Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director leaving BioWare

Corinne Busche, who served as game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard since February 2022, is departing BioWare.

Whispers of her exit began circulating online last night, and were first confirmed by journalist Jeff Grubb. Eurogamer can also confirm Busche will depart BioWare in the coming weeks.

Eurogamer understands BioWare itself is otherwise unaffected by any other changes, contrary to rumour.

Why tho?

Eurogamer gave Veilguard a low 10/10

Dude deserves a promotion

RaidenBlack98d ago

She completed the project, shipped it as a product and then got a better offer from where she'll be moving to now.
A norm in software industry. Why do people always have to spin it the negative way?

LordoftheCritics98d ago

Usually the way it works is that the product turns out amazing, the individual is valued and the current company makes the effort/offer to retain that individual.

Here?

Well we have a year long story starting from the first reveal trailer.

Alos8898d ago

Suddenly becoming unemployed is not "a better offer". EA saw the thing wasn't selling and decided her time at the company was up.

From200898d ago

sheeee said she was looking forward to working on the next dragon age. I don't think she wanted to leave Bioware. if you have a job as a game director at a big name studio, why would you leave? more likely she got fired.

RaidenBlack98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

People just hating here for the sake of hating ...

Armaggedon97d ago (Edited 97d ago )

Confirmation bias. People want to prove the idea that the game is “bad”. So they focus on anything to “prove” that. Victims of their own perception.

@Alos88
If that is true, that is very short sighted on EAs part. The game got rebooted st least once, and took a turn again a second time from live service to single player. There was bo way this was going to meet sales expectations, and they knew it.

What dude? Corinne is a she!
The game was awesome, which you would know if you actually played it.
Sales seems to have been goof as well, deserved.

LordoftheCritics98d ago

Unfortunately I did play it.

Unfortunately for EA the negative reviews were spot on.

MatrixxGT98d ago

I’m currently playing through it now and I don’t dislike the game but it is different.

And Corinne is most definitely a dude. No amount of makeup and dumb dumb pills will change that. I say good riddance.
Now hopefully the next mass effect will deliver.

Armaggedon97d ago (Edited 97d ago )

I think the game is great as well, but not everyone is going to like it. Its not a deep game, and there arent alot of rpg choices and permutations in it. But the lore and world building is thick, so thats my hook. To those that dont care about those things, they are going to have a hard time getting into this game unfortunately.

@LordofCritics
Its a contentious game, so they weren’t spot in. It depends on what a player is looking for and what hooks them. Some people hate rook for being a “b***”, but I like rook because hes just a paragon through and through. Subjectivity city with this game.

"Usually the way it works is that the product turns out amazing, the individual is valued and the current company makes the effort/offer to retain that individual."
And she's been valued hence she was there for 18 years ... but now she got a better offer and EA couldn't counter offer, hence she moved on.
Welcome to corporate world.
And there's also a thing called fatigue and moving on and trying something new.
Its not always the case of developers/designers being retained for quarter of a century like olden days that gaming articles love to write about. Many major devs have hopped around. Carmack, Romero, Warren Spector, Hideki Kamiya etc ... Rules not set in stone, bub, like you wrote above. Real world's pretty dynamic.
You, here?

RaidenBlack98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

@Alos88 @From2008
She didn't "suddenly become unemployed"
She got another offer. It's in the article above. Read the article. (and if she lied, it's not that hard to track such veteran game developer's career path and she knows that)
Most prominent ex-Bioware devs have left anyway and have gone on to form Archetype Entertainment, where they are currenlty making ME trilogy's spiritual successor, Exodus, which I am very much looking forward to.
Dont know why people are suddenly caring so much about EA's Bioware now. Few years back most comment about 'em here read that they lost faith in the EA's Bioware.

LordoftheCritics97d ago

I guess if we are going to discuss the real world.
Let me sort this out real quick.

''but now she got a better offer and EA couldn't counter offer, hence she moved on.''

More like EA 'wouldn't offer' thus revealing the real value of the person.

Also this was the first Dragon Age game for this individual.

Try again.
Maybe you might succeed in changing reality.

Armaggedon97d ago

@RaidenBlack

They “care” because they have a compulsive need to prove to others that Veilguard is a “bad” game. Funny thing is, if they actually believed that, they wouldnt need to be here pointing it out. In the words of solas: “No real god need prove himself.”

This means they will likely be more open-ended decisions; speed runners may be in for a treat.

Christopher6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I'll believe it when I see it. I also don't feel Bethesda games are stat intensive as it is, though. It seems pretty basic.

jznrpg3h ago

Bleh I want more stats not less. So lame going for casuals

isarai2h ago

Aren't RPGs SUPPOSED to be stat heavy? So are they leaning even more away from being an RPG? Ugh ☹️

If this guy was floored, the bar has been set comically low. The thing barely works.
