People want a game to work when they buy it, not worry if the game is verified or not. It turned out not be a very good product and it shows. Once something else comes out it drops to the bottom of list.

What're you talking about? Practically every game at this point works on the thing and in true console fashion. Besides it being weak hardware for most modern games, it has absolutely no issue running games from before it released and plenty after it's release. 30 years worth of PC games in the palm of your hands and old windows games, that modern windows can't even run, run no problem with a bit of Linux magic.

"Practically every game at this point works on the thing and in true console fashion."

This is false.

"30 years worth of PC games"

Those game are extremely old and can work on anything.

anast talking about things he clearly doesn't know anything about...

Every game I've played on Steam works on the deck verified or not. Do some of the games require you to change an option here or there to work? Yes, but PC is the same. Are consoles easier to use? Yes.
But that doesn't mean PC's and Steam Decks/Handhelds aren't "a very good product"

anast117d ago

They have three levels fo verification for a reason. Prove to me they don't.

FinalFantasyFanatic117d ago

The majority of games work though, even the ones that aren't Steam Deck verified, I haven't had many that refuse to start or have significant issues during game play. The Steam Deck even plays some games that my PC refuses to even start because they're older games that aren't supported on Windows 10/11.

Rockstar117d ago

Pretending for a second that a game doesn't work on my Steam Deck, that's on me. When you buy a game on Steam you can scroll down and see if it's Steam Deck verified and if it's not verified it clearly spells out why it's not verified and 95% of the time it's because text is hard to read or some other small issue. So again, there's nothing to worry about because you know everything you need to know BEFORE you buy it.

You're complaining about a non issue.

anast117d ago

"if it's not verified"

This. The game doesn't work as intended. Pay all that money and say it still has issues.

Rockstar117d ago

Only you would know before you bought it that it had issues and you would know what they are. Armed with that information you could choose not to buy it.

I'm not sure where you're going here...

This thing gets a lot of publicity but sales seem low when compared to traditional PC and console sales which are multiple million sellers. Last counts had it selling worse than the Wii-U but then it's additive for Steam so they also don't need it to be a high-volume product.

Neonridr118d ago

none of these handheld PCs are going to sell in any large volumes. Steam Deck will still end up going on to sell the best when compared to the ROG Ally, Ayaneo's, etc.

Handheld PCs are pretty expensive, maybe people are choosing Laptops for the added value of productivity? Technically, you could do that on a handheld PC, but a Laptop is less fuss if you want productivity with some light gaming on the side.

I'm pretty happy with my Steam Deck though, I don't have very many complaints.

FlintGREY117d ago

My only issue with the steamdeck is how big and ugly it is. I'd love to buy a much slimmer, better looking version if they made one

The Perfect Handheld Gaming PC Doesn’t Exist

Shaz from Pixel Swish: "From the Asus ROG Ally X to the Lenovo Legion GO to the Steam Deck, we’ve gotten a lot of PC handhelds over the past few years. However, for as impressive and exciting as these PC handhelds are, they all fall shy in one way or another from my dream device."

Valve Makes Up for Steam Deck Repair Delay by Gifting Free Game

Valve gave a user Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for free as compensation for the long wait during their Steam Deck repair.

I had a similar experience when I initially pre-ordered my Deck. There was an issue during shipping and they offered me a customer service perk for the hassle and let me pick any game on Steam. It was super nice of them. I got a copy of Rime.
