Whose review of anything doesn’t boil down to an opinion? I guess you’ll might actually first play the game before you give yours…….just my opinion

CrimsonWing6982d ago

The irony in this is you’re upset at my opinion, lol. But that’s ok right? Definitely can’t call out other opinions based on opinion, which is… your opinion?

GhostScholar81d ago

Don’t worry, when it drops on other platforms it’ll be looked at as potential game of the year. It’s only bad right now because it’s Xbox.

I'm really enjoying the game. I haven't found any issues with it so far (worst thing I can say is I wish the facial dialog movements for certain NPCs were better, but the VO is good). Really a solid game and love the system and the world so far.

RaidenBlack81d ago

What I gathered from reviews, they've taken abit too safe approach with this one? Art style n exploration are great but dialogue and world reaction not so much.
I have a hunch, based on a leak/rumour of Avowed being internally rebooted, that the initial build of the game was more dark, ambitious and Skyrim-rivaling but after MS bought 'em and then BGS, internal review of the project led to changes that made it distant from Elder Scrolls style.

***Art style n exploration are great but dialogue and world reaction not so much. ***

Main quest NPC dialogue is good, well voice acted. Side NPCs aren't as good and, yeah, some are bad, but that's pretty normal when you're voicing every NPC. And they are voiced, not just text conversations. But, hey, if they weren't voiced, it would have been reviewed better?

World reaction isn't 'like some others' but it's more than 'some others'. There are reactions, but it's more about story hits. I watch a guy put on a play, NPCs mill about. It's not great, but it happens (your companion even sits and listens, which sadly the PC can't do). I help to stop a grenade smuggler, she isn't arrested right in front of my face but when I come back to the same spot later the guard and smuggler are gone and her cart is confiscated (and I find a note later on proving I did the right thing). This desire to have the best reactions for just this game seems targeted to me. It's like people went looking for complaints and not for what is fun and enjoyable. I expect these same criticisms for the next FF game. I find this game no different than Banishers, where what changed was based on story moments as well.

Too many people get their opinions from YouTube rather than just playing and enjoying the game for what it is. If someone thinks a few side quests with bad voice acting makes a bad game, boy, they must be easily disappointed considering how little time that voice acting lasts and how much there is that is good in the game.

What I gather from playing it is that it's a fun and enjoyable game (so far) that isn't perfect but still enjoyable. What you get from reviews is what you get.

You know the only thing I am hoping for is this studio has never had great budgets for their games and now that they're under Microsoft maybe they can truly achieve their vision and make a true Blockbuster AAA RPG

But it seems like they want to make AA quality games. Imagine a fallout new Vegas or outter worlds 2 with big budget

Eonjay82d ago

I actually like the idea of smaller budgets. The cost of AAA has really gotten out of hand.

RaidenBlack81d ago

That's also what I was expecting.
Trademark BlackIsle/Obsidian RPG with big MS budget. (Maybe it'll start happening after Outer Worlds 2?)
But I also kinda agree with @Eonjay, utilizing MS budget for smaller more frequent AA is also not bad.

D2niceforu82d ago

It's definitely a reasonable one?

rlow181d ago

The irony is I’m not upset in the least. Did you play the game and if so what about it that you didn’t like?

So many people just hate on a game they never played. So if you played it, what was your reason for not liking it. Because the difference between informed opinions and just opinions is vast.

GamingSinceForever81d ago

The response was to Avowed being better than Fallout New Vegas or The Outer Worlds. He never said the game was bad. That is the assumption you made on your own.

So yes you seem to be upset.

@GamingSinceForver

Bingo!!!

That’s exactly my sentiment with my post. But this @rlow1 dude… or dudette, got their panties in a bunch and had a knee jerk reaction because how dare someone post a comment in the comment section with an opinion on an opinion piece, lol.

I guess, Y’know, from my experiences with Obsidian games going back to Knights of the Old Republic 2, New Vegas, South Park Stick of Truth, Pillars of Eternity series, The Outer Worlds, and not being impressed with what I’ve seen of Avowed and reading the mixed reviews… I’m not allowed to voice an opinion on an opinion, which is his opinion… f*cking inception level opinion talk there.

It’s hilarious, honestly. And check this out, if my opinion were aligned with their opinion, his ass wouldn’t have tried to get all snarky about it.

If you enjoy it, good for you. What does it matter what I think?

In my humble opinion, based on my previous experiences with Obsidian games, looking at reviews, and from what I’ve seen, this isn’t the best Obsidian game… but again, that’s just MY opinion.

Lol, this is ridiculous, I know 😂

Game is getting very mixed reviews. I'm interested. I have enjoyed all of Obsidian's games... but I don't expect this to be great. Good, yes... not great. But, I could be surprised. I saw a mixed reception of stalker 2, and I am completely in love with that game. So who knows. Avowed may surprise me.

NoDamage82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

The state of game journalism is horrendous right now. There are no clear metrics that are used to rate these games. Especially since many journos in the industry dont actually have a passion for gaming so they bring in their own politically charged opinions or casual charged opinions. I wouldnt want someone whose only consistent experience with gaming is playing free phone games with mtx all over the place, to review and tell me how good a normal games is.

So youre experience with stalker isnt unique to you. I've encountered similar suprises all over the place...including, unfortunatley, playing a highly rated game that turns out not to be that good at all.

At one point, Avowed would have taught us to use magic with an explosive Elder Scrolls reference

The Morrowind gag is, blessedly, still in the game in a different form.
