I probably wont be getting very many SW2 games at launch. the Mario Kart is a given but I have so many other SW1 games that I will probably just play those on this while waiting for other games that interest me.

We can only hope that games will go on sale not too long after. the DK Country HD that just came out at $60 is now on sale for $40 at costco, that is when i bought it.

switch 2 is rubbish. weak hardware for too much money and is the same price as ps5 that is way more powerful and offers a lot more than what switch 2 offers. the inferior games on switch 2 shouldnt even be the same price as ps5 games especially when the quality of ps5 games are way above switch 2 games. 80 -90 dollars for some switch 2 games is insanity but fanatics will justify the switch 2 game prices so they should expect that the gaming industry will increase gaming prices soon. there are so many negatives around the switch 2 and the pricing of certain things it makes the ps5 look a lot better in everyway.

Depends on what you mean by "get away with that".

It'll sell very well. No question there. But even if it's on the market as long as GTA V, it's likely to do worse (i.e., sell fewer copies). A $100 price for a standard edition is one thing. But people are remarkably sensitive about their politics in a way that wasn't the case in 2013, there's a massive economic downturn, people will feel a certain way about a female protagonist, and Rockstar already said it's not going to be genre defining as prior games did.

I would think that a hypothetical $100 price is likely to try and OFFSET the issue of lost sales, and to maximize profits even when it "goes on sale". It will take much longer to get down to bargain bin prices if it starts at $100, of course.

But I don't think that's getting away with anything. The market will not respond favorably and it's likely to sell worse than previous games, but they're padding the landing.

And tears of the kingdom started the specific game costing more because it is popular. So expect main line zelda, mario, etc... to be 80 while the less popular titles are 70.

The only thing I would understand, though still not like in any way, is the physical versions being $10 more. Cartridges are definitely more expensive than discs and these new faster cartridges are also more expensive than Switch 1 ones, so at least that part makes some sense.

No, no. People forget some of the ridiculous pricing the SNES/Genesis era had. The fluctuation in prices, because of the RAM/Special chips/cuz whatever, was wild. Expansions are different from season passes.

Expansion is new single player content for your game while season pass is a bunch of cosmetics and in game stuff for multiplayer game with a expiration.

I'm a fan of expansion packs I hate season passes.

I'd gladly pay more for single player games that don't come with micro transactions or season passes that want to sick players in to consume all their time and have them spend thousands on a game no thanks

Back during the Xbox 360/PS3 era any expansion was a season pass. That came with new content and campaigns, look up Gears 3.

You’re out of your damn mind if you don’t think Nintendo will take advantage of these price hikes for both the normal game and an expansion pass which, Fire Emblem Three Houses’ expansion pass came with cosmetics. You just sound like you’re trying to say you don’t care about MP only passes and care about Single Player passes.

Either way, nothing justifies this hike. There’s not changes like, “oh $80 will include all stuff they’d sell in an expansion pass,” it’s literally Nintendo pushing to see what they can get away with.

I mean, they’re only $80 on the popular and most hyped titles like Kart and Zelda. $70 for DK, and $60 for SF6, and $40 for Bravely Deafult. That makes it even scummier, like they know there’s no reason to do this, but are making consumers pay extra for the more highly anticipated titles.

Nintendo have hamstrung themselves by sticking to handhelds while simultaneously killing their handheld division with the launch of Switch in 2017. People laughed at a home console barely managing 4K but mums the word about a portable managing 4K and 120FPS? I'm just baffled by the priorities of people. PS5 Pro is the world's most powerful console on Earth right now and barely manages a native 4K60 in current gen games. The $1,000 iPhone 16 Pro Max is still (wrongly) considered the most powerful flagship phone on Earth, but barely manages 720p30 in games that barely look fit for pre-alpha on last generation home consoles, but do look better than similar efforts on the existing Switch. How is Switch 2 going to handle 4K60 or 1440p120 in games that the PS4 (and Xbox One) couldn't touch? Assuming devs still made new games for the last gen. I love how what Nintendo showed off today made it look like most of their games will be refined CGI, even if somewhat simple.

Mario Kart World and most if not all Nintendo first party games will be fully on the cartridge. The "card-key" will be rarely used by Nintendo, its made for cheap-ass third party publishers, such as EA, Microsoft, Konami, etc. Or small indie publishers, who can't afford to take a risk on expensive carts production.
