It'll probably do 3M lifetime from Japan alone eventually, here's hoping the Zenithia trilogy is up next.

I bought mine day one and cannot wait to platinum Stellar Blade to get into this gem.

andy85137d ago

Great game thoroughly enjoyed the platinum

I love all the YouTubers like Dr. Disrespect making a dozen videos on how this failed because he used Steam as a metric… just goes to show, Steam ain’t the end all be all metric for a game’s success. Hell, look at its FF16 peak and then compare that to the 3 mill in its week on a single platform.

Utterly, ridiculous, like I get hating woke sh*t, but this had changes that were made in other Dragon Quest games before it and they were so mild. Yea, it sucks, but I ain’t going to miss out on 95% of an amazing game because of it.

Gamehard136d ago

I wouldn't listen to anything Dr. Disrespect says at this point lol.

Michiel1989136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

yeah its awful that you don't have to go to twitter to see if a dev is trying to scam, but that you can actually see it on the platform itself, so disgusting that they show that immediately. I remember you were also upset with Shroud because he said Deadlock would become a massive game in his opinion.....you really should care less about their opinions.....

Steam metrics do exactly what they're meant to do. Show user reviews and how many people are playing and it's to protect the player, not the publisher and it shown to work. When Sony literally tried to sell a game and then disable it in your library cause they had no time to add psn, user reviews made sure they couldn't get away with it.

Also search dr disrespect dragon quest on youtube and not a single video, so yeah just lying through your teeth

CrimsonWing69136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

Sorry not Dr Disrespect, Dr Disaster. That one’s on me.

I’ll help you out and send you the link to the vid as an apology: https://youtu.be/-9arOAmsEa...

That’s just one of the many from him specifically, you also have a bunch of others like that orange haired girl.

Steam metrics don’t do anything but show how a game is performing on Steam and same with the reviews. Do me a favor, tell me the metrics on FF16 on Steam, I’m pretty sure you’re well aware of how much it sold on PlayStation 5. Hell, since we know how much DQ3 sold in total, what are the Steam metrics for that?

So, I can care about whatever the f*ck I want to, especially pointing out people in the public crying out about a game failing because of DEI and always showing Steam metrics as their proof, when… well, maybe it’s just not a game PC players, Steam in particular, care for OR they’re playing on another platform.

If you don’t like what I “care” about, maybe you should use your own advice and not worry about things I’m commenting on in the comment section of a story 🤷‍♂️

Again, sorry NOT Dr Disrespect, Dr Disaster… it’s a Dr something, so NO I wasn’t lying through my teeth. Just got the f*cking Dr wrong.

stop corrolating player numbers with how good a game is, with that logic COD is the best game of all time. Dragon Quest has never been that popular among western gamers, im not sure what you thought the numbers would be? And why do you care so much what one guy, or a couple of streamers say? it takes nothing away from the game unless you let it.

At least we agree that the steam metrics doesn't show how a game is performing, it's not a quarterly earnings report from a company. and what do ff16 sales on ps5 have to do with it? because it sold an x amount on there, it's now owed to be played by a certain amount of people concurrently on steam when it releases? or bought by a certain amount of people?

Yes you're allowed to care about whatever you want, but you conclude that from a streamer talking negatively about a game, that steam actually showing numbers is now bad all of a sudden. i rather have this than not having any numbers disclosed, no room for user reviews and or feedback.

gold_drake137d ago

im not surprised.
it sold ALOT in japan alone.

Square should, at this point, take notes on what their fanbase wants.
cause their "no turnbased combat" philosophy is highly flawed.

originaljohn132d ago

They should also take note on what platform their fans are buying their games.

Square Enix Announces Declining Financial Results but Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Sold Better than Expected

Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December.
Mobile did badly. HD games still lose money. FFXIV is still a solid rock, and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the real hero.

"Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the real hero."

SP, turned based JRPG. BG3 was GOTY, it's SP (at its core) turned based RPG.

CEOs: players don't want that. "Why aren't we making more money?"

gold_drake75d ago

haha yea
drahon quest is proof that fans want turn based combat

Cacabunga75d ago

DQ3 is the second best game i played this year after Stellar Blade

Zeldafan6474d ago

Got over 250 hours in Dragon Quest III remake. I'll probably put about that much more time into I and II.

GoodGuy0975d ago

Yes yes yes. Square for some reason still don't see the appeal of turn based despite many games and indies do so well. Really baffles me.

Shimsok75d ago

Persona 5 and its re-releases, Shin Megamit Tensei V, and Metaphor are all standout examples as well. I don't know what the sales for the latter 2 were, but they were critically-acclaimed. Granted, they were also all released by 1 studio, but you get what I mean. Your examples count as well.

CrimsonWing6975d ago

You want another sure fire hit? Parasite Eve and Xenogears, oh but you won’t because… well, I’m still trying to figure that out.

Gamehard75d ago

Xenogears I want more than any other game I can think of. Hell I'd buy it with bare minimum upgrades at this point. I just want the option to play it on current gen hardware.

Hypertension14075d ago

There's a good chance that it may be added to the ps1 classics catalog on PS5 one day.

Zeldafan6474d ago

I want Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy.

tay870175d ago

Parasite eve, man I want another game.

Alos8875d ago

Zenithia trilogy is a lock at this point

MeteorPanda75d ago

Revive Vagrants story, make it bloodborn'esque in setting and speech - watch money come in.

ff9 remake. dont bullshit upscale like you did ff8 - that was cruel

LikAChicken75d ago

I kinda wish they'd remake ff8 properly as well.

LiViNgLeGaCY75d ago

They're not going to because FFVIII fucking sucks.

GoodGuy0975d ago

Square I know how to do it. Bring back legend of dragoon, make turn based mainline ff again, keep DQ traditional. Easy money right there.

Alos8875d ago (Edited 75d ago )

Ahh yes, the beloved SE classic Legend of Dragoon

Gamehard75d ago

Square didn't make Legend of Dragoon lol.

Playing WuKong right now and I would put it on this years list best games. I wouldn’t trick it at the top but towards the top. It’s pretty damn good. I’d kick off World of Warcraft as I hated it when it came out, a too easy version of Everquest with cartoony style.
