments, and helps you get the best view possible of the puzzles..

Flewid6382d ago

Yeah but missing out is a better experience than not having fun.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle PS5 Pro Review – A Graphical Showpiece - Press Start

Press Start: "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle delivers both high calibre adventure, story and performance in spades, to the point it feels as though it’s wading into “uncharted territory” for its publisher. The decision to bop a Nazi should be a foregone conclusion, however the lack of balance in stealth and combat systems kept me in limbo, and left Indiana Jones and the Great Circle just a stone stele’s throw from true greatness."
