Days Gone Remaster Won't Be Available for $10 Upgrade If Claimed via PlayStation Plus

Days Gone remaster will not offer a $10 upgrade for PS Plus users. To access the PS5 version, you'll need to purchase it at full price.

lukasmain69d ago

I mean that sucks, but the game itself has been like 10 or 20 max on the PSN in the past so don't bitch. I'm just so glad we getting more Days Gone content and upgrade. In my dreams it does really well and a sequel gets green lit. But I feel like I'm 90% sure that won't happen *tear rolls down cheek

Cacabunga68d ago

Logic a free game from ps+ library won’t be upgraded.
I have the disc version. Not sure i will replay it though except if the graphical differences are massive

KyRo68d ago

I had the disk and sold it along with other games because it was part of PS5s instant game collection. That's being said, the game never really blew me away anyway to warrant a double dip.

darthv7269d ago

This was common knowledge. It's the same thing they said about previous + games like Uncharted, GoT, Death Stranding where a $10 upgrade was offered.

VenomUK68d ago

Yes, but what Sony has done at the time of announcing a $10 upgrade on those games is it puts the original version up for sale at a higher - near full price!

jznrpg17d ago

Buy physical it’s really cheap

glenn197969d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Sony is greedy as fucked, people are begging for DG2 but nothing let me shove a remaster in your body and charge you full price , get the fuck outa here

andy8569d ago

Yes a minority are. The game didnt do well which is why we didn't get the 2nd. If they were greedy as f it'd be a $50 game with no upgrade like the remasters used to be. At least the option is there, can easy buy a cheap copy of the game then trade it after. This remaster is the only way part 2 happens.

badz14969d ago

I don't believe for a second that the game didn't do well financially. the game was overall the 19th best selling game in the US in 2019, and 9th for PS, 15th in the UK and I think it did pretty well outside of those markets too. the thing that bugged (pun not intended) the game was the reviews which somehow put too much emphasize of misogyny like they were all in arms against straight white male as protagonist.

just read this from TheGamer:

"In hindsight, Days Gone was a game out of time. Deacon St John was a protagonist who has no place in the modern gaming landscape, which likely explains why he and his redneck biker ways were forgotten so quickly. It didn’t resonate with people, not because it wasn’t woke, but because we’d seen it all before and didn’t care. I enjoyed messing with hordes and riding around on my motorcycle in Days Gone, but I purposely tuned the story out, already knowing in my heart that it had nothing worthwhile to say."

tell me if THAT is not a WTF take from a gaming site. "game out of time" and yet, barely any game does hordes like it since!

I know berating Days Gone was the viral thing to do at the time but imagine rating Mario and Zelda games because they have terrible and generic stories, they do, and calling anything Nintendo as "out of time" because they are so outdated compared to others? imagine the backlash!

Michiel198969d ago

not offering the cheap upgrade to a massive amount of players that paid for ps+ to get the game is a path to a sequel? its a path to piss your players off....

@badz you quote a whole paragraph and the only thing out of time applies to is the zombie hordes? if you take a second to read, you'd realize that. Did you miss the part where he said: I enjoyed messing with hordes and riding around on my motorcycle in Days Gone, but I purposely tuned the story out, already knowing in my heart that it had nothing worthwhile to say.

Are you just trying to take the review out of context on purpose so you got something to complain about?

andy8568d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Wasn't a lot of those sales with discount though? That's why the developer made that famous statement about buying at full price. I'm not even knocking the game, I love it. But there's obviously reasons we didn't get a part 2. And yeah the reviews were utterly ridiculous. It's an 85 game at worst. I think a $10 upgrade is a bargain tbh, no one would work for free.

FPS_D3TH68d ago

When was a 2nd game announced or this just cope?

glenn197968d ago

Days Gone has made over $100 million in digital sales on PlayStation. It sold over 2.7 million units on the platform. When counting physical and PC sales, the total units sold come out to around 9 million

There a business to make money. The remaster didn’t get made for free. It cost labor etc.

blacktiger68d ago

You don't even know what's greedy is,
Greedy is when you want more money.

They gave you free game and can't buy a discount through free game lmao

babadivad68d ago

It's not free. You're paying a monthly fee for the game.

rippermcrip68d ago

17 people begging for a game doesn't mean jack.

Christopher68d ago

A vocal minority is begging for DG2.

neomahi68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Dude, you're the very reason I don't get to enjoy my PS5 the way it's supposed to be. I buy new consoles for new games, new experiences that push the hardware. I CANT because people like you are so stuck on the past and can't move on and buy remasters and remakes. Publishers are so busy making games for you to keep you happy, here I am five years into this gen and they forgot about me. Insomniac, San Diego, and Housemarque are the only ones to say: We got you. Everyone is just sitting around waiting to be told to get to work or get laid off.

It's also y'all that nearly killed PlayStation when you griped and complained about the PS3. It was too expensive (which is wasn't). When they took backward compatibility out you griped again and NOW they quit thinking like Steve Jobs and now use off the shelf PC components making it the same as everything else they're in competition with because y'all wanted backward compatibility so, unique and innovative hardwares gone. Now, y'all have backward compatibility and you're griping again.

Greedy? Maybe, but they're just giving y'all what you want. You're the ones willing to waste the money while those like me are on the back burner while devs just sit around and do minimal work to make remasters and remakes you want or develop games that indicate we should just build a PS One again. You've got a Ferrari but you opted to have a Ford Focus engine experience going on inside it instead.

SO! Stop buying the remakes and remasters and then they won't seem greedy

Profchaos68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

you should see the begging for bloodborne probably a super easy remaster for them still crickets

Huge difference i must admit, but not sure i would notice without 2 screens next to each other.

Not getting this game still, i want a new game and im tired of remasters

Muigi2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It’s $10 and there are plenty of games out there for you.

Flewid6382d ago

Then its not a huge difference?

Killer2020UK1d 21h ago

Of course you wouldn't, nobody would. If you have never experienced the other, then you don't have the reference needed for comparison.

TheEroica1d 18h ago

Sony getting ready to milk some more people on dumb products.... I can see the psvr1 and 2 owner salivating over days gone remaster. Lol. What a ruse song is pulling.

Knushwood Butt1d 14h ago

How can Sony milk customers if it's such a 'dumb product'? If it's so dumb, nobody will buy it, and there's no milking.
Plus, there's nothing preventing people from getting a copy of the PS4 version.

Babadook71d 9h ago

As a PSVR2 owner. Yup. If there’s a VR version I would be there day one.

Greg28011d 17h ago

There are plenty of people who never had a chance to play this game, now they can with the remaster.

Don't understand why people who already played the game complain about a remaster. No one is forcing you to buy it. There are plenty of new games to play

marioJP871d 10h ago

Huge difference where? Besides blue color filter and darker lighting?

Remastered.....

Tedakin2d ago

Sony is now remastering games with 71s on metacritic.

Bathyj2d ago

Like that's a judge of anything
This game got scored before it was released.

andy852d ago

Days gone is 85+. It got heavily marked down at launch for bugs where as others get a free pass for that. It's a fantastic game.

Kosic1d 22h ago

And it's not even a big overhaul remaster. It's list turning up the graphic level by one. It's quite embarrassing, as the original wasn't that bad. And the remaster isn't that noticeable

PanicMechanic1d 14h ago

“And it's not even..”

Bugs bunny NO meme

TheEroica1d 18h ago (Edited 1d 18h ago )

Poorly remastering if images are to be believed.

Tapani1d 15h ago

To me it was very close to The Last of Us Part I. It was that good quality.

PanicMechanic1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Shut up. Best open world zombie game on the market

I spoiled myself by modding this game on my PC. Genuinely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Whilst this remaster looks nice it just doesn't compare to that sadly. It shows the effort that these remasters could put in if they wanted

REDGUM2d ago

I so hope this game or DLC for those of us who own the original sells well.
Ive said it before, its an underrated game for sure & was unfairly judged upon release.
Please try this game if you haven't already.

For those who say 'i won't purchase digital only' you can pickup a hard copy for 5 bucks here in Australia, then add the DLC and you have a superb game for $20 or so.

Give it a shot, tell me I'm wrong After completing the game.

Game on gamers.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2d ago

It was full of bugs at release I wouldn’t call that being unfairly judged. If you want your game to score well then release it in a completed state. Now with that being said I think the game was pretty good.

Knushwood Butt2d ago

It really wasn't.
The worst I encountered was a horde spawning on top of me when exploring a cave.
Did you even play this at launch?

S2Killinit1d 18h ago (Edited 1d 18h ago )

It wasnt full of buggs, it was very playable. That was the excuse for the hit job at launch before people started to speak up about how great the game was.

One of the worst gaming generations, with most games are remasters with less original and new games. Sony is not even trying, they just want the easy buck. Not only that, they are remastering recent games like LOU, Horizon ZD, GOT, Spider Man, Shadow of the Colossus, God Of War, and now Days gone.... with many other masters.
