im not so sure anymore if the games are more expensive ha

Neonridr49d ago

other companies will follow suit in no time.

darthv7248d ago

it's times like this that I'm glad i sub to PS+ Premium and Game Pass Ultimate. Sure i may not own the games (I can if i want to) but I'm good with renting new / newer releases.

darthv7248d ago

It seems they will range from $60-80 depending on the game. Like that new DK is $70. While this MK is $80 by itself, it looks like getting the bundle is the best way to play. Then if someone wants a physical copy later, just buy it used.

lukasmain49d ago

I have zero doubt that it'll pay off. The is a great evolution for the game. The open world, the races that can span across the world and it knocking out players at certain checkpoints. That is really cool. This game is going to sell crazy numbers i think

SlothLordPootus45d ago

It's a bit weird referring to these things as a gamble when Forza horizon and the crew have been doing open world racing for years now, and elimination modes are even older. Theyre good additions to MK tho.

"Pushing boundaries" seems like a stretch.

LOL

The only boundaries it's going to push are the boundaries of the series itself. nothing more

'For software, in addition to the same factors, the price is decided by considering factors such as increased costs due to increased game capacity and longer development periods.'

Hmm, why not use key cards then if they're good enough for third parties?

“Longer development periods”

LIES!

This would be true if the Switch 2 was a current generation console and outputting graphic fidelity of current gen, but it’s barely better then a PS4.

If they are saying that their games take as long to develop then high end current gen games, then that is a complete lie. Typical PR spin.

Just call it what it is - Greed.

Extermin8or3_9d ago

When did the last new Mario kart title actually release?

CrimsonWing699d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Yea, nothing you said justifies the price hike. Variable pricing already shows you’re “testing” it with popular titles until the sheep give in and you make it the standard you greedy pig.

ravens529d ago

Whats worse than the greedy pig IS the sheep though.

CrimsonWing699d ago

You’re right and that’s the thing I wish could be prevented. Like, if they didn’t give in, companies would quickly adjust for the market.

For me, I’m just limiting myself to a game a month and waiting for sales on everything else. It sucks, but I’m making my stand with this industry. Otherwise a year from now $100 will be the standard for games.

anast9d ago

It's the president of Nintendo's job to lie. What is not said or avoided is the truth.

heres the translation

"the next Zelda, pokemon Mario, Smash, Animal Crossing and other games will be outrageously overpirced, regardless of glitches, how they look, how they play, how outdated they look, how ridiculously bad the voicechat functions"

Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are simply impossible without Nintendo Switch 2

'“[The] hardware processing performance [of Nintendo Switch 2] has become necessary for software developers to realize one of Nintendo’s most important goals: proposing new ways to play,” the president said in a translated comment.'

So I guess by that definition, Metroid Prime 4, which is cross-gen, isn't a new way to play.

While we're on the subject, open world racing games aren't remotely new either.

CrimsonWing6910d ago

Yep Burnout Paradise and Forza Horizon are a couple that come to mind

RaiderNation10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Metroid Prime 4 is a Switch game that runs on Switch 2 with upgrades. Same as Breath of The Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It's not a Switch 2 exclusive.

Open world racers aren't new. But open world Kart racers are. When Nintendo speaks in these terms, they're speaking of new ways for THEIR IP's to play, not the competition. They really never acknowledge the competition.

Exactly what grievance are you trying to air?

Pedantic9110d ago

And you're splitting hairs, It's an open world racing game, an "arcadey" subgenre of a racing game if you really want to push it. Otherwise, it's just another case of "fans of an exclusive ecosystem sees something new".

Really now, Nintendo doesn't really care whats being said here nor do they need any help standing on their own two feet.

RaiderNation10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

@Pedantic91

You truly live up to your name.

Pedantic9110d ago (Edited 10d ago )

@RaiderNation

Why thank you, i do try to be precise in life.

b00mFargl310d ago

Oh, nintendo fanboys. You'll gobble up anything nintendo tells you.

sboog8710d ago

You’re the problem. This is why Nintendo can get away with bs excuses.

Nacho_Z10d ago

If there's any pedantry here it's making an unnecessary distinction between open world racers and open world kart racers, the vehicle type is irrelevant from a technical standpoint.

Out of topic....

I heard a rumor that Arc System Works are working on a Switch 2 exclusive game codename "Watari". And it will use Unreal Engine 5.4 with expected release date of November 2025. Cool if its true.

Blastoise10d ago

We hear this every single generation with every single platform 😆

gerbintosh10d ago

"Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa explains that games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are impossible without Switch 2."

Isn't this the most obvious comment? Of course it isn't possible on the Switch 1, it was made for the Switch 2

Profchaos10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

The particle system of DK bananza alone would never work on a switch so yeah I can see what they are saying here.

Of course these games would work on competitors consoles but they are making direct parallels to Nintendo hardware they are hardly going to come out even acknowledge the existence of another platform.

In addition this is like that generic line that every platform holder gives us before the launch of a new system
