LOS ANGELES (Dec. 5, 2024) – SQUARE ENIX® announced today that DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake, the RPG that IGN called “a shining example of how to remake a classic RPG,” has surpassed 2 million units in worldwide shipments and digital downloads. The game, which launched globally on Nov. 14, is currently available for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam® and Microsoft Store on Windows.
Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December.
Mobile did badly. HD games still lose money. FFXIV is still a solid rock, and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the real hero.
"Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the real hero."
SP, turned based JRPG. BG3 was GOTY, it's SP (at its core) turned based RPG.
CEOs: players don't want that. "Why aren't we making more money?"
You want another sure fire hit? Parasite Eve and Xenogears, oh but you won’t because… well, I’m still trying to figure that out.
Revive Vagrants story, make it bloodborn'esque in setting and speech - watch money come in.
ff9 remake. dont bullshit upscale like you did ff8 - that was cruel
Square I know how to do it. Bring back legend of dragoon, make turn based mainline ff again, keep DQ traditional. Easy money right there.
PS Store Staff: "We've announced the 2024 annual download rankings for PlayStation®Store! We'll be introducing four rankings in total: PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR2, and free-to-play titles. We've also included the annual rankings for the United States and Canada, so be sure to check them out as well.
The number one spot on the PS5's 2024 annual download ranking is the second of the remake project trilogy, "FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH," in which you escape the Mako city of Midgar and travel through a vast world! In second place was "Dragon Quest III: And into the Legend...", and in third place was "Dragon's Dogma 2."
The Outerhaven: As the year comes to a close, here are The Outerhaven's 2024 games of the year. We hope you find new favorites as you play through the best games of the year.
Playing WuKong right now and I would put it on this years list best games. I wouldn’t trick it at the top but towards the top. It’s pretty damn good. I’d kick off World of Warcraft as I hated it when it came out, a too easy version of Everquest with cartoony style.
It'll probably do 3M lifetime from Japan alone eventually, here's hoping the Zenithia trilogy is up next.
I bought mine day one and cannot wait to platinum Stellar Blade to get into this gem.
Great game thoroughly enjoyed the platinum
I love all the YouTubers like Dr. Disrespect making a dozen videos on how this failed because he used Steam as a metric… just goes to show, Steam ain’t the end all be all metric for a game’s success. Hell, look at its FF16 peak and then compare that to the 3 mill in its week on a single platform.
Utterly, ridiculous, like I get hating woke sh*t, but this had changes that were made in other Dragon Quest games before it and they were so mild. Yea, it sucks, but I ain’t going to miss out on 95% of an amazing game because of it.
im not surprised.
it sold ALOT in japan alone.
Square should, at this point, take notes on what their fanbase wants.
cause their "no turnbased combat" philosophy is highly flawed.
