Xbox currently has more first-party games coming to PlayStation 5 this year than Sony

Tom writes: "This week on the Eurogamer Newscast, we look ahead at 2025 on PlayStation 5, in the wake of last night's State of Play. If you tuned in for big games, you were well served. But if you wanted to see exclusive first-party PlayStation titles... well, it's clear there's something of a lull right now in Sony's pipeline."

Console War,
Console War never changes

Grilla79d ago

The console war is over. PlayStation won.

VenomUK79d ago

At least one of these people look inbred.

ravens5279d ago

It's never over for the Xbots. They have ptsd or something.

hiawa2379d ago

Console wars are only in gamers minds.

darthv7279d ago

...or XB is winning from the inside. They just need to infest the PS and then they assimilate it like the Borg. People say XB is a cancer... and what does cancer do to good cells??? it takes them over.

wesnytsfs79d ago

Id say PC won. They get all xbox day one and have to wait for Sony games just like Sony does for xbox titles..

wesnytsfs79d ago

@ravens52, It sure seems like Xbox players could care less about Sony and Sony players who have to try to belittle Xbox games. This is from a PC player I have no skin in either side winning or losing.

VariantAEC79d ago

@Darthv72
PS gamers aren't liking most of the games coming over from Xbox. Only a fee made the jump so far but there's really only been one successful launch with Sea of Thieves which is a name I couldn't even bothee to remember and had to look up, but even that games fame on PS was short-lived and likely hyped to the nines by gaming journos.

Nintentional279d ago

Nintendo. PS games come to PC

Profchaos79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

If it's a matter of sales Nintendo has technically won their current system is the second best selling console of all time it might outpace the ps2 but when the numbers are above 150 million I don't think it matters

MEGANE79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Dummy, we lose, competition is vital, and Xbox is not going anywhere, if anything they are adapting, now when PS wins, xbox wins, but we will pay a hefty price for a non rival PS6.

This is a stupid article, ofc that is the situation. Imagine if PS or Nintendo dumped all their games on Xbox under one year, that would outpace Xbox number of titles too. This is a ridicilous take for an "article" imho.

crazyCoconuts79d ago

In fairness, Sony's massive live-service f-up over the last year or two has made this a lot more obvious.

@zeref

Yeah, I'm sure that's the reason why...

Knightofelemia79d ago

The console war ended with the PS3 vs XB360. After that Playstation has pretty much dominated.

neutralgamer199279d ago

Enjoy games who cares about platforms. Play on whatever you prefer and enjoy. Way too much negativity

D2niceforu79d ago

It doesn't work that way! /s

at least that's what this site always says.

TheEroica79d ago

Man, Xbox is about to make a ton of money.

Abear2179d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Black Myth Wukong not coming to Series consoles bc of Series S memory

Oh boy GTA6 is going to put Xbox in a grave and seal it with concrete

D2niceforu79d ago

Comparing some inexperienced Chinese studio to Rockstar... yikes.

But how many of the Microsoft Studio Titles are also worth to play?

This year neither MS nor Sony seem to have even one title I care about and thats totally okay. I buy Doom Dark Age when the inevitable dlc for it is available as a bundle ..most likely next year.

But I look forward to Fatal Fury, GTA 6, The Midnight Walk, the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and the Capcom Fighting Game Collection 2.

Christopher80d ago

Your opinion on the value of the games doesn't change the facts of the argument. Sony should be putting out more games. We know why they aren't, but they should be called out until they get back to being what they once were.

Terry_B80d ago

Hmm.

How many Sony Studios Games were released in each of the last 5 years, how many are coming this year? + is it confirmed they don't have more in the pipeline for 2025?

And yes..quality matters, not quantity. If you have games there like Redfall or Hellblade II that are more looks than gameplay it matters a lot.

Christopher80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

*** How many Sony Studios Games were released in each of the last 5 years, how many are coming this year? + is it confirmed they don't have more in the pipeline for 2025? ***

Why are we bringing up the past like that excuses the future? I pay for games to be made on my hardware all the time, not just when they can get around to it.

And holding out hope for an announcement when we just sat through 40 minutes of third-party and two console exclusive games isn't a winning argument.

***And yes..quality matters, not quantity.***

Last I checked, all those games you don't like coming to PS5, specifically Indiana Jones and Forza Horizon, scored pretty damn well by reviewers and gamers. You just don't like them. Don't act like me saying it's your opinion means you get to decide quality.

If you're cool with what Sony has been putting out, great for you. I'm going to keep holding them to the level they set themselves and question when they don't meet those. I don't give free passes to companies just because I prefer their hardware. I can quickly move to different hardware for my third-party gaming if they aren't making the hardware matter compared to the competition.

Knushwood Butt79d ago

I'd rather have one excellent game than five crap games.

rudero79d ago

Sony is releasing games.
If you only look at AAA titles, neither have released much… except for Sony, it is a slower generation compared to Microsoft’s decade of nothing new in the AAA department… anything “new” has been only due to acquisitions. Even then, nothing has been innovative or “new” in the sense of awe in gaming.
We have to look at history in order to predict the future…
What is to become of all those acquisitions under Microsoft?
Per history, it looks like safe bets and downsizing.

You can not re-write history and say something like “oooo cod:mw 2 is being rereleased” and call it a Microsoft first party release on Sonys console.

Christopher79d ago

***Sony is releasing games. ***

They've canceled more games than they've released the last 3 years.

***If you only look at AAA titles, neither have released much***

Sorry, I couldn't hear you over me playing Avowed.

***except for Sony, it is a slower generation compared to Microsoft’s decade of nothing new in the AAA department***

Right. And when it was a problem with Microsoft, guess what I said? The same thing I'm saying now for Sony. But it's no longer a problem for Microsoft, just for Sony.

***We have to look at history in order to predict the future… ***

Sony doesn't have a history of not releasing games until now. There is nothing upon which to base their issues other than the future. And the fact it happens at all is a defining moment in their history going forward. By your logic, even if they turn it around, because they had it happen once, it will happen again. No, that's the wrong mindset to have. It shouldn't happen.

*** You can not re-write history and say something like “oooo cod:mw 2 is being rereleased” and call it a Microsoft first party release on Sonys console. ***

No, we actually can do that. Because it is a Microsoft first-party title and it is released on Sony consoles. We can do this. It is a fact. Same way we can do that with future games out of Bungie for Sony.

Eonjay79d ago

Microsoft solved the problem by buying massive third party publishers. Sony probably can't do that. Mistakes happen and they will have to make corrections but if you think Sony can match the output of Microsoft, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard King you really aren't being realistic. Meanwhile, I'm gonna enjoy all the third party games coming to PlayStation, even the Xbox games, and the Sony games as well. You want to fane offense knock yourself out. There has never been so much to play.

Christopher78d ago (Edited 78d ago )

***if you think Sony can match the output of Microsoft, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard King you really aren't being realistic.***

Sony can't match the output of Sony right now. That's what I'm saying. And if Sony can't keep up with MBABK, then that's something they should work on since that's their #1 competition.

But what I'm hearing is you're telling me I should move to Xbox? Sony isn't outputing what Sony once did and Microsoft is dominating. Man. Never thought I'd see the day people encouraged moving to different hardware rather than asking more out of their preferred hardware.

VariantAEC75d ago

@Christopher
So, Xbox 1st party re-releases count as new games on PS despite them already being on PS in the past... but PS 1st party re-releases on PS don't count?

Christopher75d ago

*** So, Xbox 1st party re-releases count as new games on PS despite them already being on PS in the past... but PS 1st party re-releases on PS don't count? ***

1st party Xbox games coming to PS5 are new games for PS5. They haven't been there before. They are new games for the PS console.

Remasters of PS4 games isn't the same since PS4 games are playable on PS5 already. You're not gaining new content, you're gaining slightly improved content you already have and you are paying for it as well.

If you do no like 3rd person games what does Sony offer? Even their excellent open world games are 3rd person.

Terry_B78d ago

Last Sony game I bought was Gran Turismo 7, I have actually almost no Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo games. 3rd Person is totally fine, but I care less about story in games, more about action and challenging gameplay, especially fighting games. Last year, Tekken 8 was probably my most palyed game

Lightning7780d ago

Omg you guys are so observant. Thanks Captain obvious.

TrueRican6980d ago

The reason why Microsoft sendin the games over to PlayStation because nobody's buying a shity Xbox systems.

lukasmain80d ago

And as a mainly Playstation player I say thank you to MS. This is good for Playstation players, awesome actually. Even more games to choose from. I look forward to playing FH5.

You know it's funny, I saw someone referring to MS's games as "sloppy seconds". "Enjoy playing my sloppy seconds" he said. I burst out laughing. Imagine referring to some of your system's best games as "sloppy seconds"? The levels of pure crystal copium were off the charts.

Software_Lover79d ago

........... You know the systems are damn near identical right??

goken79d ago

No it’s not. Especially not the sales figures. Also aesthetically they look nothing alike.

Abear2179d ago

Bought a Pro because that will be the best version of GTA6

VariantAEC75d ago

No one is buying Xbox games on Xbox or PC either due to Game Pass. If Game Pass also comes to PS Xbox will have successfully killed their game publishing division.

Are Multiplayer Modes Vanishing As Developers Look To Cut Costs

With some recent and pending releases opting to exclude a multiplayer mode; Skewed and Reviewed ask in a new Opinion Piece if this is a growing trend as developers seek to cut costs more than ever.

Christopher15h ago

I think the riskier option is to sell a SP game that you throw some form of MP into just for the sake of it and that ends up affecting the quality of the SP experience. With the plethora of F2P MP games out there, why spend time and money on something when you can focus on the SP experience. Not to say that means they're all good, but at least they're not wasting time with things people don't want in SP games. I doubt anyone bought Veilguard for MP let alone will buy the next Star Wars SP game and expect MP either.

Garethvk14h ago

There is that. I think the modes that were tried for The Last of Us is a good example. But for me a FPS missing multiplayer seems off as it was such a staple FPS, RTS, and sports games are where gamers expect it to be.

Vits14h ago

It's the current logic. People are paying more, for less.

If that "saved" money were actually spent on improving the single-player experience, that’d be one thing. But anyone who actually plays games knows that’s not what happens. We’re in the era of “safe” games, stripped-down, polished packages full of shiny lighting, big setpieces, and all the interactivity of a NES-era background.

Multiplayer modes, extra features, modding tools, things that used to add value for players, keep getting cut. Why? Because they don’t add value for the company. And, as always, the useful idiots will cheer, pay more all while getting less than before. So of course companies will keep doing it.

Garethvk14h ago

Exactly and what gets me is if it is done correctly, multiplay adds money. Ask Activision how much they make on skins and DLC all the while giving a year of free content updates. You get through a Call of Duty campaign in about 8-12 hrs. The multiplayer and frequent content updates are what keeps people playing. I always pop back in when new maps and content release. I do not buy skins and packs but many do. I wonder if we will get the Half-Life 2 mode where Multiplayer is added later. Some may see how the game does and then decide to add it later.

isarai13h ago

I wish they would go back to having SOME simple mp, like instead of the only choices being going all out and gambling on a super roadmaped, season pass, Battle Royale, multiplayer with open world maps and tons of loot OR no multiplayer at all. Why cant we have something in between sometimes? Where's just this very simple PVP probably reusing a sectioned off peace of a level from a single player like they used to do

Garethvk13h ago

I think they all have a place but simpler forms are needed. I wish we would see more co-op play in a campaign.
