PS5 Pro Sales Are Falling Behind the Pace Set by PS4 Pro

PS5 Pro sales are struggling to match early sales of PS4 Pro, with a noted 15% drop in hardware sales in January 2025.

I bought mine and sold it. It’s a great console, but my base PS5 was still more than enough, and I have a gaming PC.

I wonder what Matt means by “falling off the PS4 Pros pace”? I would think that means the PS4 pro is catching up to PS5 Pro now (launch aligned) but we know PS5 Pro has initially sold better.

It means the PS4 Pro is outselling the PS5 Pro at the same point in Circana's markets.

PS5 Pro did sell better in Japan out the gate as I recall, but perhaps it's not faring so well in North America, especially after the holidays

A 15% drop is not the evidence you were asked to give to back your claim. A drop does not signify it’s behind at the same point. Particularly when we know ps5 pro started stronger.

Ps4 pro have the new standard of 4K tvs to stand on and was priced the same price as ps4 at launch and was an upgrade in every way, ps5 pro is going from upscaled 4K to slightly better upscaled 4K and doesn't even have a disc drive for a minimum of $200 above ps5s price. Has some big cons going for it.

Oh well. It wasn't needed and honestly by the time developers really dive into this and start to really take advantage they will most likely have PS6 dev kits in their hands. What are they going to focus on more, a mid gen console not everyone has because the majority already has a PS5 base console or a brand new next gen machine a lot more people will obviously make the switch to.

Hopefully this stops any future mid gen console bullshit and Sony starts to rethink any high price points or detachable disc drives to sell separately from the console.

Considering its targeted audience, it's doing well.
PS4 Pro sold more simply because it was much cheaper than PS5 Pro.
Doesn't look like Sony is worried about its sales number at all, they knew it wasn't a console for the masses, the standard PS5 is.

A fail lol. The console is double the price of the PS5. Being slightly behind the PS4 Pro which ws basically the same price as the PS4 was launched it seems like a pretty good success.

Personally I never upgraded from a PS4 to a PS4 Pro, and I've no intentions of upgrading from a PS5 to a PS5 Pro.

Actually PS4 Pro was a good upgrade, as the original is too slow for me to runs some games. Whereas PS5 to PS5 pro was a waste as the original still run great, while the pro make so little different for such a price increases.

they just overclocked the cpu in the PS4 Pro, some games hovering near 60fps were cleaned up, that's it, i don't think they even had VRR available

PS5 Pro can literally boost every game even turning 30fps into 60fps, there's no way a PS4 Pro is turning 30fps into 60fps with a slight overclock of the cpu

That's very true. GTA6 not launching on Pc means PS5 pro will be the best place to play it. It will be very interesting to see if sales of pro pick up around launch of GTA

I agree with you but it's GTA6 and there are people who are going to specifically buy a console to play it. I think GTA6 could move some hardware

I guess it will come down to what sort of pro features there will be. Given the delta between base and pro, I'd venture that R🌟 won't want to skimp on the base to make the Pro more desirable. They would probably treat the Pro like they would series x. Both are better than their lesser... but their main aim is to the one that has the lions share of users.

It's expected, ps5 pro is much more expensive than ps4 pro, and ps5 is more capable than ps4. But I still upgraded when it hit 4600 rmb in China last month(around $600), so far no regret, playing Kingdom come deliverance 2 at quality mode with 60fps is quite satisfying

Too expensive for me. I'd rather wait for a ps6. Problem is the lack of competition is making Sony keep first party games on the downlow and has no reason to have a competitive price.

The PS5 PRO cost almost 1000 Euro's including the discdrive (if you're lucky enough to find one for a normal price). Just not worth it. The Pro will fail miserably. The PS6 will release in 2027 and no developer will care about the PS5 PRO from then.

Those with a premium tv I.e oled and 65inch + with 120hz vrr will likely appreciate the pro more due to the extra gpu Power producing a 4k resolution , things will look sharper and run smoother especially on the responsive oled screens. To make the most of these tvs would make sense to buy a pro. But if your not bothered then the base ps5 would be fine.

Might consider the pro for GTA VI dependant on upgrades but that’s it. Happy with my PC. Just keep the PS5 around for those rarer and rarer exclusive games…

People realizing the differences arent that distinguisable to fork over $699 and possibly more if you want the disc drive. Sony communicated the the PS5 Pro as the end of having to choose between Fidelity and Performance mode but that isn't the case at all, still need to.

The PS4 Pro was NOT a niche console. Since it came out at the same price as the base PS4, it meant it was simply its replacement. Just like the Slim version was but without the discount.

The PS5 Pro, however, IS a niche console. $700 and no Disc Drive? Sony Smort.

Concord tax ruined the console launch. If that pos game hadn't been made for so much money then the PS5 Pro might've launch at 449 or at the most 499, not freaking 699 just to cover for the loss of investing in Concord absolutely insane
