That’s the narrative, but there’s hundred of pages with nuances that makes this a bad idea. Most countries had tariffs on select goods from the US, which is very different from what US is doing by putting a tariff on absolutely everything. If you compare the consequences it’s night and day. And it’s not like US didn’t have tariffs on other countries before Trump either.
Trump’s whole rhetoric is to get back at others, and it works because people are upset and need someone to blame. But that also means that Trump can get his way by simply making straw men for the public to fight.

The increase is for EVERY GAME AND EVERY COMPANY OUTSIDE OF THE US. And there are going to be increases in American goods because of licensing and parts.

So expect increases for PC, Microsoft via Xbox, Nividia, Ps5, Nintendo, Lenovo - everything. Even subscriptions will be affected through the extra charges on licenses alone.

Nintendo consoles are manufactured in Vietnam. Yesterday, the US President announced a 46% tarrift on goods imported from Vietnam.

If we do the math, the switch 2 console was announced at $450 and the new tarrifts will take that price to $657. Of course that is the based on the cost the consumer has to pay but realistically, the tarrifts would be 46% of what the retailers pay when they buy the consoles from Nintendo. So the price will likely be $600 to $650 unless something is done.

The first CPUs were invented in the USA as well with IBM made the first 2nm chips in the US back in 2021. America isn't currently capable of meeting global demand for chip manufacturing nor is the country poised to dominate even local supply of chips and in that way only, I agree that America can't manufacture these chips, and I must also say that is almost assuredly not what you meant. You likely meant that the US has no ability whatsoever to make even individual chips as advanced as what is in our devices today, but if that is what you believe in truth, that's where you'd be completely wrong.

These tariffs have nothing to do with Switch 2's pricing anywhere. America that one country accounts for more than 33% of Nintendo's global market as of https://www.nintendo.co.jp/... (it's the 2nd XLS document) for both lifetime HW and SW sales. Cutting off the US market is a complete non-starter for Nintendo and Switch 2.

While the pre-order delays imposed by Nintendo are, reportedly, the result of Trump's tariffs, the price of the system's HW and software all over the world has as little as nothing at all to do with American politics or Trump's tarrifs.

The only way the American tarrifs COULD impact the global price of Switch 2 (or other products) is if Nintendo (and other foreign companies) are unwilling or unable to convince their governments to reduce their tarrifs on American goods. In this way Nintendo (and maybe other companies) may choose to tax the world by increasing the prices of their goods to make up for projected losses in the US market. Alienating the whole world is a much dumber decision than accepting the tarrif fees of a single nation and still making profit at a lower rate due to your largest market being under a tarrif especially for non-essential entertainment sectors. Nintendo has choosen this path, in my opinion, due to greed.

No other company is currently choosing to drive their prices by 10% or more to make up for projected losses that may be incurred by US tariffs.
