Is PS3 emulation on PS5 finally happening? No, but the team behind Sony's backward compatibility releases is looking towards it.

It will be funny when like 5 people actually play these games.

PhoenixRising37111d ago

MGS4 will be the big request, but I'm blown away they didn't jump on a remaster for it.

hombreacabado111d ago

the next mgs collection by konami is allegedly going to have a remaster version of it along with metal gear rising or at the very least peacewalker.

zaanan110d ago

Resistance FOM with trophies, lets GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

mandf111d ago

I stream comet crash and pixeljunk monsters almost everyday

anast111d ago

Good for streamers, I suppose. People watching doesn't imply people playing.

StarcrossedBits111d ago

Anast, you know you can stream games to play right? He's not talking about watching youtube vids of those games. :eyeroll:

anast111d ago (Edited 111d ago )

@starcrossbits

You do know there are more people that game than streamers right?

The eye roll must me something you need to admit.

Knushwood Butt111d ago

I played the entire Resistance 3 campaign via streaming a few weeks ago. Was a pretty good experience.
I would do the same for 1 and 2 but for some reason they are not available to stream in Japan. Why??

zaanan110d ago

@Knushwood, 1&2 not avail in states either.

anast110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

@Knush

Yes, you did, but we can hardly apply that to the whole.

Thank you for using "via", it makes it less ambiguous.

My RPCS3 emulator gets plenty of burn. Esp now that netplay is mostly fully functional.

MASTER_RAIDEN111d ago

People typically dont play things locked to ps3 because they dont want to deal with the clutter of multiple devices, and thats IF they’re lucky enough to have a working ps3 to begin with. To have all your games available on ps5 would be a gigantic plus. Think about all the people who still play ps4 games without even realizing it on their ps5s. I’m sure backwards compatibility with 360 games is relatively popular on Xbox now.

Speaking from personal experience, I can genuinely say that I spent more time last year playing my ps3 than I did ps5. There’s just a magic in those games that made them so worthwhile to go back and platinum.

anast110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

I see some people playing it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the game hours on these games are well below current games and then forgotten. It will go like this: first, the content creators will farm this stuff for content. Next, there will be a bump in people playing these old games. Then the initial excitement will die down and only the people that truly love playing old games will be left.

Sony will at least be able to add more value to their premium tier.

MetroidFREAK21111d ago

I'd gladly love to play my PS3 games on PS5

jeromeface110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

bro, your downvotes are on FIRE 10:1... great ratio.

anast110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

It's my new personal record. I could never break the mid thirties, but I finally got one. Thanks for keeping track. I wouldn't have been able to do this without my fans. I would also like to thank God, without him I wouldn't have been able to accomplish all that I have.

Greed is the only reason this isn't already a thing.

rippermcrip111d ago

How exactly is it greed for them to not do this? If they made this work and then sold all PS3 games on the store, they'd make money.

LoveSpuds111d ago

So you are just going to ignore what is commonly accepted as fact, that the architecture of PS3 makes reliable back compatibility extremely difficult?

spoonard110d ago

Extremely difficult for who exactly? A lone unsupported YouTuber did it with non-standard hardware. A team of supported developers from a 3rd part Sony developer has it working now, and a team of Sony engineers could likely have it up and running in no time flat. I don't know why people keep using the phrasing "extremely difficult". It was at one time, but hardware and software advances combined with experienced developers means it's just a matter of Sony OK'ing it and it would be a thing by next week.

jarek98110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

It was very difficult on PS4, I'm quite sure that PS5 has enough power to handle it already. If not for all games, then at least for majority of them.

LoveSpuds110d ago

It has little to do with power and everything to do with complex architecture. It is also one thing for a YouTuber to release a few vids of select games running, it is completely another for a company to release a commercial product which must be completely reliable.

DivineHand125110d ago

"It has little to do with power and everything to do with complex architecture. It is also one thing for a YouTuber to release a few vids of select games running, it is completely another for a company to release a commercial product which must be completely reliable."

This is an interesting spin, but Sony has already proven that this reason is not true. If this were the case, then the PS2 emulation on PS5 wouldn't have had so many issues at launch and the full or the majority of the PS1/2 library would be available for you to play on the PS5.

They don't need to make it so all PS3 games are playable on the PS5, but it would go a long way for them to make the PS3 exclusive titles playable natively with increased resolutions and framerates natively on PS5 shortly after launch when we didn't have much to play.

phatak111d ago

honestly every console should have full backwards compatibility, im a full time pc gamer now but if sony brings full compatibility it would be a huge selling point and I would use the ps5 much more often, just the abilitity to play random ps1,ps2,ps3 games would be huge, most exclusives are on PC anyways now so this would be an ever greater selling compared to exclusives, ps3 fat was such a good console with full compatibility of ps1 and ps2 games, hence the high launch price, so since the ps5 pro already is priced so high they could even do atleast a pro model that has backwards compatibility with previous consoles.

gold_drake111d ago

yea i think sony went the wrong way with the ps3, it recovered throughout its cycle but damn.

such a shame. even with the 60 vs 30? gig differences.
i was lucky enough to had a backwards compatible one bk in the day

FinalFantasyFanatic111d ago

I wish I had grabbed the fat PS3, I still have a decent collection of PS1/PS2 games, my PS1 is dead, and one of my PS2s are dead, hopefully the other PS2 doesn't breakdown, otherwise I might have to learn how to fix PS2s.

Knushwood Butt111d ago

If Switch had backwards compatibility it would lose half of its library!

Demetrius111d ago

Imagine how good all 3 infamous games would look if they got proper remaster treatment for ps5

Playstation owners buy games.

Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.

InUrFoxHole1h ago

Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.

Bathyj40m ago

Not really. It's directly contributed to having the healthiest console and ecosystem. Not really debatable.

The alternative is a console platform holder whose least important customers are the ones who own their console. That's why it's Microsoft games studios now not Xbox in all but name.

Microsoft needs PlayStation, PC and Nintendo players now more than they need Xbox players. They're a dying breed.

ShadowLeap32m ago

Dying breed? that's an understatement, They should add XBox fans on the endangered species list along with white horn rhinos at this point LOL.

Funny how the console with 'no games' outsells its key competitor by nearly 1 million units.

ShadowLeap3h ago

Its because the console selling 1m units has all the games, Including all its key competitor games LOL

OT: even 8 year old handheld switch still outselling xbox OUCH!
