Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PS5 review: A perfect Uncharted successor - Gaming Bible

Gaming Bible: "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is one of the best action-adventure titles I’ve ever played - a great addition to the PS5."

I returned the Xbox Series version of this game when I found out only 2/3 of the game was actually on the disc and you had to download the other 1/3 of the game.

I've just now learned that the PS5 version is even worse having only 20GB on a disc and requiring an Internet connection to download the other 105GB.

So, looks like I won't be getting either version of the game and am going to pass completely on the experience.

The Last of Us Part II is a two disc game. Final Fantasy VII Remake is a two disc game. I think I can handle double discs experiences when it means having to download any portion of the game left. This isn't the PSOne era and it's certainly not the Xbox 360 era. These days you install the game and then use one disc as your authentication to play the game (no disc swapping needed) but Xbox couldn't even do that so, I'm out. I'll play Uncharted instead. I'm not buying Indiana Jones at all then, on either console. And do the same the with Gears of War trilogy and I'll pass on that too. Digital only? I'll pass on that as well

CrimsonWing6914d ago

lol. Man, I can’t imagine having that thought process to miss out on a game because part of it you have to download. I wonder if PC gamers ever think like this. If you’re that butt-hurt over it, why not wait for a sale instead? Are you going to give up on the hobby when it shifts to all digital?

Jingsing14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Because they don't want to pay for it multiple times or have it removed from their library due being an expired disney licensed ip. They are 100% legit concerns. If you are not supporting game preservation you are not supporting gaming and you should find another hobby. I won't be buying it for the same reasons. At the end of the day it is just more lost sales for them.

CrimsonWing6914d ago (Edited 14d ago )

It’s very rare that a game gets removed from your library. Give me 10 games that have been removed from digital libraries, hell give me 5.

Why do you have to pay for a game multiple times?

Steam is one of the largest platforms out there and growing, so I guess all PC gamers don’t support gaming 🙄.

Physical games don’t last forever, either. You have to go to their-party resellers who can charge out the nose for it. Some physical games you can’t even find anymore. What do you do if a physical game breaks or is lost?

Yea and a lost sale definitely doesn’t harm anything. I’m sorry, but 90% of media is digital. Movies, music, books, TV, like I get wanting a physical collection, but to cross your arms and stomp your foot because you have to download a part of the game is kind of ridiculous. Especially in this digital age.

Like what do you do about movies? Refuse to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime stuff because you can’t buy it physically? How do you go about music? Refuse to buy it because you can’t get it on CD or Vinyl? Do you miss out on DLC or expansions for a game because you have to download them?

andy8514d ago

Baffling that someone would return a game because they have to download some of it. It doesn't even make any sense. Just play something else until it's done. You're having to play something else now anyway so it's the same result...apart from the fact you miss out on playing it.

CrimsonWing6914d ago

It really is. This game is great, like honestly a contender for GotY when I played it last year, so I just can’t fathom missing out on that experience because you have to download some of it.

Like there’s some great indie games that are digital only, too. They just don’t have the finances for physical distribution and they need support to continue and grow… then you have this mentality of, “it’s digital, I won’t support,” like it’s just something I don’t have in me.

darthv7214d ago

The lengthy explanation just tells me you really had no intention of actually playing it and would rather have a piece of shelf candy instead. People who are interested in playing a game will play the game no matter what.

But you go on and keep fighting the good fight when it comes to physical media. Other players will happily play the game in your absence.

Xbox making BIG money out of Playstation nation this year!

Oblivion Remaster is already the third biggest release on PS5 this year! Only behind (so far) of Monster Hunter: Wild and Assassins Creed Shadows!

Shadow Dropped!

Instant Success!

Profchaos1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

So is Sega these days.

Funny really you make a good game and make it available for sale and people buy it. What a world we live in

northpaws1d 1h ago

Still this argument? Lol.

The truth is the Xbox division cannot even survive without PS now, not the other way around.

Obscure_Observer14h ago

@Kornholic

"It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them."

You should take your concerns to the devs who gets fat checks upfront and supports Gamepass with their games in the first place, not the gamers. Gamepass is not for free, you know?

I pay, they provide. It´s simple as that. I´ll enjoy my games on Gamepass for as long as I can. I´ll support the games that aren´t available on Gamepass as well, but I refuse to be ripoff by a company like Nintendo and their insanely overpriced products. My money! My rules!

@MrDead

"You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry."

Now they´re making games and making big money out of everyone and your lame rhetoric was destroyed.

And yes, you´re right. Xbox gamers should thank PC, Nintendo, Mobile and Playstation gamers for support Xbox gamers while funding and making those games available to us day one and making XGS a better, more profitable and financial stable for Xbox developers.

Kornholic23h ago

Since the majority of Xbox players absolutely REFUSE to buy and pay for games, it wouldn't be even possible to make these types of big budget games without releasing them on PS5.

It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them.

ThinkThink3h ago

If I'm supporting the game and studio by paying for it via gamepass, I'm not also going to buy the game on top of that unless it is about to leave the service and I want to finish it. That would be like subscribing to Netflix while going out and buying Stranger Things box set on bluray.

MrNinosan23h ago

Playstation making BIG money out of Xbox nation this year.

Zero work, zero costs, zero risks... just collecting gold.
Just like with Sega and other big third party studios 🙌

dveio22h ago

And it's not just that 30% cut only.

Imagine if there's just one person saying:

"Mmmh, Indiana Jones is now on PS5. I just wanted to buy a new console. Oh, look here, Forza on PS now, too? Oh, what's that - Death Stranding 2 only on PS5? I guess I'm gonna get a PS5 then."

These are the decisions that lead to quarterly financial reports seen in the last one.

When Playstation made almost double the revenue of what Xbox did, with increased, even record hardware sales and profits.

It's not just that "30% cut".

lukasmain2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Yes and some people don't seem to understand, the more consoles Playstation sells (because more people choose PS5 because of this), even more money they make because these people don't just buy these Xbox games on our console, they buy ALL 3rd party games across the board and Sony gets money from ALL of them. Sony is making a killing even more now. Some people don't realise just how much of a big massive WIN this is for Sony, now that MS put their games there. Just more 3rd party games that Sony gets a big fat chunk from. More games for all the users to choose from and Sony just sits back, on top of releasing their own games and the 2nd party games too. Sony is laughing. MS is laughing. Playstation gamers are laughing. Xbox gamers get what they've always had, their GamePass to continue unimpeded.

But they dont get Sony's games and we get all theirs, that's the kicker lol

ravens5217h ago

Bro. 🤦🏾. This ish isn't embarrassing to u??

MrDead17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry.

Thank you gamers for buying this game and slowing down MS's mass layoffs and market manipulation is what you should be saying here.

raWfodog14h ago

That's a weird take on it since Oblivion was also released on PS3 back in the days, but okaaay. We know what you're trying to do LOL.

It's really no surprise that a publisher is taking advantage of available platforms to release their games on. I mean that's what EA, Ubisoft, and Activision (before becoming Xbox Games) have always done. It's poor business decision otherwise. This just means that Playstation is the best place to have access to all of the great games.

Now that Xbox fanboys have accepted that xbox games will be released on PS5 (and Switch 2), Microsoft will be able to release them on Day one from now on. Just had to get people to swallow the pill.

Profchaos1d 1h ago

Just in time for gears e-day

dveio1d ago

I really gotta say I am a bit curious about E-Day.

With hardly any sales anymore, wether hardware nor software, probably not even subscriptions in a quantity they would want to have:

Is Spencer going to pull the trigger and bring Gears D1 on Playstation?

raWfodog14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Yeah, it's funny how some Xbox fanboys thought it would be a cold day in hell before Xbox first party games would ever release on PS. Then they kept moving the goal posts back each time a game came over to PS ("it's okay for that game, but it will never be this game, etc."). And now it's "We're making money ever time PS gamers buy our games, Yay!"

The very definition of "Cope".

goken1d ago

It’s what a good game from a good franchise deserves.
I still think it would have done better if it came out on PS5 day one.

dveio1d ago

That's my guess, too.

In hindsight, it's really been a bold decision to not release it on Playstation in a month like December.

But instead back in August already to announce it's going to come to Playstation, then proceed to make it a weird "4 ½ months timed exclusive", and then to release it in a time with so much competition/big games being around.

Isn't this just weird?

I mean why would you do that, purely from a business point of view speaking.

Eonjay20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Well in reality Microsoft probably wanted to release D1 on PlayStation but probably made the decision late in development... remember in an interview Spencer said, just a few months earlier, that the game would not be coming to PlayStation.

So this is probably the result of a bunch of 'inside baseball'.

The result is that Microsoft is on pace to dominate PlayStation sales charts for the month of April and May. It's great for Sony too as they get a windfall of platforming fees from a former competitor.

All in all this is good for both companies and even better for PlayStation consumers that get access to PlayStation exclusive games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Yotie on top of games like Indiana Jones, Forza, Doom, Oblivion, 33, and GTA all in the same year.

dveio19h ago

Well, yeah. Nothing to disagree with you.

Although, as far as "dominating Playstation charts" goes:

We'll see. I have nothing against anyone dominating anything.

But this term of "domination" shouldn't be used too losely I suppose.

Indiana Jones was #1 best-selling game in a single week (so far). Let's see how Forza went.

And after May we'll have better numbers, or even after 2025.

I guess it's safe to say Clair Obscure already surpassed Indiana's sales on PS5.

UK Sales Charts: Expedition 33 Debuts in Second Place, Almost All Sales for PS5 Version

The UK's physical sales charts for last week are here, and it's more good news for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The RPG has debuted at number two, only trumped by Hogwarts Legacy, which has been top for several weeks in a row.

Furthermore, 96 per cent of the copies sold were for PS5 — perhaps not as shocking a statistic when you remember the game launched on Game Pass on Xbox systems, but in the realm of physical sales, that's quite the gulf.

Geez.

I don't even know how to put it.

I mean, yeah, ok, that's just impressive.

While still remembering times when Xbox discs were on par or even sold more than Playstation's in the UK.

VenomUK18h ago

That stark difference between sales on the different platforms, 96% on PS5 and 4% on Xbox, is much larger than I think anyone was expecting. The only people buying it on Xbox are likely the ardent physical game collector enthusiasts.

It demonstrates that including premium games as day one freebies with subscription services kills off any demand from consumers to purchase them. If Microsoft had 100 million Game Pass subscribers this business model would be profitable for it - but it doesn't so every game that launches this way has lost out. In time industry experts will look back at Game Pass and pontificate on day one releases' effect on customer buying habits and the harm it did to the Xbox ecosystem.

ThinkThink3h ago

I think 60 million is realistic in the next couple of years. I guess we will see how the "this is an xbox" initiative goes with cloud and smart TVs. That's the only way they will be able to further expand gamepass numbers. XCloud needs to get out of beta first. More servers needed to mitigate wait times and continue to reduce latency.

jznrpg1d 9h ago

Proud of those 4 percent of Xbox players supporting games with their wallet and going physical. Not a joke.

DarXyde17h ago

Certainly worthy of praise.

For the rest of you, you deserve Microsoft doing things like DRM check-ins. Y'all are too excited to see an all digital future without pushing these companies to do better with digital rights first.

Eonjay20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Here hoping they got a healthy deal from Microsoft. If they do DLC they may be able to cash in on a bunch of GP subscribers. And of course really nice to see this selling so well on PlayStation.

96%... maybe there was no Xbox disc available?

goken1d ago

While we’re at it, Maybe 50% of those wanted to buy it for Xbox but accidentally bought the PS5 version instead and will be taking it back to the store to exchange it in the coming days.

Scissorman1d 9h ago

This is why devs praise being on Game Pass. They know that the Xbox install base won't buy their game anyway, and they get a nice payout upfront. It's a complete win win.

mkis0071d 9h ago

This game could have made more if it wasn't on gamepass. Only under the radar ones benefit that much from gamepass.

dveio1d 8h ago

I'd guess they saw the potential of the game and paid Sandfall a very (!) good amount of compensation before-hand.

OptimusDK11h ago

So you know the deal they made

ThinkThink3h ago

Zero chance I'd ever buy an Indiana Jones game for 80 bucks though. Would much rather put that towards something like assassin's creed shadows. I did quite enjoy Indiana Jones on gamepass though.

Bathyj1d 8h ago

More likely they were taking the safe option and getting a payout up front in case it didn't sell and now they are regretting it as it could have been a big hit .

who knows that ratio could have been closer to 60 40 had it not been on Game pass

MrNinosan1d 7h ago

The ratio will never be 60/40, not even close whatever game it is.

If this game wasn't on GamePass, the ratio would in best case scenario reach maybe 90/10.

1. Playstation install base is more than double (almost triple of Xbox).
2. Xbox gamers don't tend to spend as much money on games
3. Jrpgs are still way more popular on the Playstation consoles than on Xbox.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Takes 2nd on the UK Retail Charts Following PS5 Release

Hogwarts Legacy has remained in first place on the UK retail charts, according to GfK data for the week ending April 19, 2025.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, following the release of the PS5 version, came in second place.

Astro Bot dropped one spot to third place, while Monster Hunter Wilds remained in fourth place. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is up one spot to fifth place and EA Sports FC 25 is up six spots to sixth place.

Playstation owners buy games.

Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.

Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.

Bathyj5d ago

Not really. It's directly contributed to having the healthiest console and ecosystem. Not really debatable.

The alternative is a console platform holder whose least important customers are the ones who own their console. That's why it's Microsoft games studios now not Xbox in all but name.

Microsoft needs PlayStation, PC and Nintendo players now more than they need Xbox players. They're a dying breed.

5d ago
andy854d ago

Not really. That's why Xbox is going under consoles wise. PS gamers purchase stuff that's why console and game sales are always high. Xbox gamers want games for 'free' on gamepass and to enter at the lowest price point (series s)

VenomUK4d ago

@InUrFoxHole said “Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.”

This Tuesday after The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion was finally revealed I saw a tonne of conversation on X/Twitter of people gleefully mocking PS5 owners who said they were buying the game, as they were getting it for free with Game Pass. Yes, that’s great value for people with a Game Pass subscription - but do you still not see how it has impacted the Xbox hardware platform? It’s the reason Indiana Jones and Oblivion and Forza Horizon 5 aren’t exclusive anymore.

ravens524d ago

InUrFoxHole, its wild that you think that's wild lmao. 🤯. You buy your food from the grocery store?? Ugggh. You should get Factor. Who pays for food anymore when you can pay a subscription to receive food for "free". Disgusting.

Sound stupid? It is.

InUrFoxHole4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Bathy
That's some cope there. You think the healthiest console is the one that doesn't even provide their gamers with their exclusive games? That crazy talk man. The healthiest is Nintendo and that's 💯 not even a debate. MS provides gamers with games. Sony provides you with MS games. Enjoy

@andy
You have broke brain. Gamepass isn't free. It's a sub service. Jesus n4g knows how to pick'em

andy854d ago

@InUrFoxHole notice I put free in ' ' these? Doesn't take a genius. Every game that comes out on Xbox you'll see this comment "is this coming to gamepass".

2nd on the charts for a game such as Indy ain’t great.
Releasing half year after xbox version probably cooled off some demand.

This is a very good game, deserves the best chance to do well.

badz1494d ago

The real great performer here is Astrobot. keeping that rate of sales for a last year's game that is not GTAV, CoD and FIFA (now Hogwarts too). outselling MH Wilds and EA FC is kinda wild for Astrobot!

dveio4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Hogwart's, Indiana, Astro Bot & Monster Hunter - that's a pretty nice top 4 once again.

I bet MachineGames are quite happy about the sales pouring in.
