PS3 for some of the new genres I got to try. I never played FPS before but killzone 2 has been and still is the best multiplayer experience I have ever had.

Ironically the order for me is numerical:

I think it’s really indicative of the industry and corporate killing off creativity and focusing on making the most money they can at the cost of letting devs make things they’re passionate about.

I will say really PS1 and PS2 are tied for me. Without a doubt this gen has been the worst I’ve ever experienced out of them all.

I’m enjoying PS5 a lot with its dualsense which I feel is revolutionary. And PSVR2. I’m still missing some great first party developers games but the generation isnt even close to finishing so there is time. I would rank my Playstations in this order:
1. PS1
2. PS2
3. PS3
4. PS5
5. PS4
But PS5 can overtake PS3 if the first party games start hitting like they did for PS3 in the second half of the generation.

For me:

PS3 (1st party REVOLUTION and good 3rd party carried the brand for the next 2 Decades)
PS2
PS4 = PS1

TBD: PS5 (so far it looking like last place, but it’s still been a great console thus far. Budgets have caused significant slow down in game development, and the GaS model has them in their current predicament of less than normal 1st party output). It has 2 -4 years left to recover, so we’ll see.

2, 4, 3, 1, 5 for me. I'd even go so far as to put PSP and Vita ahead of 5. 5 has just been a disappointment when it comes to the variety and volume of 1st (and 2nd) party games. Its good hardware, and i dig collecting the controllers but Im getting more play time out of my switch and series x than I am the 5 at this point...

PS3 was my favorite console.
PS2 was my favorite library.
I didn’t really get into gaming heavily until PS3 and I had the OG so I played all the games I couldn’t play.

1. PS2 (insane library and original titles, I had multi controller with Medal of Honor and time splitters local co-op was so fun)

never owned PS1 but played spyro and Gran Turismo in friend house and it blew me away hence started demanding PS2 from parents hehehe

The reason why I put PS3 over 4 is because PS3 had variety of first party. sp, Multiplayer, platformer, FPS etc. The 4 started to shift into heavy SP games that I loved very much even had that iconic E3 2013 and E3 2016. As I said what made the PS3 great the PS4 started to slow down in favor of more SP narrative driven games and less first party variety.

You can tell a jrpg fan by where they rank the PS1. If they rank it low, they usually don't have love for them.

It was one of the most important consoles for jrpgs, incredible lineup! Suikoden 1&2 HD Remaster released yesterday is a great reminder of that.

I still really enjoyed my PS Vita, but one of my favorite things to play on it (and even on PSP) were the classic PS1 jrpgs. So for that reason, PS1 has to go above PSP, is above Vita. PSP had a pretty great jrpg lineup in its own right.

I wanted to, believe me, but i just can't get into turn based combat, ive tried a lot over the years but it just doesn't do anything for me. Which sucks cause everything else about a lot of iconic JRPGs i absolutely adore

The PS1 changed the entire industry! It definitely deserves a higher tier spot. That PS1 was something special for those that were there!

PS2 deserves the number 1 spot but the PS5 better than the PSP? Come on now… there were way greater games on the PSP. This generation has been poor!

PS2 - Long Live The King Baby!

Nostalgia is always rose tinted, impossible to compare as the culture of gaming is always moving. Plus PS5 is in the middle of its life so it isn’t a complete story yet and we haven’t seen all the games.

Hardware plays a role and I think people downplay it. Are we comparing how many great games we played when we were finished with the console, how we felt the first day we unboxed it, or just its overall quality?

PS3 was amazing, but try going back to play one after playing on PS5. It feels comically slow, as is the primarily 30fps gameplay. PlayStation has also re-released so many of its greatest games it becomes even harder to argue for older consoles as the best games on the systems are more playable and enjoyable on newer hardware.

Gamers have never had it better, while devs are seemingly stuck in a creative rut and many games take 100 hours to finish, the great ones always drop towards the end of the consoles life.

For me, story is still being written on PS5 but I’m gaming at 4K 60, it’s never been better. PS3 cell was wack, PS4 has no games tied to it that can’t be played on PS5. PS2 was simply a phenomenon.

PS2, PS3 (That HD era was insane), PS1 (just nostalgia the foundation), PS4 (great library and transition into the 4k era, PS5 great addition to the family I own every SKU, I just don't get that huge of a wow factor as previous gens for new games. I'm also Old now so ehh.

PS5 #1 Stellar Blade alone makes it the best.
PS3 2nd RDR Arkham series, Nier, MGSV, Wolverine Origins and Grasshopper games.
PS4 3rd for the only console trade in to PS4 Pro
PS2 4th started playing at the end of its cycle. Games became cheap.
PS1 5th I was a PC Master race back then.

PS1 & PS4 are cast iron classic consoles. PS2 wasn’t my thing but it had some great titles.

PS3 was an abortion.

PS5 is a great machine that has not been supported properly.

But hey this is N4G and it’s impossible to have a genuine conversation about Sony.

Hard to say;
Best 1st party exclusives, PS4.
Best exclusives in general, PS2.
Best entertainment system, PS3.
Best UX/smooth experience, PS5.

Going from PS4 to PS5 was the biggest generational leap for user experience IMO, gone are the days of 5 minute loading screens on games like GTA, RDR, Cyberpunk - reloading saves and waiting 30 seconds or longer, the speed and ease of use move PS5 up very high IMO, it just lacks the catalog of PlayStation exclusives gems right now.

I enjoyed them all. PS1/2 gen my favorite game catalogue as a whole because of the rpgs. But long term as consoles go PS3 Fat is my favorite because I can play PS1-3 games. 2nd place console wise is PS5 for its games, loading times and PS4 BC. It will be interesting to see if PS4 games will be playable on PS6 or not. PS6 could take PS5’s place if it plays PS4 games. It may only play PS5 hames so we will see.
