Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament Review - Gamer Social Club

Somewhere in this hastily made Xuan Yuan release there's probably a good story. It's hard to find amidst flaws and unexciting game play.

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't take this opportunity to fix the localization. That alone would elevate the game because it actually has a really good story with great characters. However, that heavily depends on the player's understanding of the lore and the franchise, as this is a spinoff.

Review: Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament (Sony PlayStation 5) - Digitally Downloaded

Matt Sainsbury: "Basically, Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament, is an older game and suffers from a poor localisation, but there’s a heart and soul in it that is so earnest and honest that it’s very easy to forgive the game its transgressions. Whether it’s the mixing of fantasy, spiritual philosophy and some of the most ancient recorded history, or the engaging combat system and stunning art direction it’s easy to get lost in this adventure, and full credit to EastAsiaSoft for giving us a second chance to play it."

Hey, that's cool, I played Xuan Yuan Sword 7 last year.

I did too. It was decent and enjoyed it enough to finish the game. A bit of jank but hopefully they improve them over time.

Any good? Whats it about without giving anything away?

Gameplay-wise it's pretty much a active 'turn-based' RPG (you control all the characters at the same time and there are cooldowns for the abilities instead of defined turn) with some small monster tamming features. Story-wise it's a wuxia tale with 4 mains characters, fairly interesting plot, doesn't hold the punches to your gut. But better enjoyed if you know a bit of chinese mythology. Visually it's a PS3-era game with a really good soundtrack.

It's a solid 7/10 game. Assuming that this doesn't carry the PC international version bugs and have a improved translation. With the most impressive aspect being the soundtrack, some songs have been part of my playlist for literal years at this point.

Wow dude thank you!

If people could write reviews like you did, I would pay for it.
