I Still Can’t Believe the Avowed 'Physical' Edition Is a $95 Download Code in a Box

TNS: As a lover of physical game copies, I can't believe what Avowed is outrageously calling its "physical edition."

Well... I guess its because it is to accommodate both physical and digital console users. Just like Ragnarok collectors edition did. I'll just get the steelbook on the 2nd hand market. Or from one of those outfits who makes them and sell on ebay.

They could make it If you wanted the physical you go to a store and buy it or if you wanted the digital version you pre ordered it have an access code emailed to you on day one and the rest shipped to you later 🤷🏿

The same way Cyberpunk 2077 ultimate edition owners got the entire game and expansion on disc for Xbox while PS5 players have to download the entire expansion with none of it on disc?

That's what happened with my physical collector's edition of Horizon Forbidden West. Still a great game, but what a disappointment. It even came with a steelbook case.

Spiderman 2 did it as well. I guess it cuts down on cost and warehouse space but it still kinda tarnishes the idea of getting a collector's edition. They might as well just sell standard physical copies and then like a collector's pack box with a steelbook and whatever statue and stuff separately for people that want that kind of stuff.

I’ve pretty much given up on collecting games. physical games are dying, so I switched over to collecting action figures instead. Collector’s editions are released without disc over-ad-over again. Plus many games are incomplete on disc.

Unfortunately same I always check does it play sites to see if it has enough data on the disc to boot the game and doesn't require the patch.

If it needs a download or online connectivity it seems pointless. At least my physical library seems more curated these days as a result I have more retro throwbacks and games that will likely retain value more that e.g. like a dragon infinite wealth vs cod 52

Microsoft doesn't make Xbox One vs Xbox Series copies separately like Playstation. Since they don't know which one you want, both versions of the game won't fit on one disc... just understand the situation and calm down. The future is also 100% disc-free...within the next 10 or 20 years...why delay it until the last minute?

I had about 3000 dvd’s at one point. My family and friends used to go home home on holidays after “borrowing” a few. Physically or not, you don’t own anything unless it’s a book.

My copy of Spider-Man 2 and horizon fw came on a disc and plays fine without a internet connection

I forgot if it was Shu or Shaun that was talking about physical media for Sony and Sony still strongly believes in it because they have a subset of users who use their consoles in locations around the world where internet is not possible and unlike Xbox where it's main sales are in the US PlayStation is global

doesn't matter who does it, this shouldn't be the norm. I would rather they just sell the collector's edition WITHOUT the game if they decide to do this. getting a code for a collector's edition is insulting
