To put it in perspective the Wii U never received a discount even after the switch released it just rotted and remaining inventory was either sent back or sold by retailers for a conderable loss.

So don't think the switch 2 will be insanely expensive because the switch isn't dropping in price this seems like history repeating itself

Knushwood Butt107d ago

Keeping Switch 1 price the same is pure greed, but they are also doing it to cover their bases if the Switch 2 flops.

Neonridr107d ago

why would the Switch 2 flop?

Knushwood Butt107d ago

Because it's a Switch Pro.

Why would Wii U flop? It's got Nintendo written on it and has lots of games with, 'Mario', in the title.

Sonic1881106d ago

I can't imagine Nintendo Switch 2 flopping

SeTTriP106d ago

You really don't understand the Nintendo consumer do you?
They care not for specs or upgrades, S2 will not do the same numbers as the original.

Neonridr106d ago

@Knushwood Butt - the Wii U was a flop because they never really did a good enough job indicating it was its own device. Many consumers thought the gamepad was some sort of add-on to their existing Wii.

With the Switch 2, there is zero confusion that it's its own device. Given the crazy success of the Switch, having a device that functions the same way with way more power is simply a recipe for more success.

I agree that would be greedy, but it’s possible Furukawa is lying about no price drop for Switch 1. If people knew a price drop was coming this far in advance, that would drastically reduce sales of Switch 1 as people would just wait for the price drop instead of buying now at the current prices.

Knushwood Butt107d ago

In that scenario you're saying people would rather buy a Switch than a Switch 2.
If Switch 2 is more expensive than Switch 1, which it will be, and the games are cross-gen, that makes Switch 2 a hard sell.

FinalFantasyFanatic106d ago

It honestly sucks, but with inflation taken into account, we probably wouldn't get a worthwhile discount these days anyway.

gold_drake106d ago

im not sure if it will flop

things have changed for nintendos ip. they've never been more popular and successful

Uh, if Switch isn't getting a price drop Switch 2 will be a minimum of $449. They need to have 3SKUS one dockable one not, and one that's TV only

badz149107d ago

With 256GB of internal storage and Nintendo fanatics will call it a bargain

Rainbowcookie107d ago

So thats confirming it to cost more than the original now it just how much. Surely it can't be the same as Ps5?

April was actually pretty good then for Xbox. I had expected this as there was a run on the Series X pre price boost. I would expect May to be down by more but revenue might actually hold due to the price hike.

badz1497h ago

It just means that last year was already a significantly insignificant year for xbox

Scissorman11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

down 2% from an already low number is still bad. and if we look a little closer, 140K of those sales were from US alone, meaning that a meager 65K sold to the rest of the global market. outside of the US, xbox is a dead brand. and it is holding on by a string in its strongest territory. this is why MS had to go multiplatform. low xboxes sales means fewer gamepass subscriptions, which means you can't afford to put hundred million dollar budget games on the service anymore.

jznrpg9h ago

Scalpers were buying them the day they announced price hikes

Eonjay11h ago

For the Switch to be down 37% with the same price shows that nearly everyone is just waiting on the Switch 2.

dveio9h ago

I gotta say I didn't expect PS5 sales to be down only 14% year-on-year, thought the decline would be higher.

Interesting:

PS5 being down 382k units compared to PS4's April in 2018 is probably the result of the God of War reboot release in April 2018.

It was even the later half of April, the 20th.

Great exclusives can have a pretty strong impact on hardware sales I guess.

Scissorman9h ago

they can, but PlayStation also enjoys the benefit of being the console of choice for all AAA third-party releases as well. id imagine when GTA6 launches, you are going to see massive PS5 sales along with it.

dveio7h ago

Yeah, I think the month GTA6 will finally get released, we should see a substantial growth in hardware units being sold.

It should, no matter when, be a 1m month in units easily.

BeHunted5h ago

"PS5 being down 382k units compared to PS4's April in 2018 is probably the result of the God of War reboot release in April 2018."

Nah, it's more about the rising costs of the PlayStation subscription and the console price going up. If tariffs increase, I've got a feeling the PS5 Pro could be the first console to break the $1k barrier in the USA.

I'd like to know how it supposedly took 8 years to make this when the open free roaming mode looks so empty, unless they're purposely not showing where the content/missions are..

Really how is driving around empty land going to be exciting? I find that so boring, I get some may like it but.. if there's hardly anything to do then why bother.

repsahj3h ago

I saw a youtube video that there's platforming missions you can find throughout the map.
