The Witcher 4 can run on current-gen consoles, including Xbox Series S

Eurogamer writes: "Speaking with CDPR in a new interview this week, Eurogamer asked whether the studio could reassure console owners that they could actually run it - and whether it could run on, say, an Xbox Series S, which as things stand is still required for any game releasing on the Xbox Series X. The developers were a little coy in response."

Cyberpunk 2077 ran on a base PS4, but we all saw how that went. Here's hoping this is actually optimized.

SimpleDad192d ago (Edited 192d ago )

It will run really well guys...
than Sony will remove it from the store.

SimpleDad192d ago

Yayayaya surprisingly well... I forgot

mkis007192d ago (Edited 192d ago )

Probably why no pro upgrade for cyberpunk. Cdpr still salty. At their own mistakes.

S2Killinit192d ago (Edited 192d ago )

The series S will be where the struggle is real.

Lionsguard192d ago

Sure they can run it, it'll probably look or run like crap though. The "Definitive versions" will be next gen (PS6, Xbox Two Series Y)

Puty192d ago

It will run surprisingly well.

TheNamelessOne192d ago

I mean, people were saying that STALKER 2 was going to look and run terribly on the Series S. Similar situation here - Open world, large scale action, Unreal Engine 5, and it actually looks nice and runs fine on the system. If the Series S is the bottle-neck, it really comes down to optimization. It really can handle Unreal Engine 5, and that's what most devs are shifting to for the foreseeable future.

I think that the Witcher 4 is a more cpu intensive game than Stalker

Cool can't wait for the ps6 release to play the fixed version of this to.

Obviously joking cyberpunk went from a disappointment to me to one of my all time favorites so I trust them but I'm still cautious about their launches

DivineHand12595d ago

I am hoping we don't have to wait too long for Cyberpunk. I never got into the Witcher.

Extermin8or3_95d ago

They have totally different studios to work on each one so in theory they are being developed independently unlike Witcher 3 - cyberpunk 2077

CantThinkOfAUsername95d ago

Overall good news if true. They actually learned from Cyberpunk 2077.

Every one of their projects is either in the concept or pre-production phase while they streamline work flow with UE5 and overcome 'hiccups' with the help of Epic Games.

Reasonable allocation of resources and developers to their different projects. The transparency is a huge plus in my book. This is promising. It's one of the few developers I'd hate to see decline like the rest of once-great AAA studios.

The only thing that stings a little is The Witcher Remake is still in the concept phase. They even took the team working on it to help development on The Witcher 4. So it's not releasing anytime soon.

UltimateOwnage94d ago

UE5 cookie cutter content. I'm not terribly excited, even though I love the original CP2077. Sad they abandoned their own engine with a unique look and feel and gave in to Tencent / Sweeney. REDengine held its own.

Nobody think Bethesda is going to even try to make a good game.

Nacho_Z169d ago

It's baffling how this company goes about their business. Releasing a teaser trailer six years ago for a game that only began production a year or so ago. Wtf are they doing over there, the length of time they are taking over new releases of beloved properties is insane.

Armaggedon169d ago

They did it because they knew people would be annoyed with starfield (which they were right)and think all hope is lost without foresight of future projects. And their games are harder to make than people give them credit for

anast169d ago

Their games are hard to make for most people sitting at home, but not for other professional talent in their field. The other companies are doing it better, in fact, even UBI is light years ahead of Bethesda and they are stuck in 2010.

KyRo169d ago

Bethesda isn't some small indie studio. The problem with Bethesda is whilst Fallout and TES were innovative for their time of release (although still dated), they've failed to move with the times whilst other studios have came along and surpassed in world building, story telling, graphics etc, which makes Bethesda look lazy.

Armaggedon169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

@anast
That is a funny take. Just being open world doesnt put you on the same level as Bethesda. Virtually every successful game has copy cats chasing the success. Bethesda, regardless of what people think of them have been very successful. But where are the copy cats? There arent any, because making their games is extremely difficult. Their games teeter the line of balance that many developers dare not cross. I would recommend instead of assuming you know that Bethesda are bad, go investigate further and really look at their games and others from an inquisitive perspective. Then you will know of what I speak.

@Kyro
Perception my friend. You listed specific things. What about marrying multiple different systems into a single game? Remember fallout 4? That game had revolutionary concepts for rpgs, but people ignore it. Even being able to take any and all clutter and repurpose it is a crazy feature, but people underestimated it. I can write an essay on this, but they only look lazy due to perception. You cant understand Bethesda using face value calculations. Investigate further…

-Foxtrot168d ago

My theory is that they announced ES6 in 2018 because people weren’t too happy with Fallout 76 being this online focused game.

Fallout 76 was rumoured during May and was then revealed on May 30th which was at least a week and a bit before E3.

Also it was reported that Fallout 76 had a really bad development history to the point where people thought it would get delayed but it didn't. Clearly upper management knew it was going to be a s*** show at launch later that same year and decided to put ES6 out there to let us know there was a more traditional game coming.

Armaggedon168d ago

@foxtrot
I think so as well. That, and they knew starfield had a high chance of not sitting well with players, and it seems they were right.

Armaggedon169d ago

The only ones pressuring bethesda are the gamers and their expectations.

anast169d ago

Maybe they should stop taking everyone's money and go do something else. They clearly aren't talented enough to keep up with people in their own field.

Armaggedon169d ago

Sounds like a perception issue. People constantly underestimate Bethesda. They are amongst the most talented in the industry mate.

andy85168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

They were* among the most talented. What have they done after skyrim that warrants that comment? All of the talent is gone years ago

Armaggedon168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

@andy85
They have done alot, funnily enough more than the player base realizes. That is what I mean by perception. It doesnt matter how skilled you are if someone has made it up in their mind that you are bad. This is a phenomenon that is quite common amongst ignorance. Its why you have spectators that will see a ufc fight, and shrug and say “big deal” they are just attacking each other, cant be that hard. Moral of the story is that people cant seem to grasp what they dont understand.

cammers1995169d ago

All Bethesda cares about is fallout 76 and elder scrolls online, both of which are garbage. Unfortunately, they have their sheep fans playing who keep paying for in game content enough to keep it worth it for Bethesda to keep them going while the rest of the fan base suffers.

Michiel1989168d ago

so in the case of ESO, you would just give everything away for free and slowly go bankrupt? It's how mmo's work lil bro. Did you even play ESO?

Putte169d ago

If Bethesda don't get this game right they are done.
